A formal algebra is essential for applying standard database-style query optimization to XML queries. We propose a spatiotemporal XML data model and develop such an algebra based on Native XML, for manipulating spatiotemporal XML data. After studying NXD spatiotemporal database and query framework, formal representation of spatiotemporal query algebra is investigated, containing logical structure of spatiotemporal database, data type system, and querying operations. It shows that the model and algebra lay a firm foundation for managing spatiotemporal XML data.

XML engines are usually designed to solve a single class of problems: transformations of XML structures, validations of XML instances, Web publishing, and so forth. As the relevant operations or declarations are described with XML vocabularies, their respective engines have to face similar issues such as unmarshalling, and at runtime data handling. In order to address such issues, the author proposes an innovative and reliable XPath-based framework, active tags, that unifies XML technologies in a coherent system where various XML languages can cooperate. In this chapter’s approach, the authors focus on its type system that enhances the XML Data Model, specifically by allowing XPath expressions to be applied on non-XML objects, and on the ability of the engine to mix declarative languages with imperative constructs. This valuable feature is illustrated with the Active Schema Language, which allows the building of dynamic-content models.

Abstract. Starting from the object-oriented idea, this paper analyses the existing event-based models and the logical relationship between behavioral cognition and events, and discusses the continuity of behavioral cognition on the time axis from the perspective of temporal and spatial cognition. A geospatial data model based on behavioral-event is proposed. The physical structure and logical structure of the model are mainly designed, and the four-dimensional model of “time, space, attribute and event” is constructed on the axis. The organic combination of the four models can well describe the internal mechanism and rules of geographical objects. The expression of data model based on behavior-event not only elaborates the basic information of geospatial objects, but also records the changes of related events caused by the changes of geographic Entities' behavior, and expresses the relationship between spatial and temporal objects before and after the changes of behavior cognition. This paper also designs an effective method to organize spatio-temporal data, so as to realize the effective management and analysis of spatio-temporal data and meet the requirements of storage, processing and mining of large spatio-temporal data.

In order to solve the problem of storage and query for massive XML data, a method of efficient storage and parallel query for a massive volume of XML data with Hadoop is proposed. This method can store massive XML data in Hadoop and the massive XML data is divided into many XML data blocks and loaded on HDFS. The parallel query method of massive XML data is proposed, which uses parallel XPath queries based on multiple predicate selection, and the results of parallel query can satisfy the requirement of query given by the user. In this chapter, the map logic algorithm and the reduce logic algorithm based on parallel XPath queries based using MapReduce programming model are proposed, and the parallel query processing of massive XML data is realized. In addition, the method of MapReduce query optimization based on multiple predicate selection is proposed to reduce the data transfer volume of the system and improve the performance of the system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by experiment.
