Might it be meaningful to think that an urban model such as the orthogonal grid layout, which has been a feature of cities for millennia, could still constitute a valid and practicable model today in the planning of contemporary cities? The authors believe that this reflection on the grid model might respond positively to earlier propositions, and these notes aim to supply a synthetic contribution to the book in that direction. In detail, in the first part of the chapter, an attempt is made to overcome a critical judgement as widespread as it is superficial that is traditionally applied to grid plan cities. The reflection is as follows: relationships between the physical form of the urban grid model and its evolutionary processes, its capacity of adhering to places and flexibility, its experimentations for a theory of special equality. In the second part of the chapter, setting out from the performance features of the model, the real conditions of the topicality of the grid plan are observed in contemporary experimentations of city planning.

AbstractFables are stories that are played by animals, but the characteristics of these animals are human nature. Fable stories are often called moral stories because the messages in fable stories are closely related to morals. The nature of the animal is also related to the physical form and nature of the animal in its nature. This study aims to interpret the characters played by animals in the fable with the real characteristics of these animals. The interpretation of this fable uses Gadamer's hermeneutic theory which combines dialectical and historical. Based on the analysis carried out, it can be concluded that there are relationships and similarities between the animal characters in the fable and the human nature they play in the story. Wild animals portray human characters who are strong and powerful, sometimes even hurting weak animals. Small animals such as the mouse deer portray the nature and character of a clever human who sometimes can beat strong animals.

What is a photograph? What a spurious, redundant start! After all, a photograph is clearly an image, a technical image of something. What a photograph is – such a stupid question! Yet, the casual announcement of the photograph as signification relies on an a priori truth that orients our thinking, our identities, our institutions. For it is “in terms of this self-apparent image of thought that everybody knows and is presumed to know what it means to think.” Collaging Deleuze and Bergson, intuition teaches us that an image is a nexus of force in itself, or as Anne Sauvagnargues suggests, what is crucial to images is how they cut into the world. As real enfoldings of the virtual and actual, photographs are the territories of a multiplicity of sensations – a genesis, the real actual of a diagrammatic structuring of the world in registers of time and space. Roger Fenton’s The Queen’s Target made at Queen Victoria’s opening of the first Rifle Association in 1860 is an entry point to thinking deeper signalisation in photographs. While the 3-D work by Andreas Angelidakis indicates photogenetic zones of intensity, temporal dislodgment, and the event of photogenesis actualized in physical form. Keywords: photogenesis, virtual, photography and event, ontology of the image, photography and information, philosophy of photography

This paper analyses the operation of cryptocurrency system in perspective of Islamic finance. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the cryptocurrency framework whether it is meet the Islamic Finance rule. In addition, this study performed in providing the Islamic minded investor a proper information regarding investment in Bitcoin. Cryptocurrency is a digital currency in which encryption techniques that implement to regulate the generation of units of currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently of a central bank. A transaction is a transfer of Bitcoin value that is broadcast to the network and collected into blocks. A transaction typically references previous transaction outputs as new transaction inputs and dedicates all input Bitcoin values to new outputs. This cryptocurrency has no physical form and exists only in the network. Bitcoin also has no intrinsic value in that it is not redeemable for another commodity, namely gold. Then, this study evaluates the framework according to Islamic Finance rule. The bitcoin account holder is anonymous. Therefore, it is difficult to track the real account holder if any suspicious activity occurs. In addition, the value of Bitcoin is unstable because of high volatility. Bitcoin also suffers variance in perceptions of Bitcoin’s store of value and method of value. All of these three conditions contribute to uncertainty in transaction framework of Bitcoin. As a conclusion, Bitcoin transaction is classified as a transaction with high uncertainty (gharar).

The concept of beauty attached to a woman's body does not only occur in the real world but also in literary works. Beauty myths form interpretations to women in the analyzed Smara Tantra kakawin. Beauty myths intimidate women in such a systematic and organized way. As long as women think that being beautiful according to the representation of society's glasses is an absolute necessity. Kakawin Smara Tantra, which is quite famous among Balinese people, only sees from the point of view of men the beautiful construction of women. Beauty myths created in kakawin Smara Tantra have shackled women so that women no longer respect themselves and only focus on physical form. Although the true beauty of women is not only radiated from the physical but must be balanced with beauty that comes from within (inner beauty).

‘Serendipitious’ has been defined as occurring or discovered by chance in a happy or beneficial way. “A serendipitous encounter” thus generally means one or a series of unexpected but pleasant encounters. A city, which is serendipitious, is a physical form, which has configuration and features which allows such encounters to happen. This paper highlights vernacular-based principles which are needed to counter the modernisation and urbanisation trends in South East Asia, throughout studying the typological and morphological character of ‘littoral maritime’ cities which grew in the 15th century onwards across littoral or coastal straits of maritime Asia represent pre-modern vernacular-rooted forms from which contain patterns that are urban, yet naturally-balanced with the environment. As these grew as a result of maritime trade, it is highly densed yet still reflect ecological features and conditions are still intact. The paper reconstructs some of these patterns and identify four central character as a result of their urban which resonate with ‘ecological themes’: 1) accretion qualities; 2) river-gravitation; 3) fractality and 4) centricity. The paper argues that although these patterns emerge from medieval times, these maritime cities constitute a ‘gentle’ and ecologically-sound approach to development which can unite the co-existence of urbanisation and nature. In such conditions, the tropical jungle exists side by side with densed urbanisation. The paper uses the reconstruction of the former (pre-colonial) morphologies in South East Asia to demonstrate the character of these centers, which are organic and informal evolvements having certain morphologies, configurations, architectural structures and their similarities and common principles in terms of urban patterns and principles are discussed. The pursuit of the optimal balance between ‘man’ and ‘nature’ must reflect in a city which consider living beings as both animal, vegetation and man, and which are, at present, in danger of critical depletion, and eventually extinction. Cases of built language, topography, ecology, landscape forms and urban configuration patterns and parameters across the region are presented and the paper argues that the rise of sustainability in city planning favors the compact and densed formal patterns which are reflective of these centers across the coastline of the straits historically and these constitutes principles that can sustain ecology, climatic balance yet an active cultural conduit of the place.

This study evaluates the applicability of different models of coordinate transformation between local and global geodetic datums. The results indicate the grid-based method as the best solution, assuming a sufficient density of tie points. Transformation based on a limited number of tie points, which do not reflect the real state of the survey basis in a particular area, have limited possibilities to reduce nonuniform and unequally distributed distortions that are usually found in the spatial data. This inevitably leads to the degradation of accuracy of transformation results, which is unacceptable. By using the optimal resolution grid model, which includes geodetic points from the area of the cadastral municipality that is being transformed, much better results are achieved compared to the model of distortion shifts used in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With the rapid development of urban traffic, a large number of vehicles in cities not only bring convenience to people, but also bring a series of traffic problems, including traffic congestion and high traffic accident rates. Driving speed and waiting time of vehicles are two important factors of traffic problems. To simulate the real urban road traffic flow, a one-dimensional traffic flow grid model was proposed, which considered the nearest and next neighbour car at the same time, and connected the front and rear neighbour cars to optimize the traffic flow. The experiment results showed that our traffic flow grid model can simulate the real urban road traffic flow. In addition, we tried to optimize the urban traffic network model and improved the traffic speed of vehicles and reduced the waiting time.

Recently with the increase in advanced age population, the osteoporosis becomes the object of public attention in the field of orthopedics. The surface topography of the bone by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is one of the most useful means to study the bone metabolism, that is considered to make clear the mechanism of the osteoporosis. Until today many specimen preparation methods for SEM have been reported. They are roughly classified into two; the anorganic preparation and the simple preparation. The former is suitable for observing mineralization, but has the demerit that the real surface of the bone can not be observed and, moreover, the samples prepared by this method are extremely fragile especially in the case of osteoporosis. On the other hand, the latter has the merit that the real information of the bone surface can be obtained, though it is difficult to recognize the functional situation of the bone.
