Digitalization in Software Engineering and IT Business

Competition in industry of software production as well as in IT sector has special features. Understanding current trends and complex connections between software industry and world economic development gives new ideas about competition in the IT domain. One of the key trends is digital transformation. It is supported by software, but it also has a strong impact on the software development industry and provides the new opportunities in software production and IT business change management. The main idea of the paper is total automation and a focus on measurable processes that give a continual flow of digital data that should be used on different levels of a company's management, business development, production processes, and even client's perception of the software product. Management of those core activities, based on such digital data flows, is becoming sophisticated and more flexible, based on relevant and estimated indicators. In this article, there is a multifactor analysis of digitalization in software engineering and IT business management with a focus on change management. The main results of research are demonstrating how the influence of digitalization could be used in competition.

Internal migration constitutes a major source of steady flow of population in India, and reports published by the World Economic Forum (WEF),1 2017 state that interstate migration in the country has doubled during 2001–2011, compared to the previous decade.2 In developing countries, such migration is often considered to be an effective way for income diversification for the economically marginalised sections of the society, even though its effect on ‘human development’ is oft debated. This article would engage with this debate and bring out how migration from the Indian part of the Sundarbans to other parts of the country is not only changing the demography of the region but is also having a strong impact on the local perception and attachment towards the deltaic landscape. By bringing in ethnographic details from a village in the Indian Sundarbans, which was predominately inhabited by the fishing community earlier, this article would bring out how traditional occupations like fishing are slowly losing their popularity in the face of the lure of out-migration, as the very identity of the ‘indigenous’ Sundarban fisher folks—who were once rightfully considered to be the true conservator of the forests—is changing. From there, this article would engage with the broader debate of rethinking whether migration can be considered as a positive indicator of development in such ecologically fragile areas like the Sundarban deltas, which used to indeed have a distinct economic, social and cultural life of its own.

The author presents his own original conception of the 2011 Arab upheavals. First, he tries to find parallels between the Arab Spring and the 19th century European Spring of Peoples. Second, he dwells on the idea of three types of transition in the Arab World: economic, demographic, and ideological. Third, he reflects on the issues of democracy and autocracy in the Arab countries emphasizing the role of youth. Fourth, he puts forward some new ideas as regards the relationship between Europe and the Arab World, offering such terms as “democratic internationalism” and “young democratic safety belt” in the Mediterranean region.

Software development is critically dependent on a number of factors. These factors include techno-logical and anthropic-oriented ones. Software production is a multiple party process; it includes customer and developer parties. Due to different expectations and goals of each side, the human factors become mission-critical. Misconceptions in the expectations of each side may lead to misbalanced production; the product that the developers produce may significantly differ from what the customers expect. This misbalanced vision of the software product may result in a software de-livery crisis. To manage this crisis, the authors recommend using software engineering methods. Software engineering is a discipline which emerged from the so-called “software crisis” in the 1960s: it combines technical and anthropic-oriented “soft” skills. To conquer the crisis, this chapter discusses general architecture patterns for software and hardware systems; it provides instances of particular industries, such as oil and gas and nuclear power production.

E-business is an innovation that modern day organisations cannot do without. It is based on technology, evolves with technological developments, digitises and automates business processes, is global and leads to improved competitiveness, efficiencies, increased market share, and business expansion. E-businesses models include business-to-business, business-to-consumer, government-to-government, government-to-business, government-to-consumer and numerous others that evolve with new developments. Technological developments applied to e-business results in new issues in the organisation, in dealing with business partners and customers, requires new laws and regulations and automated business processes. Conducting business electronically is a change from traditional ways of doing things, leading to large scale transformation of existing business. To attain business efficiencies from e-business, it is imperative that organisations effectively manage the e-business environment, and all associated changes to digitize and maintain the environment. This chapter discusses management paradigms essential for e-business change management.

Design process has its own structure which is affected by many aspects. Moreover, there are many tools that contribute in this multidimensional process. Within the framework of this chapter, the tectonics is suggested as a directive tool through the design process. Istanbul Technical University Interior Design students' second year studio, where tectonics was used as a spatial perception tool, was examined. The main title of the studio was festival space design, where festivals were discussed as a performance scene for urban interiors. The main idea of suggested method is to consider environmental aspects in different scales and project those findings to tectonics. The main purpose of this project is to create a new perspective to interior design studio approach. The subject of the project was shaped within the framework of testing that interior architecture is not independent from architectural elements contextually and phenomenologically and that environmental decisions and architectural tectonics can be used as a data to put forth the new ideas for interior design methodology.

Software Engineering (SE) is a discipline, concept, method that focus on all aspects related to software production. SE must adapt organized system and approach in building software. The objective of this article is to discuss needs elicitation in SE, so that the design can be done through utilizing appropriate tools and techniques based on the problem to be solved, restrictions and need that must be met, as well as resource availability. The method used in this article is literature review as a major source of problem analysis. In the next phase, the main topic of the article is clarified, validated, and verified by the model of the Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The respondents of FGD are lecturers of Informatics Department at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Requirements elicitation is in-dept and comprehensive process of finding information from all stakeholders in relation to the built software. The result of requirements elicitation is the explanation from every stakeholder with natural language related to the will and interest of the built software. The mechanism of finding information can be done through observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentary study, which are then tested with data validation and verification in FGD. The product of requirements elicitation is the User Requirement Document (URD) that can be used as an early artifact in software development process. Furthermore, URD is used as a reference in tracking the suitability between the function of software and the needs of stakeholder. This article formulated analysis approach of SE need, so that it is easily modified, adaptive to growing software complexity, and connected with the analysis of hardware.
