Cyber-Gardening and Biophilic Design in Future Cities

Today, in line with nature's integrated habitats and environments, the scope of biophilic architecture emerges as an essential issue for society wellbeing. When evaluating the possibilities of enhancing access to healthy food, the necessity of including every scale of living—from the smallest individual living space to collective living areas—should be discussed. In this study, cyber-gardening practices are evaluated from critical perspectives in terms of dystopia. Cyber-gardening, systems of self-organization, and self-sufficiency concepts are crucial to envisaging a sustainable city, food, and agriculture ecosystem. Biology, architecture, and urban design-oriented approaches have emerged in the works of design groups such as EcoLogic Studio. Emerging as a kind of bio-architectural hybrid, these new physical and digital interactive garden prototypes create augmented biospheres. In these new urban-food-agriculture scenarios composed of designed virtual interfaces, visitors are transformed into urban cyber-gardeners.

As a research area, interior design took shape in the 20s of the last century, despite the fact that the practice of decorating living spaces dates back many hundreds of years. However, the "self-sufficiency" of design and its connection with architecture to this day is the subject of scientific discussions of urban specialists, historians, art historians, and anthropologists. The article discusses the leading artistic styles and trends that prevailed in architecture and design from the point of view of their mutual influence on each other. Time frame of the research: from the middle of XIX century to the first half of XX century. As a result of the research of foreign experience in the formation of interior design, the main stages of the movement development and its relationship with architecture in two formations were identified: activities directly dependent on architectural decisions, activities that determine the entire design process to a large extent: from the functional zoning of the premises to the features of the placement of utilities in the building. Entering the information era in art as a whole is characterized by the rejection of slogans that clearly delineate stylistic boundaries and determine the role of a designer in creating the living space. The determining factor influencing the integrity of the building’s appearance in a modern view is the harmony of the facade and the internal content, which was made possible thanks to the equal interaction of the architect and designer, starting from the first half of the 20th century.

Rice is the staple food for Indonesian people and Indonesia was in self-sufficiency for rice in 1984. Based on the Agricultural Ministry’s Strategic Planning for 2015 – 2019, the government targeted that the self-sufficiency in rice in 2019 by 82,078 million tons of the rice production. It is better that the production is stochastically forecasted in form of the interval of projection possibility with the certain probability level. Therefore, the objective of this research is to know the growth of rice production and to stochastically forecast it. The data used in this research is the production of rice in the period of 1961 – 2015 obtained from the Food  and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Indonesia. The research data is analyzed by econometric method. The result revealed that the rice production would be 77,487 million tons in 2019 and it was 95% confidence interval would be between 74,901 and 80,071 million tons. The growth rate of the rice production in 2018 – 2020  would be 0.6 percent per year. We could conclude that the government target of the rice production was higher than the result of stochastic forecasting.Key words: forecast, paddy, production

The paper aims to present the phenomenon of transgression of contemporary urban living space as the main manifestation of the crisis of urbanity idea through forming new spatial units defining the city in relation to extra-urban functions. Due to the rapidly progressing process of urbanization, cities are beginning to occupy every available space in large parts of the world. That is why the idea of a closed city is becoming rapidly outdated, and open forms adopted by them and connected with the rural landscape have caused the problem of defining a new concept of contemporary urban-rural space. Although often reasons for this phenomenon are seen only in the progressing suburbanization interrupting the continuity of urban structures, this problem is much more complex and related to the search for an alternative to the outdated form of the city. The paper includes an analysis of the phenomenon, one of the manifestations of which is the emergence of downtown and suburban housing estates that combine urban features with food production. Examples of implementation illustrate the analysis of transformations, which gave rise to the new idea of urban living. The designed estates are both an element disrupting the city's dense tissue, but also becoming a determinant of the next level of self-sufficiency of urban inhabitants - both structural, functional, energetic and also nutritional from potentially adverse external conditions.

FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) defines snacks as food which are presented or sold in side of road, in a public area, that has been prepared and cooked before at home or at production place. In this case, from 2001 until 2009, the data showed that Elementary students were poisoning as much 1.101 KLBfood poisoning. In 2011, there were 128 cases of KLB. In 2013, in Riau province, PJAS was out of standard for 52 samples, with 2samples, 1 formalin sample, 1 rhodamin B sample, 21 physics and chemistry samples dan27 microbiology samples. It was really a bad situation. The objective of this research is to find out some related factors to the snacks choices at Sekolah DasarNegeri29 Pekanbaru Tangkerang Selatan Bukit Raya in 2017.This is a quantitative research with analysis survey by using cross sectional design. This research was done on May 2017 with respondents are class I, II, III, IV and V of SDN 29 Pekanbaru Tangkerang Selatan Bukit Raya. The data was collected by giving questionnaire and it was analyzed by using univariate and bivariate chi-square tests, and also it was processed by computer program. The result shows that there is relationship among knowledge (P value 0,002, nilai POR= 2,561), students’ attitude (P value 0,000, nilai POR = 3,291) and teachers’ role (P value 0,003, nilai POR= 3,007) to the food choice practice.Finally, the writer suggests to teachers of SDN 29Pekanbaru and health agency to do counseling program about healthy food. In other words, students’ negative attitude about food can be decreased. Then, teachers’ role in supervising healthy food like healthy canteen should be increased that it can be applied well in SDN 29 Pekanbaru in term of food choice practice.

During the COVID-19 process, nature has been a place of escape regarding socialization and well-being. The aim of biophilic design, which supports physical and mental health in a fair and accessible way, is to evaluate the interaction with a healthy environment and to develop design proposals in this context. As a method, post-pandemic requirements, behaviors, and spatial scales are examined through a model in terms of biophilic design, and suggestions are made for the new normal by researching biophilic elements. The biophilic design provides the potential to use nature, daylight, air, and vitality as design elements to improve the quality of spaces and support the experiences of societies. Apart from including green spaces and ecosystems in the design, biophilic design can enrich the multisensory and multidimensional experiences both individually and socially by enabling users to participate in this experience. While this approach supports sound, healthy, and safe living spaces, it will also provide for cities to be sustainable and resilient.

Abstract Despite the clear benefits of maintaining a human relationship with nature, people increasingly live in urban settings. As a result of urbanization, numerous urban communities are confronting social and natural problems, which have genuinely compromised residents’ wellbeing and health. Thus, holistic planning and designing are needed to tackle these problems, integrating nature-based thinking into urban environmental development. The aim of this paper is to explore components of a sustainable city and biophilic design patterns and analyze the relationship between them. Finally, the conceptual model of a sustainable city has been proposed based on biophilic design approaches.
