The mechanical response and damage mechanism of a 3D multi-structured knitted composite under quasi-tensile loadings are investigated based on experimental results. The multi-structured knitted composite consists of two knitted fabrics with weft double-faced interlock knitted fabric as core material and biaxial warp-knitted fabric as surface layer in the above-mentioned composite system, respectively. The tensile stress against strain curve is obtained to analyze the mechanical behavior. Furthermore, the failure mechanisms of 3D multi-structured knitted composite are discussed from the experimental observations by the initiation and propagation of damaged zone in knitted composites.

Consumer points of view determine economical value of fabrics. Fabric luster plays a momentous role in attracting people's attention, especially for clothing and domestic purposes. Luster is defined by intensity of both specular and diffuse light reflection off of a surface. There are various methods for measuring surface luster. Gloss. Luster is described as the ratio of specular reflection in one angle to diffuse reflection in another angle. Two-bar warp knitted polyester fabrics such as Tricot, Locknit, Satin, reverse Locknit and Sharkskin in three different densities were provided. A mini gloss apparatus was applied to measure fabric specular reflection in the angle of sixty degrees, before and after disperse dying with different colors of white, blue and yellow. Results suggest that luster is a function of knitted fabric type, color and density. Enhancement of technical back luster resulted from longer underlap of the front bar. However, it did not change the technical face luster significantly. Density increased in all knitted fabrics and caused the luster to decrease. Dark color fabrics showed lower luster compared to light ones.

The article presents the results of measurements of pressure exerted by two model knitted products – bands with different structure (WI jersey weft-knitted fabric and WII openwork warp-knitted fabric). The tests were carried out with using the I-Scan system (in vivo and in vitro tests) and the STM 579 device (in vitro test). A comparative analysis of the in vivo and in vitro results for the I-Scan method and in vitro results for the I-Scan and STM 579 method was performed. It was found that the pressure values are lower for openwork warp-knitted fabric than for jersey weft-knitted fabric both in the case of the in vitro and in vivo tests, and the values of pressure for the same band are higher in the case of the in vitro tests.

The structure and performance of the axial warp-knitted composite were introduced, including bi-axial and multi-axial organizations. According to the unique structure of this fabric, the mechanical properties and the advantages as a composite reinforcement were compared with regular staple woven fabrics. The advantages of composites reinforced by bi-axial and multi-axial knitted fabrics were discussed and the applications of such advanced materials were briefly presented.

In recent years, as improvement of human living life, people begin to focus on themselves health. It is certain that bamboo charcoal has many properties, including water purification, deodorization, anion release and far-infrared ray radiation. This study aims to prepare PET/BC warp-knitted fabric composed of polyester yarn (PET) as warp yarn and bamboo charcoal polyamine yarn (BC) as weft yarn using Velcro Crochet Machine. Afterwards, air permeability, elastic resilience and far-infrared ray emissivity of resulting knitted fabric were discussed by changing weft yarn type. Result shows that, for knitted fabrics, weft yarn type cannot affect the elastic resilience; yet PET weft yarn makes air permeability decreasing.

AbstractSingle-layered warp knitted fabrics were produced by the 60D/36F (containing 36 filaments) polyester yarn with differential shrinkage (DS) property in this study. Due to the differential shrinkage property, the fabric becomes curly and bulkier, simulating cotton fabric in terms of its appearance and fabric handle. The performance and appearance of these DS polyester warp knitted fabrics were evaluated objectively and subjectively. The testing results demonstrated that the DS polyester warp knitted fabric had better abrasion property, worse pilling resistance due to the mechanical property of polyester yarn when compared with 100% cotton warp knitted fabric. Meanwhile, lower water vapour permeability and air resistance were found for DS polyester warp knitted fabric resulting from the dense structure of yarn shrinkage after heat-moisture treatment. Besides, the fabric handle was evaluated by Kawabata evaluation system and subject to trial under dry and wet fabric condition. DS polyester warp knitted fabrics provide better recovery under low stress mechanical pressure. The subjective evaluation result shows that the warp knitted fabrics made of DS polyester had similar handle against cotton warp knitted fabric in terms of prickle, smooth, comfort and dry feeling in both dry and wet testing conditions.

The stab-resistant fabric like scale structure has a promising application prospect for areas of stab prevention owing to its great flexibility and excellent stab-resistance performance. In this paper, a kind of novel stab-resistant fabric has been designed by coating with epoxy resin (ER) and silicon carbide (SiC) particles, which was based on the warp-knitted fabric like scale structure (WKFS). The uniformity of dispersion has been investigated with different diameter and mass fraction of SiC, and polymerization degree of polyglycols (PEG); the flexibility and quasi-static properties of different kinds of WKFS treated with different coating solution has been studied, and the coating solution was prepared by mixing SiC particles and ER at different ratios. The results showed that the dispersion uniformity of the dispersion was the best when the diameter of SiC is 1 μm, the content is 50%, and the polymerization degree of PEG is 600. The longitudinal flexibility of the stab-resistant fabric is greater than that of transverse due to the gap between the longitudinal scales, and the addition of SiC particles can increase the transverse and longitudinal flexibility of stab-resistant fabric, and the flexible properties were the greatest when SiC:ER = 50:30. In addition, the WKFS treated with SiC of 16.7% has fatigue resistance; the damage mechanism of the fabric treated with pure ER is thankful to the brittleness of the resin; the added SiC particles hinder the further crack propagation of the resin, and the failure mode is mainly in stretch.

Two guide bar warp knitted fabrics are used as technical textile applications nowadays. In this, Part III of these series of papers, models for basic two guide bar warp knitted fabrics are created and given based on Parts I and II. Modeling of warp knitted fabrics started in the 1960s with some basic geometrical models and it was continued with using Non Uniform Basis Spline (NURBS) curves and surfaces. There were discontinuities in the loop parts in early created geometrical models and the NURBS models needed some control points from some sources. In this work instead of using NURBS curves, modeling of warp knitted fabric is attempted by using known curves. During creation of the models, curvature equalities are attained as much as possible, loop connection parts are modeled by having two continuously connected parabolas for the Double Tricot fabric and the loop connection parts of the other two bar fabrics are obtained by applying a sinus square curve to the connection part of the Double Tricot fabric. The models created are versatile and they can be changed and used for special cases. Models created are drawn to scale by using the 3DS-Max Computer Graphical Program. At first glance, it is seen that the model shapes are similar to the real fabric structures, which can be observed on photographs of them.
