The combustion technology of Circulating Fluidized Bed Boilers is a Cleaning and high efficent of Coal Powder Combustion technology. Traditional control methods can hardly get ideal control effect. To Realize datas reading and writing by self_control software throgh DCS, when coal quality, loading altered, realized automatic closed-loop control of combustion process of circulating fluidized bed, to implement primary air flow, secondary air flow and air-induced automatic cordinated control and reached cleaning of coal quality and combustion high efficiency.

Investigations have been performed to show the feasibility of burning refinery residues (calcined petroleum coke and liquid residues) in a circulating fluidized bed combustor. These experiments were done in a CFBC system with a thermal capacity of 100 kW. The unit has been equipped with an additional dosing system for liquid fuels including a newly developed fuel lance. The pollutant formation characteristics are determined using axial profile measurements at 19 different ports along the combustion chamber. To optimize the combustion process and to minimize gaseous pollutants, several operating parameters of the system are varied independently. These parameters are the primary to secondary air ratio, the global air to fuel ratio, the residence time in the primary zone, the overall temperature of the combustion chamber and the Ca/S ratio. Measurements of the flue gas components O2, CxHy, CO, CO2, H2, NOx, N2O, NH3 and SO2 are performed by standard gas analysing techniques. It is important to note that the system is equipped with a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) to qualitatively and quantitatively determine selected gaseous species which are essential for the formation and consumption of N2O and other pollutants. The gas species measured by FTIR-Spectroscopy are CH4, C2H2, C2H4, C2H6, C3H6 and C3H8. Also the important precursors for the NOx-formation HCN and NH3 are examined with the FTIR-Spectrometer. The investigations demonstrate that (liquid) refinery residues can be burned successfully as a monofuel within the circulating fluidized bed combustor. The emissions of all pollutants detected are at a low level.

Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler is a complicated control object with big delay, multi-variable and strong coupling, especially the combustion in it. It is too difficult to build an exact mathematic model to describe the combustion process. And it is hard to get ideal control effect with normal controller. This paper presents the overview of advanced control techniques in thermal process control of Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler, such as decoupling control, predictive control and fuzzy control. The future of advanced control research and application is also discussed.

Analysis of cyclic combustion of the coal-water suspension Combustion technology of the coal-water suspension creates a number of new possibilities to organize the combustion process fulfilling contemporary requirements, e.g. in the environment protection. Therefore the in-depth analysis is necessary to examine the technical application of coal as a fuel in the form of suspension. The research undertakes the complex investigations of the continuous coal-water suspension as well as cyclic combustion. The cyclic nature of fuel combustion results from the movement of the loose material in the flow contour of the circulating fluidized bed (CFB): combustion chamber, cyclone and downcomer. The experimental results proved that the cyclic change of oxygen concentration around fuel, led to the vital change of both combustion mechanisms and combustion kinetics. The mathematical model of the process of fuel combustion has been presented. Its original concept is based on the allowance for cyclic changes of concentrations of oxygen around the fuel. It enables the prognosis for change of the surface and the centre temperatures as well as mass loss of the fuel during combustion in air, in the fluidized bed and during the cyclic combustion.

In a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) combustor the reacting solids are locally fed into the combustion chamber. These reactants have to be dispersed across the reactor's cross-sectional area. Since the rate of mixing is limited this leads to a mal-distribution of the reactants and to locally varying reaction conditions. In order to describe the influence of mixing a three-dimensional model of the combustion chamber is suggested. The model is divided into three sub-topics. First, the flow structure in terms of local gas and solids velocities and solids volume concentrations is described. Second, mixing of the solids and the gas phase is quantified by defining dispersion coefficients, and finally the combustion process itself, i.e. the reaction kinetics, is modelled. The model was validated against data from measurements in the large-scale combustor of Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg/Sweden. Insufficient fuel mixing generated mal-distributions of locally released volatiles, which were the basis for the uneven reactants distribution at steady-state. In the case of two-stage operation, the injected secondary air did not reach immediately the reactor's center but was slowly mixed with the main gas flow. The concentration gradients hardly vanish before the exit of the combustion chamber.

The coal as fired, with unidentified characteristics of the coal gangue, was burned on a 300MW circulating fluidized bed unit. The equipment of the coal conveying system was damaged and the boiler operation was unstable. In response to the problems, the coal quality data and storage conditions of the coal were examined and the site was spot-checked to evaluate the coal quality characteristics. At the same time, the typical representative parameters of the coal handling system and boiler operation were selected. According to the analysis of coal quality and coal storage, the coal quality fluctuates greatly and the uniformity of particle size distribution is poor. There is actually the coal gangue with hard texture and hard to grind in the coal pile. The coal gangue will have adverse effects on the fine screening machine, fine crusher and other equipment. After burned this type of coal, the fluidized quality of the boiler bed is degraded to make an impact on the safe and stable operation of the boiler. It is recommended that the coal should be screened and then burned into the furnace to ensure safe and stable operation of the boiler.

Conventional gas turbines are approaching their efficiency limits and performance gains are becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. Pressure Gain Combustion (PGC) has emerged as a very promising technology in this respect, due to the higher thermal efficiency of the respective ideal gas turbine thermodynamic cycles. Up to date, only very simplified models of open cycle gas turbines with pressure gain combustion have been considered. However, the integration of a fundamentally different combustion technology will be inherently connected with additional losses. Entropy generation in the combustion process, combustor inlet pressure loss (a central issue for pressure gain combustors), and the impact of PGC on the secondary air system (especially blade cooling) are all very important parameters that have been neglected. The current work uses the Humphrey cycle in an attempt to address all these issues in order to provide gas turbine component designers with benchmark efficiency values for individual components of gas turbines with PGC. The analysis concludes with some recommendations for the best strategy to integrate turbine expanders with PGC combustors. This is done from a purely thermodynamic point of view, again with the goal to deliver design benchmark values for a more realistic interpretation of the cycle.

In China, there are a large number of pulverized coal-fired industrial boilers, whose steam capacities are usually relatively small. These boilers can burn only high-grade coal and have low combustion efficiency. Furthermore, the combustion emissions, such as SO2 and NOx, pollute the environment severely. Therefore it is very important and urgent to adopt economically efficient and environmentally friendly technologies to retrofit these boilers. At the same time, there are many industrial wastes, such as bagasse, wood waste, rubbish, petroleum coke and so on, need burning disposal in China. Fluidized bed combustion technology is a kind of clear combustion technology, which has many advantages, such as excellence fuel flexibility, high combustion efficiency, low pollutant emission and good turndown capability etc. So, adopting fluidized bed combustion technology, retrofitting pulverized coal-fired boiler into fluidized bed boiler can realize pure burning various wastes or co-firing with coal, which should have great economic benefits and social benefits. And the application prospect of the method is also extensive. The State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion has successfully retrofitted a 25t/h pulverized coal-fired boiler into circulating fluidized bed boiler with in-bed tubes and downward exhaust cyclone. The retrofitted boiler can burn mixture of coal and bagasse and the steam capacity reaches 35t/h. This paper presents the retrofitting measures and the operation status of the boiler after retrofitting.

Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate combustion characteristics of biomass (willow, Salix viminalis) burnt in air and O2/CO2 mixtures in a circulating fluidized bed (CFB). Air and oxy-combustion characteristics of wooden biomass in CFB were supplemented by the thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses (TGA/DTA). The results of conducted CFB and TGA tests show that the composition of the oxidizing atmosphere strongly influences the combustion process of biomass fuels. Replacing N2 in the combustion environment by CO2 caused slight delay (higher ignition temperature and lower maximum mass loss rate) in the combustion of wooden biomass. The combustion process in O2/CO2 mixtures at 30% and 40% O2 is faster and shorter than that at lower O2 concentrations.

The unsteady state computational fluid dynamics model for gas-solid particle flow in industrial scale circulating fluidized bed boiler combining with combustion and desulfurization (using limestone solid sorbent) chemical reactions, both homogeneous and heterogeneous, was developed in this study. The effects of solid sorbent feeding position and solid sorbent particle size on sulfur dioxide concentration were investigated. The results showed that both the solid sorbent feeding position and solid sorbent particle size had an effect on the sulfur dioxide capture. Entering solid sorbent at the upper secondary air position gave lower sulfur dioxide concentration than the one at the lower secondary air position and fuel feed position, respectively. This can be explained by the influence of suitable temperature at the upper secondary air position for desulfurization chemical reaction. About the solid sorbent particle size, the sulfur dioxide capture was the lowest when using the largest solid sorbent particle size due to the system hydrodynamics.
