Heteroatoms-doped ultrathin carbon materials hold great promise for electrochemical energy application. Herein, we develop a salt-templating method to prepare three-dimensional Fe-N co-doped carbon (FeNPC) with ultrathin (~ 5-nm-thick) structural feature. The synthetic procedure involves the following steps: First, fabrication of nanoNaCl templates with uniform particle sizes (~500 nm) via one-pot solution synthesis. Second, fabrication of the precursor by encapsulating of NaCl nanoparticles via the in-situ polymerization of pyrrole monomers under vapor atmosphere. Last, FeNPC formation by subsequent pyrolysis and pickling. The optimized sample displays excellent performance as supercapacitors exhibiting 393.5 F g-1 at 1A g-1 in 6 M KOH. Furthermore, the symmetric supercapacitors assembled with the optimized sample show an energy density of 10.45 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 300 W kg-1 and outstanding cycling stability retaining 93% capacitance at 5A g-1 after 10000 cycles.

An ultralight conducting polyaniline/SiC/polyacrylonitrile (PANI/SiC/PAN) composite was fabricated by in situ polymerization of aniline monomer on the surface of fibers in SiC/PAN aerogel. The SiC/PAN aerogel was obtained by electrospinning, freeze-drying, and heat treatment. The ingredient, morphology, structure, and electrical properties of the aerogel before and after in situ polymerization were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and voltage-current characteristic measurement. The thermostability of PANI/SiC/PAN composite was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and electrical resistance measured at different temperatures. The density of the PANI/SiC/PAN composite was approximately 0.211 g cm−3, the porosity was 76.44%, and the conductivity was 0.013 S m−1. The pressure sensing properties were evaluated at room temperature. The electrical resistance of as-prepared sample decreased gradually with the increase of pressure. Furthermore, the pressure sensing process was reversible and the response time was short (about 1 s). This composite may have application in pressure sensor field.

In this paper, we prepared KMnF3:Yb[Formula: see text], Er[Formula: see text] nanoparticles (NPs)/polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) composites, NaYF4:Yb[Formula: see text], Tm[Formula: see text]NPs/PMMA composites and NaYF4Yb[Formula: see text], Er[Formula: see text]NPs/PMMA composites by in situ polymerization, and these NPs/PMMA composites can emit red, blue and green up-conversion fluorescence excited by 980[Formula: see text]nm, respectively. The mixed white NPs/PMMA composites were obtained by adjusting the doping ratio of the above three NPs. These NPs/PMMA composites are transparent. We tested the up-conversion fluorescence spectra of all the NPs and NPs/PMMA composites, under 980[Formula: see text]nm excitation. The up-conversion luminescence spectra of the NPs and NPs/PMMA composites are consistent, which further indicates that the in situ polymerization has not changed the chemical structure of the NPs. Then, we prepared transparent bulk polymers by curing these NPs/PMMA composites. Under 980[Formula: see text]nm laser excitation, these NPs/PMMA bulk polymers can emit red, blue, green and white up-conversion emissions, respectively. The results indicate that the NPs/PMMA composites can be applied to three-dimensional (3D) display.

Rationally designed β-sheet-forming peptides that spontaneously form three-dimensional fibrillar scaffolds in response to specific environmental triggers may potentially be used in skeletal tissue engineering, including the treatment/prevention of dental caries, via bioactive surface groups. We hypothesized that infiltration of caries lesions with monomeric low-viscosity peptide solutions would be followed by in situ polymerization triggered by conditions of pH and ionic strength, providing a biomimetic scaffold capable of hydroxyapatite nucleation, promoting repair. Our aim was to determine the effect of an anionic peptide applied to caries-like lesions in human dental enamel under simulated intra-oral conditions of pH cycling. Peptide treatment significantly increased net mineral gain by the lesions, due to both increased remineralization and inhibition of demineralization over a five-day period. The assembled peptide was also capable of inducing hydroxyapatite nucleation de novo. The results suggest that self-assembling peptides may be useful in the modulation of mineral behavior during in situ dental tissue engineering.

The B-F codoped nano-TiO2particles powders were prepared by the sol-gel method. The PS/B-F co-doped nano-TiO2composite was synthesized with in situ polymerization. The films of PS/SBS/B-F co-doped nano-TiO2composites were prepared by the hot-pressing machine, and the accelerated photodegradation of films were investigated with a 1000W xenon lamp. The surface morphology and Tg of the films in the process of degradation were detected by SEM and DSC. Results showed that the Tg of PS/SBS/B-F codoped nano-TiO2composite is the lowest of all samples. More and large holes were observed in the surface of PS/SBS/B-F codoped nano-TiO2composite film.
