TiO2 thin film was prepared on soda lime glass by hydrolysis of Ti(OC4H9)4 in alcoholic solutions by sol-gel method combined with spin-coating and calcination different temperatures. Prepared samples were characterized by XRD, FESEM, and measurement of contact angles and transmittance. XRD identification reveals that the films are composed of anatase TiO2 when the annealing temperature was set at 450~550 oC. SiO2 layer was coated on the surface of the glass firstly to barrier the diffusing of sodium ions from the substrate. Light-induced superhydrophilicity of the TiO2 thin film has been investigated. To increase the illumination light intensity will decrease the water contact angle. The superhydrophilicity of the TiO2 thin film will disappear more slowly in the dark than that in the field of ultrasound.

Performance of lead titanate, (PbTiO3) thin films have been successfully investigated on microstructural properties, I-V characteristic, dielectric properties, and ferroelectric properties. PbTiO3offers variety of application as transducer, ferroelectric random access memory, transistor, high performance capacitor, sensor, and many more due to its ferroelectric behavior. Preparation of the films are often discussed in order to improve the structural properties, like existence of grain boundaries, particle uniformity, presents of microcrack films, porosities, and many more. Yet, researchers still prepare PbTiO3thin films at high crystallization temperature, certainly above than 600 ̊C to obtain single crystal perovskite structure that would be the reason to gain high spontaneous polarization behavior. Although this will results to high dielectric constant value, the chances that leads to high leakage current is a major failure in device performance. Thus, preparation the thin films at low annealing temperature quite an essential study which is more preferable deposited on low-cost soda lime glass. The study focuses on low annealing temperature of PbTiO3thin films through sol-gel spin coating method and undergo for dielectric and I-V measurements.

Titanium dioxide thin film has been successfully synthesized deposited on ITO glass substrates by the sol–gel dip-coating method using freeze drying technique. The precursor and TiO2 film were characterized using XRD, AFM and UV-vis absorption spectra analysis technologies. The XRD result demonstrates that the TiO2 film is well crystallized and consists of anatase phase only with (101) plane. The morphology of the nanoparticles of TiO2 thin film is spherical shape with grain size of 30.1 nm in average diameter and the surface of the TiO2 film is smooth. There is a strong wide UV absorption band around 387 nm and the calculated band gap (Eg) value of the TiO2 thin film is about 3.18 eV. The water contact angles for the thin film was only about 12°. The freeze drying-assisted sol-gel technique offers a novel process route in treating hydrophilic glasses for self-cleaning building materials and would be widely application for building energy saving.

In this paper, molybdenum (Mo) thin films are deposited on soda-lime glass (SLG) substrates by direct current magnetron sputtering and heated in three different modes at different temperatures, including substrate heating, annealing treatment, and both substrate heating and annealing treatment. The effects of heating temperature and heating mode on the structures, morphology, optical and electrical properties of Mo thin films were systematically investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM) and UV-visible spectrophotometer (UV-vis spectra). It is shown that as the substrate and annealing temperature increase, the crystallinity of Mo thin films is improved, and the grain sizes become bigger. Especially in the mode of both substrate heating and annealing treatment at higher temperature, the obtained Mo thin films show higher crystallinity and conductivity. Moreover, with the increase of substrate and annealing temperature in different heating modes, both the surface compactness of Mo films and the optical reflectance increase correspondingly. Furthermore, the Mo film, prepared at the substrate heating temperature of 400 °C and annealed at 400 °C, showed excellent comprehensive performance, and the resistivity is as low as 1.36 × 10−5 Ω·cm. Using this optimized Mo thin film as an electrode, copper indium gallium selenium (CIGS) solar cells have a maximum photo-conversion efficiency of 12.8%.

The objective of this project was to develop the hydrophobic film for self-cleaning glasses. The effects of octyltriethoxysilane (OTES) additions to hydrolysis of tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) on hydrophobic and optically transparent properties were studied. The film was prepared by sol-gel method from the precursors namely, TESO, OTES, isopropanol alcohol (IPA), and deionized water (DI). The sols for coating were obtained with TEOS/OTES ratio of 50:50 to 99:1. The sols were deposited on a commercial glass and dried at 60oC for an hour. After drying, the film properties were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, x-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), atomic force microscope (AFM), optical microscopy and contact angle meter. It was found that contact angles of the hybrid films increased with the OTES addition, reaching a maximum at 10 wt.%, and the contact angle values were the same as for further addition. The light transmittance was rather stable with increasing amounts of OTES. For the optimized condition, the water contact angle of 108o and light transmittance of 91%, was obtained with TEOS/OTES ratio of 90:10.

MgO thin film was deposited on soda lime glass substrate by sol-gel process. MgO thin film with the (200) preferred orientation were prepared by heat-treated at 300~500°C for 10 min. The crystallization, microstructure and electrical properties with various parameters of MgO thin films were investigated. Consequently, it was shows that the (200) preferred orientation of MgO thin film could be obtained as the heating temperature was increased. At heating temperature of 500°C, MgO thin film was composed of columnar crystals with a size of 120 nm. The dielectric constant of the (200) preferred orientation of MgO thin film at 1 kHz without the electric field was 7.2, with a dissipation factor of 4%. When the electric field was increased, the dielectric constant approaches to 7.9 with the dissipation factor of 2.1%. The refractive index of MgO thin film depended on the film thickness. The refractive index of 250 nm thickness was 1.70.

TiO2 thin films coated on glass substrates for self-cleaning applications were prepared by sol-gel dip-coating technique. The influence of annealing temperature and air exposure time on wettability was investigated by a water contact-angle measurement. Thermal annealing at temperatures of 100, 200 and 300 °C in air were conducted to the films. Surface morphology of the films was observed by FE-SEM. Elemental distribution and optical properties were examined by EDX mapping and UV-Vis transmission spectroscopy, respectively. Atomic bonding was confirmed by FTIR. The contact angle reached a maximum when the films were annealed at 200 °C. The contact angles of the as-synthesized films were 61.4±2.7°. During storage in air for 20 days, the contact angles increased to 143.1±2.1°. The films were further reannealed with 100 °C for 20 min, the contact angles were enhanced to 153.1±1.3°. The association of contact angle among the surface morphology, elemental distribution and atomic bonding of the films will be discussed.

Modification has been made to TiO2 thin film to improve the wettability and the absorption of light. The sol-gel spin coating method was successfully used to synthesize GO/TiO2 thin films using a titanium (IV) isopropoxide (TTIP) as a precursor. Different amounts of polyethylene glycol (PEG) (20 to 100 mg) were added into the parent sol solution to improve the optical properties and wettability of the GO/TiO2 thin film. The effect of different amounts of PEG was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) for the phase composition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for microstructure observation, atomic force microscopy (AFM) for the surface topography, ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry (UV-VIS) for the optical properties and wettability of the thin films by measuring the water contact angle. The XRD analysis showed the amorphous phase. The SEM and AFM images revealed that the particles were less agglomerated and surface roughness increases from 1.21 × 102 to 2.63 × 102 nm when the amount of PEG increased. The wettability analysis results show that the water contact angle of the thin film decreased to 27.52° with the increase of PEG to 80 mg which indicated that the thin film has hydrophilic properties. The optical properties also improved significantly, where the light absorbance wavelength became wider and the band gap was reduced from 3.31 to 2.82 eV with the presence of PEG.

Enhancing the response to visible light and inhibiting recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes is a key point for strongly improved self-cleaning performances of TiO2 self-cleaning films. In this work, TiO2 thin film doping with three different ions (Fe3+, Al3+, Ce3+) on glass substrate respectively by sol–gel method to explore the effect of ions on self-cleaning performance of TiO2 thin films. All the prepared samples are characterized by XRD, SEM, UV-Vis and water contact angle tester. Moreover, the self-cleaning mechanism of doping TiO2 thin film is discussed. The water contact angle of TiO2 thin film doping with 9% Fe (molar ratio), 5% Ce and 5% Al are reach at 0°, respectively. In comparison with the water contact angle of pure TiO2 thin film (2.5°), TiO2 thin film doping with metal ions exhibit better self-cleaning property.

Background: Improper storage and raw materials make peanut oil susceptible to Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). The semiconductor TiO2 photocatalysis technology is an effective technology which is widely used in sewage treatment, environmental protection and so on. Moreover, the photocatalytic efficiency can be improved by doping I. Method: The experiment is divided into two parts. In the first part, supported TiO2 thin film (STF) was prepared on the quartz glass tube (QGT) by the sol-gel and calcination method and the supported iodine doped supported TiO2 thin film (I-STF) was synthesized using potassium iodate solution. In the second part, the photocatalytic degradation of AFB1 was performed in a self-made photocatalytic reactor. The AFB1 was detected by ELISA kit. Results: The photocatalytic degradation of AFB1 has been proven to follow pseudo first-order reaction kinetics well (R2 > 0.95). The maximum degradation rate of 81.96%, which was reached at the optimum iodine concentration of 0.1mol/L, was 11.38% higher than that with undoped STF. The doping of iodine reduces the band-gap of TiO2, thereby increasing the photocatalytic response range. The proportion of Ti4+ in I-STF has decreased, which means that Ti4+ are replaced by I. The I-STF prepared at iodine concentration of 0.1mol/L has good photocatalytic properties.
