The gade clean and gold program applies the triple bottom line principle by prioritizing balance and harmony in the economic, environmental, and social aspects, namely “separating waste and saving gold”. Through the gade clean and gold program, PT. Pegadaian seeks to carry out sustainable community development activities to reduce poverty and social injustice, improve environmental conditions, and assist the government in waste management. The gade clean and gold corporate social responsibility (CSR) program seek to build public awareness to save the environment from pollution, especially waste, and the global save the earth program. The purpose of this study is to describe how CSR as a social program can increase the financial inclusion of gold savings and realize a sustainable green economy. This study uses the paradigm used is constructivism and a mixed-method approach. The results of this study indicate that gade clean and gold can realize a sustainable green economy. On the pillar of commitment to the environment, this activity has helped reduce visible environmental problems, namely the waste problem. The social pillar shows that this program can mobilize the community to increase their social capacity. On the economic pillar, this program can increase financial inclusion, especially in gold savings-investment products.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse the 2016 elections for Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) and to compare them with those that took place in 2012. It seeks to evaluate the background of the candidates who stood for office in 2016, the policies that they put forward, the results of the contests and the implications of the 2016 experience for future PCC elections. Design/methodology/approach This paper is based around several key themes – the profile of candidates who stood for election, preparations conducted prior to the contests taking place, the election campaign and issues raised during the contests, the results and the profile of elected candidates. The paper is based upon documentary research, making particular use of primary source material. Findings The research establishes that affiliation to a political party became the main route for successful candidates in 2016 and that local issues related to low-level criminality will dominate the future policing agenda. It establishes that although turnout was higher than in 2012, it remains low and that further consideration needs to be devoted to initiatives to address this for future PCC election contests. Research limitations/implications The research focusses on the 2016 elections and identifies a number of key issues that emerged during the campaign affecting the conduct of the contests which have a bearing on future PCC elections. It treats these elections as a bespoke topic and does not seek to place them within the broader context of the development of the office of PCC. Practical implications The research suggests that in order to boost voter participation in future PCC election contests, PCCs need to consider further means to advertise the importance of the role they perform and that the government should play a larger financial role in funding publicity for these elections and consider changing the method of election. Social implications The rationale for introducing PCCs was to empower the public in each police force area. However, issues that include the enhanced importance of political affiliation as a criteria for election in 2016 and the social unrepresentative nature of those who stood for election and those who secured election to this office in these contests coupled with shortcomings related to public awareness of both the role of PCCs and the timing of election contests threaten to undermine this objective. Originality/value The extensive use of primary source material ensures that the subject matter is original and its interpretation is informed by an academic perspective.

AbstractThis article examines Frank Tannenbaum's engagement with Mexico in the crucial years following the Revolution of 1910–1920 and his first visit to the country in 1922. Invited—and feted—by the government and its powerful labor allies, Tannenbaum soon expanded his initial interest in organized labor and produced a stream of work dealing with trade unions, peasants, Indians, politics, and education—work that described and often justified the social program of the Revolution, and that, rather surprisingly, continued long after the Revolution had lost its radical credentials in the 1940s. Tannenbaum's vision of Mexico was culturalist, even essentialist; more Veblenian than Marxist; at times downright folkloric. But he also captured important aspects of the process he witnessed: local and regional variations, the unquantifiable socio-psychological consequences of revolution, and the prevailing concern for order and stability. In sum, Tannenbaum helped establish the orthodox—agrarian, patriotic, and populist—vision of the Revolution for which he has been roundly, if sometimes excessively, criticized by recent “revisionist” historians; yet his culturalist approach, with its lapses into essentialism, oddly prefigures the “new cultural history” that many of these same historians espouse.

This paper makes an attempt to estimate the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of a social enterprise in Singapore. Following the literature, we measure CSR based on a set of standard questions to gauge how the public values CSR according to these standard questions. The social enterprise being studied is NTUC Fairprice. NTUC is Singapore's labor movement which is a macro-focused union that works well with the government to achieve growth with equity ([Yao, S and SB Chew (2014). A mathematical model of a macro-focused labour union. Singapore Economic Review, 59(4), 1–13] for the theory of the macro-focused union). In this study, we also measure the CSR of Giant, another supermarket which is a commercial firm. A comparative analysis of the estimate of the CSR of these two firms is then made. The main finding is that, based on a field survey, Singaporeans value the CSR of NTUC Fairprice more highly than that of Giant. Our regression analysis reveals that the CSR valuation of NTUC Fairprice is basically determined by how people perceive NTUC Fairprice in terms of their sentiments. On the other hand, the only variable that is statistically significant in explaining changes in the CSR valuation of Giant is Malay respondents. The study also finds that, based on the second field survey, almost 85% of respondents chose to become members of NTUC because of non-collective bargaining benefits and only 10% joined the union because of sentiment. The main conclusion is that it pays for an organization to be known as a social enterprise. As NTUC Fairprice is a social enterprise of the labor movement in Singapore, union members are always supportive of the social effort of its cooperatives, of which NTUC Fairprice is one. An important incentive for workers to become union members is the provision of non-collective bargaining benefits provided by the labor movement.

This is the first study to investigate the psychosocial impact of demonetization of 2016 in India in two opposing strata of women in the context of their social backgrounds. It provides valuable insights into the social behavior of women before, during, and after demonetization. It attempts to analyze the reasons behind the observed social behavior as well. This study demonstrates that irrespective of the social strata, difficulties encountered by women in the aftermath of demonetization were similar in the community surveyed but responses appeared to be dictated by social background and awareness. In addition, this study underscores a need for greater awareness creation with respect to various social schemes launched by the government among the women, particularly those working in unorganized sector for their greater financial inclusion.

Hotel sustainability has become a focal point for companies all around the world with a dual focus on attracting customers to their business and capitalizing from sustainability measures and practices. Such sustainability initiatives allow for increasing economic efficiency and reducing energetic and environmental impacts. Based on the triple bottom line, social sustainability is also key to promote and implement efficient corporate social responsibility practices. This study reports on a survey carried out to address the customers perceptions regarding the influence of sustainability on their choice of hotel. This survey was conducted in Oporto city (Portugal) to domestic and foreign tourists in 2018/2019 with a valid sample size of more than 370 respondents. This research concludes that, even though customers show to be sensitive to social, environmental, and economic aspects, these issues do not exhibit a significant influence on their hotel selection based only on sustainability claims.

Due to the particularity of business operation of electric power industry enterprises, their social responsibility will have an important impact on national economic development and residents’ life. In this paper, 303 Listed Companies in the power industry from 2013 to 2018 are taken as samples to measure the degree of social responsibility of the power industry based on the contribution of the power industry enterprises to the government, employees, shareholders, creditors, suppliers and customers, and to test the correlation between the Listed Companies in the power industry and earnings management. The empirical results show that the more the power industry enterprises pay to the outside world, the lower the degree of earnings management, that is, the better the degree of social responsibility of listed companies in the power industry, the lower the degree of earnings management. Through the research results of this paper, we can think that the social responsibility behavior of power industry enterprises is “altruistic” rather than “egoistic”, which explains the importance of non-marketization of large state-owned power enterprises such as State Grid Corporation of China.
