This discourse aims to describe the strategy of Guru Zuhri and Ustaz Fathur Rozi in providing Islamic guidance to the people of Kayu Besi Village, Puding Besar District, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands, examining the contestation that the two have done to gain community legitimacy, and analyzing the extent of the contestation of the two figures. religion in Bangka Belitung. This research uses qualitative research with a field research approach. As for data collection techniques, the authors used in-depth interviews, participatory observation and documentation. The results showed that in providing Islamic guidance to the community, Guru Zuhri did not just provide religious advice. However, he also provides assistance to various problems faced by members of the guidance and village community, both personal, family, social, and especially religious issues. Meanwhile, the provision of Islamic guidance carried out by Ustaz Fathur Rozi was only limited to giving religious advice or it could be said by recitation. Guidance is given not to touch aspects of community life. In the sense that it does not solve problems for problems that develop in life, either individuals or groups of people. In addition, in providing Islamic guidance to rural communities, the two of them both contest each other to gain community legitimacy. The contestation is real. There are three forms of contestation that occur in both of them, namely: First, the contestation of wisdom. Second, power contestation. Third, ideological contestation. At the end of the contestation story, Guru Zuhri got more and more legitimacy from the community for his character. Meanwhile, Ustaz Fathur Rozi lost legitimacy from the community, so he tried again to build that legitimacy.

Ecovillages are collective projects that attempt to integrate sustainability principles into daily community life, while also striving to be demonstration projects for mainstream society. As spaces of experimentation, they can provide valuable insights into sustainability transformations. Through shared values and interpersonal connections, ecovillages possess collective identities, which provide a platform for enacting their ideals. However, many ecovillage residents question how to best enhance their role as models, resource centers, and pieces of a greater movement toward sustainability transformations, while simultaneously preserving their unique community and identity. In relation to the above, this paper addresses the questions: What can collective identity in ecovillage communities teach us about the objective and subjective dimensions of sustainability transformations? Furthermore, how can the perspective of collective identity highlight challenges for ecovillages for initiating sustainability transformations? Sustainability transformations encompass objective (behaviors) and subjective (values) dimensions; however, the interactions between these spheres deserve more scholarly attention. Using ethnographic data and in-depth interviews from three ecovillages in the United States, this paper reveals the value in collective identity for underscoring belonging and interpersonal relationships in sustainability transformations. Furthermore, the collective identity perspective exposes paradoxes and frictions between ecovillages and the societal structures and systems they are embedded within.

This article provides insight into the “brown envelope journalism” in the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville). Through in-depth interviews with journalists from four major Congolese news outlets, this research reveals how financial difficulties result in reporters justifying their violations of journalism ethics and standards. While two news outlets accept bribes to compensate for their precarious financial situation, two other news organizations pretend that they oppose envelope journalism although this research shows that their reporters also secretly accept bribes.

Abstract The main objective of this article is to elaborate on the narratives of women who were in leading positions in the ’68 student movement in Turkey and to grasp their experiences and strategies of bargaining with patriarchy. The analysis is based on six selected in-depth interviews I conducted in 2004 with prominent women figures of the movement. By using the theoretical framework offered by the works of Deniz Kandiyoti and Ayşe Durakbaşa, I make a comparison between the women of ’68 and the previous generation, namely the “daughters of the Republic”, in terms of their values, norms and relational patterns. Furthermore, I exhibit the continuities and discontinuities in strategies of bargaining with patriarchy between these two generations of women. Finally, I evaluate the change they triggered in the construction of womanhood and their impact on the next generations of women.

This paper aims to elaborate the dynamics of Islamic law assimilation with local culture. With the hope that in the future it will form a basic perspective in shaping the philanthropy of contemporary Islamic law based on the reality of Indonesian society. The basic questions which is going to be answered through this paper are, first, the extent of the adaptability of Islamic law in the midst of multicultural society conditions in Indonesia. Second, what are juridical, normative and sociological arguments in placing zakat as a support for the integrity of the Unitary State Republic of Indonesia. Third, How is the Formulation of the Concept of Zakat within the frame of Unitary State Republic of Indonesia? The conclusion from this study shows that, first, the characteristics of Islamic law indicate the ability of adaptability to the culture of the society in which it is accepted. Even in this case Islam has provided important principles regarding rational development in efforts to adapt to its new environment. Second, placing zakat as a support for the integrity of the Unitary State Republic of Indonesia is worth to be formulated. This is a logical consequence of the efforts of the Islamic ummah to always place al-Qur'an and al-Sunnah as limited texts. One of the most fundamental results of Indonesian social culture is the realization of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. Making the formulation of zakat in the frame of the Unitary State Republic of Indonesia is a clear proof that Islamic law contains universal values that are valid in any time and any place. Third, the methodological formulation of zakat in the frame of Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is in a dynamic and accommodating ijtihad towards change. This methodological framework is based on al-Mashlahah, ‘Urf, Sad Dzaria'ah and dialectics between Gama and the State.

THE EXISTENCE OF SPECIAL REGIONAL REGULATIONS AND QANUN IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COMMUNITY LIFE  Special Regional Regulations and Qanun are statutory regulations similar to Regional Regulations, so the position of Special Regional Regulations and Qanun is at the same level as Regional Regulations. Unlike the case with Qanun, Special Regional Regulations only exist at the provincial level and their position is at the same level as the Provincial Regulations. This research is a normative legal research. Law Number 10 of 2004 states that the types and hierarchies of statutory regulations are as follows: the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, Laws/Government Regulations in Lieu of Laws, Government Regulations, Presidential Regulations and Regional Regulations. The Elucidation of Article 7 confirms that included in the types of provincial regulations are Qanun that apply in the Province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam and Special Regional Regulations and Provincial Regulations that apply in Papua Province.
