  El presente estudio transversal pretende determinar y establecer la asociación entre las variables de estado nutricional y fuerza en el segmento inferior entre estudiantes Chilenos correspondientes a la región de la Araucanía, pertenecientes a un sector urbano en contraste con estudiantes de un sector rural. La muestra fue de 120 escolares, divididos en 60 niños y 60 niñas cuyas edades fluctuaron entre los 10 y 11 años . Se realizó medición del IMC (Kg/H^2) para luego clasificar su estado nutricional y también la prueba de salto vertical Test de Sargent (fuerza de tren inferior) en la población escolar. Los grupos fueron comparados con la prueba estadística Chi-cuadrado con intervalos de confianza del 95 %. Para los resultados del test de Sargent se realizó correlación de Pearson. Se encontró una alta prevalencia de niñas de ambos sectores, encasilladas en el rango de sobrepeso y obesidad. Así mismo, presentan similitud en la prueba de salto vertical (test de Sargent) en donde no existieron diferencias significativas al momento de correlacionar entre sexo y área geográfica.  Abstact. The present cross-sectional study aims to determine an establish the association between the variables of nutritional status and lower segment in Chilean students from Araucanía Region an urban sector in contrast to students from a rural sector. The sample was 120 schoolchildren, divided into 60 boys and 60 girls whose ages fluctuated between 10 and 11 years of age. BMI (Kg / H ^ 2) was measured to later classify their nutritional status and also the Sargent vertical jump test (lower body strength) in the school population. The groups were compared with the statistical T-student test for independent samples with 95% confidence intervals. Pearson's correlation was performed for the results of the Sargent test. A high prevalence of girls from both sectors was found, classified as overweight and in the obesity range. Likewise, there are more overweight children in the urban sector than in the rural sector. Presenting similarity in the vertical jump test (Sargent test) where there were no significant differences when correlating between sex and geographic area.

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of postactivation potentiation (PAP) in vertical and horizontal jump performance in pre-pubertal children. Material and method: One hundred and nineteen children (65 girls and 54 boys; 6.8 ± 0.7 years old; 124.5 ± 6.4 cm; 25.2 ± 5.1 kg) participated in this study. This was a transversal cross-sectional study which incorporated a within-subjects repeatedmeasures design, where participants completed all protocols. The experimental procedure required four total testing, separated by one week, using a counterbalanced. This study investigated jumping performance associated with weighted jumps, lowload vertical jumps, and horizontal jumps. During two sessions the participants performed vertical jumps with and without PAP, the other two sessions the same procedures were performed for horizontal jumps. The PAP protocol consisted of one set of five weighted countermovement jumps with low-load (10% of body mass) and a rest interval of four minutes prior to the jump tests. Paired t-tests were used between conditions (PAP and control) in the vertical jump and horizontal jump test. In addition, Cohen’s d effect size and 95% confidence interval was used. Results: Significant jump height was observed in the vertical jump in the PAP condition compared to the control condition (p = 0.007). Similar results were observed for the horizontal jump tests, with significant longer distance observed in the PAP condition (p = 0.036). Conclusions: Pre-pubertal children can benefit from the effects of PAP in vertical and horizontal jumping performance when preceded by low-load ballistic movements. A protocol implementing low-loads, determined by a relative percentage of body mass is effective to promote PAP for young children.

Background: There are various factors that influences the age of menarche which includes genetic, nutritional status, socioeconomic status and environmental conditions. Further it has also proved that the malnutrition has delayed the age of menarche. Thus, the present study focuses on the study of relation between the nutritional status and age of menarche among the adolescent girls in a rural and urban area in Tamil Nadu, India.Methods: It is a community based cross-sectional study done in the adolescent girls of age between 11 to 15 years studying in school in the city of Chennai, India and surrounding rural areas. A total of 602 post-menarcheal adolescent girls were included in the study. The participants who were post-menarcheal were asked to recall the year and month of menarche and was noted. To assess the nutritional status, the parameters weight, height and waist circumference were determined.Results: The association between the age of menarche and BMI was studied. The study showed that there was an association with a Pearson coefficient (r) value of - 0.252 which is statistically significant (p˂0.001). The association between the age of menarche and waist to height ratio was studied. The study showed that there was an association with a Pearson coefficient (r) value of - 0.261 which is statistically significant (p˂0.001).Conclusions: This study has confirmed that the nutritional status has association with the age of menarche and is the contribution to the reduction in the mean of age of menarche in this geographical area.

Athletes require greater energy and protein than people with normal activity to balance the body’s metabolic rate. The body mass index is a factor which directly related to the physical performance of martial-art athletes. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between energy, protein suffi ciency and body mass index with power of martial-art athletes. This research was observational analytic with cross sectional study design. Samples were consisted of 46 athletes who has won at least one martial art games. Data were collected through interview. Energy and protein adequacy level were measured by 2 × 24 hours food recall questionnaires; body weight and height measured by digital scale and microtoice; and power was measured with vertical jump test. There was a positive relationship between adequacy level of protein (p = 0.011) and athletes’s power, but negative correlation between BMI and athlethes’s power (p = 0.019). There was no relationship between the adequacy level of energy with power of martial-art athletes. It was concluded that increament of protein adequacy level could increase athlete’s power. Otherwise, escalation of body mass index could decrease the power of athletes. Therefore, it is needed to monitor nutrient intake and BMI to increase the power of martial-art athletes.

Background: A better understanding of the prevalence and causes of undifferentiated febrile illness in the concerned geographic area would help in limiting the vast diagnostic workup to nd aetiological agent and guide to an optimal treatment to avoid unwanted usage of antibiotics and antimalarials. The present study was thus conducted to study etiological, hematological, clinical prole of patients presenting with undifferentiated febrile illness. Methodology: This was a cross sectional study on adults with acute febrile illness admitted in tertiary care Hospital Bhopal for a period of 2 years on acute illinfected patient belonging to age group of 18-70 years. Detailed history regarding presenting complaints along with ndings of general and systemic examination were documented in questionnaire. Blood samples were subjected to investigations to identify underlying etiology. Results: Mean age of 200 patients presenting with undifferentiated febrile illness was 39.67±17.4 years. Acute febrile illness without localizing sign was documented in 30% cases followed by LRTI (16.5%), CKD (6.5%), pneumonia (6%) and TBM (5.5%). WBC counts were raised (>11000) in 30% patients indicative of bacterial etiology whereas it was WBC counts were reduced in 2% patients suggestive of viral etiology. Platelet counts were decreased in around 43.5% patients in present study. Malarial parasite was observed in 1 (0.5%) patient whereas Widal test was positive in 3.5% patients. Conclusions: Knowledge regarding cause and clinical prole of AFIs in particular geographical area is helpful in early diagnosis and management such cases. In present study, the febrile illness presented without localizing sign whereas malaria and enteric fever were conrmed in only few cases. However non-specic test such as CBC and RFT, LFT were helpful in identifying underlying etiology as bacterial or viral.

O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a frequência do consumo de alimentos processados e ultraprocessados e verificar a associação entre estado nutricional por adolescentes do ensino público e privado do município de Arroio do Tigre, RS. Trata-se de um estudo transversal realizado com adolescentes, com idade entre 10 e 15 anos, de uma escola pública e uma privada de Arroio do Tigre, RS. O estado nutricional foi avaliado pelo índice de massa corporal. Aplicou-se um questionário de frequência alimentar contendo alimentos processados e ultraprocessados. A amostra foi composta por 64 adolescentes com idade média de 12,03±1,15 anos, sendo 53,1% da escola pública. A maioria dos adolescentes encontravam-se eutróficos (p=0,343), e quando comparado com o consumo de alimentos processados e ultraprocessados, a maioria dos escolares eutróficos relataram maior frequência no consumo de balas e chicletes (50,0%) e barra de cereais (51,0%), de 1 a 3 vezes por semana (p=0,004; p=0,029, respectivamente). Houve também uma maior frequência de consumo de alimentos processados e ultraprocessados como pizza (73,5%; p0,001), refrigerante (58,8%; p=0,036) e biscoito recheado (58,8%; p=0,008) entre 1 a 3 vezes por semana na escola pública em comparação a escola privada. O consumo de suco de pacote (p=0,013) foi relatado não ser consumido pela maioria dos alunos da escola particular em comparação a escola pública. Os dados encontrados evidenciam um consumo expressivo de alimentos processados e ultraprocessados pelos adolescentes de ambas as escolas, destacando alimentos com alto teor de açúcar e sódio.Palavras-chave: Hábitos alimentares. Most of the adolescents were eutrophic (p=0.343), and when compared to the consumption of processed and ultraprocessed foods, most eutrophic schoolchildren reported a higher frequency of bullets and chewing gum (50.0%) and cereal bars (51.0%), 1 to 3 times per week (p=0.004, p=0.029, respectively). There was also a higher frequency of consumption of processed and ultraprocessed foods such as pizza (73.5%, p0.001), refrigerant (58.8%, p=0.036) and stuffed biscuit (58.8%, p=0.008) between 1 to 3 times a week in public school compared to private school. Consumption of packet juice (p=0.013) was reported not to be consumed by the majority of private school students compared to public school. Conclusion: The data found evidenced an expressive consumption of processed and ultraprocessed foods by the adolescents of both schools, highlighting foods with high sugar and sodium content.Keywords: Food Habits. Abstract Background Nutrition was claimed to be a factor in MS causation, course, complications, and management. Several studies were conducted to assess the nutritional status of MS patients; however, few studies were conducted to assess this problem in Egypt. Therefore, the purpose of the current study was to assess the nutritional status of a sample of MS patients. Methods The researchers conducted an exploratory cross-sectional study among 76 relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) patients attending Kasr Alainy Multiple Sclerosis Unit (KAMSU) from October 2018 to January 2019 to assess the nutritional status of a sample of MS patients. Data were collected using a structured interview questionnaire including an inquiry about the socioeconomic status, and nutritional status using anthropometric measurements, patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA), semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires (SQFFQ), and hemoglobin level measurement. Assessment of fatigue was done using the Modified Fatigue Impact Scale 5-items version. Results The mean age of the study participants was 30 ± 6 years. The disease duration ranged from 2 to 264 months. Malnutrition was prevalent among 67.1% (27.6 % overweight, 36.8% obese, and 2.6% underweight). Half of the investigated patients were anemic. According to the PG-SGA, more than half of the studied patients (53.9%) were classified as moderately or suspected malnourished. The unhealthy dietary habits such as taking only a few meals, junk food intake and skipping breakfast were observed in considerable proportions of the group. The SQFFQ revealed overconsumption of energy and fat, and less than acceptable consumption of dietary fibers by most of the studied patients. Conclusions Overweight, obesity, anemia, and unhealthy dietary habits were prevalent among the RRMS patients attending the KAMSU. Nutrition care service is extremely needed for this group of patients.

Background: To evaluate the potential factors associated with the nutritional composition of human milk of puerperal women. Methods: cross-sectional study, conducted between March 2016 and August 2017, with 107 women, selected in a Tertiary Health Care Tertiary Health Facility of the Unified Health System (SUS) in the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. Data were collected two months after delivery. The dependent variable of the study was the nutritional composition of human milk. We divided the independent variables into hierarchical levels: distal (age, schooling, parity and pregestational nutritional status), intermediate (number of prenatal visits and gestational weight gain) and proximal (alcohol consumption, smoking, diabetes mellitus and hypertension). For data analysis, we applied the multiple linear regression, centered on the hierarchical model. Only the variables associated with the nutritional composition of breast milk remained in the final model at a 5% level of significance. Results: The nutritional composition of human milk yielded by women with pregestational overweight, smokers and hypertensive had higher amounts of lipids and energy. Conversely, women with gestational weight gain below the recommended had lower amounts of these components. Conclusion: The evaluation of factors associated with the nutritional composition of human milk is extremely important to assist post-partum care practices. In this study, we observed that lipid and energy contents were associated to pregestational nutritional status, gestational weight gain, smoking and hypertension.

AbstractBackgroundAdolescent girls are vulnerable to many problems, undernutrition being the most common. This results in growth restriction resulting in stunting, wasting, underweight and last but not the least iron-deficiency anaemia. Nutritional needs are high during puberty which later leads to complications during pregnancy and its outcomes.Materials and methodsA field based cross-sectional study was carried out to assess the nutritional status of the girls and to determine the various factors responsible for undernutrition. After clearance from the Institution Ethical Committee (IEC) and permission from Child Development Programme Officer (CDPO), the study was conducted in the anganwadi centres (AWC) of urban slums in the field practice area of the Department of Community Medicine from the 1st October 2014 to the 31st October 2016. All the adolescent girls enlisted in the seven anganwadi centres were included as study subjects with their consent. A pre-designed, pre-tested and semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data on following sections. (a) socio-demographic profile and (b) nutritional status. Dietary intake was taken using the 24-h recall method. Anthropometry was measured and haemoglobin (Hb) was estimated. SPSS version 21 was used for descriptive and analytic statistics.ResultsAmong the 160 girls 98(61.3%), 69(43.1%), 53(33.1%) were underweight, stunted and wasted, respectively. Anaemia was present among 144(90%) of the girls.ConclusionStrict monitoring of weekly iron and folic acid supplementation (WIFS) as well as nutrition education are essential measures to solve the problem of undernutrition among adolescent girls.
