ABSTRACT The service quality gap between ideal nurses and actual nurses is a serious problem in hospitals. This is due to the high demands of patients, or due to the weakness of nurses' abilities, knowledge, and skills of nurses in serving patients. Therefore, hospitals have developed career paths according to their expertise, and provide better opportunities according to the abilities and potential of nurses. This study aims to correlation the career paths of nurses with patient satisfaction with nursing care quality. This research is quantitative research with analytical correlation design and a cross-sectional approach. The research instrument uses the Patient Satisfaction With Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire. The population used a proportionate stratified random sampling with a sample size of 68 patients. Bivariate data analysis using the Kendall Tau-C test. The results of the study showed that the distribution of nurses' career paths in the inpatient room was not evenly distributed. This resulted in incompatibility of clinical authorities carried out by PK I, PK II and PK III. On the other hand, the patient revealed that they did not question the important junior or senior nurses as long as the nurses were skilled, friendly and provided appropriate information to patients and families. The conclusion of this study is that there is no relationship between career paths and patient satisfaction with nurse service quality with a p-value of 0.276. It is recommended for Hospital Management, especially the Head of Nursing and ranks to pay attention  the equal distribution of nurses based on career paths. This certainly must be considered from several sides, including the characteristics of the room, the level of dependence of patients in the room, and the number of nurses available.

PurposePromoting patient satisfaction is crucial for healthcare quality improvement. However, literature on patient satisfaction with nursing care in Ghana is limited. The aim of this study was to assess patient satisfaction with perioperative nursing care in Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in Ghana.Design/methodology/approachThe study was a cross-sectional study. A sample of one hundred (n = 100) in-patients in the surgical department were interviewed. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), version 22, was used to analyze the data. The results were presented using univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses.FindingsIt was found that majority of the respondents were males (53%), employed (56%) and insured (85%). It was also found that eight in ten respondents were satisfied with the perioperative nursing care. Overall patient satisfaction with perioperative nursing care was significantly associated with information provision (p < 0.001), nurse–patient relationship (p < 0.001), fear and concern (p < 0.05) and discomfort and need (p < 0.05). At the multivariate level, overall patient satisfaction was significantly influenced by nurse–patient relationship (β = 0.430, p = 0.002).Originality/valueThere is limited literature on nursing care in surgical departments and rarely are patients' views considered in assessing quality of perioperative care, especially in Low- and Middle- Income Countries (LMICs). This study is a modest contribution to the literature on patient satisfaction with perioperative nursing care in Ghana.

Aims: To describe patient perceptions of quality and satisfaction with nursing care, nurse–patient interactions and barriers to and benefits of implementing a healthy lifestyle. Methods: A pretest–posttest cross-sectional correlational research design was used. Subjects were randomly selected between November 2001 and January 2002 from patients admitted to the National Institute of Cardiology in Budapest, Hungary. Participants completed 3 self-reported measures and a demographic survey, which assessed individual lifestyle behaviors (e.g. frequency of smoking, physical activity, stress and unhealthy dieting). Results: Satisfaction with nursing care and nurse–patient interactions influenced both perceived benefits and barriers. Patient satisfaction and perceived benefits at discharge were associated with more frequent exercising and less smoking. Among other factors, perceived benefits at discharge were predicted by attentive nurse behaviors toward patients and by patients’ ability to initiate discussion with nurses. Conclusions: Findings support effects of patient satisfaction and nurse–patient relationships on perceived benefits/barriers. Compared to barriers, perceived benefits more importantly determined health behaviors. Attentive nursing care and the patient's ability to discuss health concerns with nurses appear more influential in modifying patient perceptions. Exploring nursing interventions to maximize perceived benefits during hospitalization is suggested.
