Introduction: Upper cross syndrome (UCS) occurs when the muscle in the neck, shoulders, and chest become deformed usually as a result of poor posture. The aim of the study is to analyse the effect of McKenzie’s method of exercise to treat upper cross syndrome associated with cervicogenic headache. Materials and Methods: This experimental study was conducted in outpatient department physiotherapy A.C.S. Medical College and Hospital. Fifty subjects were selected for the study of the age group between 20 to 50 years of both male and female sex. Duration of this study was about 3 months. Each patient was trained about three session per week, 30 minutes per session. The session included McKenzie’s method of exercise to improve the shoulder and neck movements and postural corrections of the subjects. The outcome measure done using visual analogue scale (VAS) for cervicogenic headache and upper cross syndrome questionnaire (UCS). Results: The results on comparing upper cross syndrome questionnaire score and Visual Analog Scale score showed that between the pre-test (4.93) and post-test (3.43) mean values with group McKenzie’s exercise showed highly significant difference. Thus, it is appropriate that McKenzie’s method of exercise to treat upper cross syndrome associated with cervicogenic headache is effective.

Implant-supported prostheses hygiene and peri-implant tissues health are considered to be predictive factors for successful prosthetic rehabilitation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of brushing associated with oral irrigation measured as biofilm-removing capacity, maintenance of healthy oral tissues, and patient satisfaction. A randomized, crossover clinical trial was conducted with 38 patients who wore conventional maxillary complete dentures and mandibular overdentures retained by the O-ring system. The patients were instructed to use the following hygiene methods for 14 days: mechanical brushing [MB (brush and dentifrice - Control)]; and MB with oral irrigation [WP (Waterpik - Experimental)]. Biofilm-removing capacity and maintenance of healthy oral tissues were evaluated by the Modified Plaque Index (PI), Gingival Index (GI), Probing Depth (PD), and Bleeding on Probing Index (BP) recorded at baseline and after each method. In parallel, patients answered a specific questionnaire using a Visual Analogue Scale after each hygiene method. Data were analyzed by Friedman and Wilcoxon tests (α=0.05). The results showed significantly lower PI, GI, PD, and BP indices after application of the hygiene methods (P<0.001) than those observed at baseline. However, no significant difference was found between MB and WP. The satisfaction questionnaire responses to both methods showed high mean values for all questions, with no statistically significant difference found between the answers given after the use of MB and WP (P>0.05). The findings suggest that WP was effective in reducing PI, GI, PD, and BP indices and provided a high level of patient satisfaction.

Background: Post tonsillectomy pain is one of the surgery side effects that most disturbing for patient’s comfort and will cause dysphagia, low intake, dehydration, secondary infection and bleeding. Ketamine is an anesthetic drug that has strong analgesic effect and easily available in any hospital at relatively cheap price. Objective: To find out the effect of local ketamine infiltration on the post tonsillectomy pain scale. Method: An experimental study during tonsillectomy with a Post Test Control Group on 12 samples without local infiltration of ketamine and 12 samples with local infiltration of ketamine in peritonsillar pillar. The pain was assessed 2 hours and 24 hours post extubation with pain Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Result: The VAS value from patients who were given local infiltration of ketamine in peritonsillar pillar were lower (5.83 ± 0.72 at 2 hours and 2.83 ± 0.58 at 24 hours post extubation) compared to patients without ketamine infiltration (7.83 ± 0.58 at 2 hours and 3.58 ± 0.51 at 24 hours post extubation). The result showed statistically significant difference (p <0.05) at 2 hours and 24 hours post extubation. Conclusion: The VAS score of the ketamine infiltration group is lower at 2 hours and 24 hours post extubation than the group without ketamine infiltration, showing there was a noticeable effect of local ketamine infiltration on the post tonsillectomy pain scale. Keywords : post tonsillectomy pain, ketamine, local infiltration, visual analog scale ABSTRAKLatar belakang: Nyeri pascatonsilektomi adalah salah satu efek samping operasi yang sangat mengganggu kenyamanan pasien, dan dapat menyebabkan gangguan menelan, kurangnya asupan nutrisi, dehidrasi, infeksi sekunder dan perdarahan. Abstract Context Hemorrhoid is one of the most common diseases in both, men and women, affecting half of the world's population over the age of 50. Aims The aim of this study was to evaluate the analgesic effects of local ointment of glyceryl trinitrate ointment (GTN) after hemorrhoidectomy. Methods and Materials In this randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled study, the patients were grouped as the treatment, that is GTN, and placebo (P) group. After surgery, 0.2% gelatin GTN ointment (250 mg), and P ointment (n = 20 for each group) were applied topically on 1 cm on the anus using a standard ruler, three times a week in respective groups. visual analog scale was used to assess the intensity of the pain and complications of the drugs were observed at 6, 12, 18, and 24 hours. Statistical Analysis Used Data and questionnaires were analyzed statistically using SPSS17 software and results were recorded in the tabular form. Results Six hours after the application of the ointment, no significant difference was found among the groups, however, after 12, 18, and 24 hours significant reduction in pain was seen in GTN group, which was least after 18 hours. The mean values of the total pain score in the first 24 hours after surgery in the GTN group were 3.15 and 5.45 in the P group which were statistically significant. Nonetheless, headache was significantly increased in the GTN group. Conclusion Simple and safe topical GTN ointment can reduce the pain after hemorrhoidectomy, leading to the reduced need of other analgesics.

Background: Postoperative sore throat (POST) is a well-recognized complication that remains unresolved in patients undergoing endotracheal intubation for general anaesthesia. The wide variation in these figures is presumably due to different skills and techniques among anesthetists and to differences between patients in the definition of sore throat. The main aim is to study the attenuating effect of Magnesium sulphate nebulization on the incidence of post-operative sore throat. Subjects and Methods: This is a prospective randomized clinical study. A total number of 100 patients of ASA grade 1 & 2, in the age group of 18 - 60 years. The study has been carried out at Sri Venkateswara Ram Narayana Ruia Government General Hospital, Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati, over a period of 12 months. Results: There was no significant difference among the groups in terms of age, gender and weight. Whereas Magnesium sulphate significantly lessens the POST during swallowing at 4th hour as compared to Normal saline (p< 0.05) and this statement can be attributed to any population. Conclusion:  Post-operative sore throat is one of the most common undesirable anesthesia-associated problems in the patients undergoing GA with an endotracheal tube for routine surgical cases for up to 24 h. Magnesium sulphate was significantly reduces the incidence of POST compared to Normal saline , and it is safe, simple and effective in reducing postoperative sore throat.

Comfortable foods are chemically processed and made from heavily refined ingredients and artificial additives. These foods are manufactured and distributed in ways that encourage consumption. This study focused on adolescents since they have greater access to comfortable foods, are more free and lesser concerned for their health. Fewer studies have been conducted on adolescents but in present scenario they are more inclined towards unhealthy eating behaviors. Therefore, the present study after careful considerations was attempted to assess the consumption of comfortable foods by urban adolescents in different socio-economic categories. Two hundred subjects in the age group of 16 to 18 years were purposely selected in equal number in the ratio of 1:1 of boys and girls. Findings revealed that majority belonged to high socioeconomic status whereas 52% boys and 44% girls belonged to low socioeconomic status. Respondents from the entire income category mostly consumed comfortable foods because it was either liked by them or they found it good in taste. Consumption of all the comfortable foods was found to be significantly (p≤0.05, p≤0.01) higher in adolescents who had high income and greater access of these food products.  Significant difference was observed in the mean values of consumption of comfortable foods by all the adolescents in different socioeconomic categories.

The aim of this study is to estimate 95% reference limits for eight haematological constituents of blood in order to provide medically reliable evaluation of haematological laboratory results. Blood counts were performed using an automated haematology analyzer (Cell-Dyn 1500) on capillary blood samples from 1918 children (1?16 years old) residing in a region of Novi Beograd. Physiological variations corresponding to age and sex were studied as the most important factors affecting biological variation in haematological constituents of blood. Children were divided in four groups according to age: 1?3 yrs (281 boys and 241 girls), 4? 6 yrs (196 boys and 150 girls), 7?12 yrs (322 boys and 368 girls) and 13 ?16 yrs (174 boys and 186 girls). In this study all investigated parameters were not sex dependent until the age of 13. Boys between ages 13 and 16 years have higher mean values of haemoglobin (143.81 ? 13.40 g/L) and red blood count (4.81 ? 0.49 ? 1012/L), but lower MCV (86.6 ? 5.27 fL) than girls in same age group (136.81 ? 13.42 g/L, 4.57 ? 0.47 ? 1012/L and 88.0 ? 6.96 fL respectively). There was no significant difference according to sex in the oldest group for mean values of haematocrit (boys 0.42 ? 0.049 L/L and girls 4.57 ? 0.47 L/L), MCH (boys 29.9 ? 1.92 pg and girls 30.2 ? 1.96 pg), MCHC (boys 345.9 ? 18.4 g/L and girls 342.2 ? 19.7 g/L), platelet (boys 219.8 ? 49.6 ? 109/L and girls 225.3 ? 59.2 ? 109/L) and white blood count (boys 8.0 ? 2.60 ? 109/L and girls 8.01 ? 2.08 ? 109/L). Haemoglobin level, red blood count, haematocrit, MCV, MCH and MCHC increased with age. Levels of platelet count and white blood count decreased with age.
