The objective was to evaluate three sources of acid insoluble ash (AIA) (celite, kaolin, and sand), as indicators, to determine the apparent metabolizable energy of corn on a natural matter (AME) basis, dry matter digestibility coefficient (DMDC), and crude protein digestibility coefficient (CPDC) using total and partial excreta collection methods. Two hundred and ten Ross broiler chicks of 18 to 27 days of age were used. Broilers were adapted to experimental the diet for four days, and excreta were collected for 5 days. A reference diet (RD) based on corn and soybean meal was prepared to meet the nutritional requirements of the birds. A test diet was prepared with 40% replacement of RD with corn. The formulated diets were: D1, 99% Reference diet + 1% celite; D2, 59.4% RD + 39.6 % corn + 1% celite; D3, 99% Reference diet + 1% kaolin; D4, 59.4% RD + 39.6 % corn + 1% kaolin; D5, 99% Reference diet + 1% sand; D6, 59.4% RD + 39.6 % corn + 1% sand. The treatments were distributed in a completely randomized design, with six diets and five replicates of seven birds each in a 2x3 factorial arrangement. There were significant interactions for all variables investigated. It was observed that the AME and DMDC values of corn were similar in the two methods of collection, and PDC values using kaolin and celite makers were similar. However, the AME and CPDC of corn using sand with partial collection method were underestimated by 17.70 and 15.53%, respectively compared to those with the total collection method. The AME values of corn with the collection methods using celite and, the DMDC using celite and sand were significantly different. It was observed that the DMDC using celite and sand provided significantly lower values (4.67 and 5.15%), respectively, and the AME using celite was 2.86% lower than that obtained by total collection. To determine the EMA, DMDC, and CPDC in broilers, it is more efficient to use celiteTM and kaolin as markers with partial collection of excreta. Sand should not be used with partial excreta collection method, because it provides lower values of AME and CPDC compared to with total excreta collection method.

This study aims to determine the efficient use of protein and energy of Black Soldier fly larvae at different age levels on chicken. This research was conducted at Jl. RK, Desa Namo Bitang, Kecamatan Pancur Batu Kabupaten Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. Animal Husbandary Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatra Utara, Medan. The design of this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment consisted of P0, P1, P2, and P3 (larvae 14, 21, 28, and 35 days old). Observed variables were protein digestibility, nitrogen retention and apparent metabolizable energy.The results showed that the treatment had a significant effect (P<0,01) on protein digestibility, nitrogen retention and apparent metabolizable energy. Based on research result it can be concluded that maggot of Black soldier fly more efficient at the age between 24-25 days.

This paper aimed to evaluate the metabolizability, performance and economic viability of purified glycerin inclusion in balanced diets fed to chicken broilers from 8 to 21 days old. Two experiments were conducted. In the first experiment, 100 broilers (14 days old) were distributed in a completely randomized design into two treatments, with five replications of 10 broilers. Treatments consisted of a control diet and a test diet, in which purified glycerin replaced 10% of the control diet. In the second experiment, 200 broilers (8 days old) were distributed in a completely randomized design into four treatments (0, 2, 4 and 6% of purified glycerin inclusion), with five replications of 10 broilers. The weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, final weight, apparent metabolizable energy (AME), nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn), metabolizability coefficients of dry matter (DMMC), crude protein (CPMC) and gross energy (GEMC), and the cost of feed per kg of broiler produced were evaluated. The AME, AMEn, DMMC, CPMC and GEMC from the purified glycerin were 3790 and 3560 kcal/kg, and 83.72, 71.52 and 86.27%, respectively. The glycerin levels did not affect (p>0.05) any of the performance characteristics (weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion and final weight). The lowest feeding cost and the highest gross margin were obtained for broilers fed with 6% purified glycerin. The inclusion of 6% purified glycerin in balanced diets for broilers from 8 to 21 days old was technically and economically feasible.

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate diet digestibility, performance, digestive parameters, and blood parameters when an enzyme complex (EC) was used in barley- and rye-based diets with different energy levels. In the digestibility assay (exp. I), 108 seventeen-day-old Cobb male broilers were distributed in a completely randomized design in 2 × 2 × 2 + 1 factorial arrangement with two feeds (barley or rye), two EC levels (0% and 0.02%), and two energy levels [3025 and 3125 kcal apparent metabolizable energy (AME)·kg−1], plus a control treatment. In exp. II, 1080 one-day-old Cobb male broilers were distributed in a completely randomized design in 2 × 2 × 2 + 1 factorial arrangement with two feeds (barley or rye), two EC levels (0% and 0.02%), and two energy levels (2875 and 2975 kcal AME·kg−1). No interactions were observed for any variables (exp. I and II). Enzyme complex improved the apparent metabolizable coefficient of gross energy (P = 0.0432) of diets. The EC provided greater weight gain (P = 0.0003) and better feed conversion (P = 0.0025). Intestinal viscosity at 21 d was reduced (P < 0.0001) with the addition of the EC. The EC improved nutrient digestibility and performance, but the effects of energy reduction on performance could not be overcome.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the energy and protein of Brewers' Dried Grains (BDG) produced from different proportions of harley, maize and sorghum on the performance of rabbits. Sixteen (16) rabbits made up of New Zealand and Chinchilla, eight (8) weeks old averaging 1.20kg were used in the trial in a completely randomized design. The four (4) diets were BDG (maize: barley: sorghum) (BDG MBS); BDG (maize: harley) (BDGMB); BDG (maize: sorghum) (BDG MS) and BDG (sorghum) (BDG S). The diets were the only source of protein and energy. The treatment effect was significant (p < 0.05) with the highest crude protein digestibility and nitrogen retention values recorded for BDG MBS. The digestible and metabolizable energy values were not significantly different (p > 0.05) for the BDG investigated. The digestible energy values determined for BDG MS, BDGS, BDG MBS and BDG MB in W/kg of dry matter were 16.97, 15.57, 14.84 and 13.35 respectively while the values for ME in MJ/kg of dry matter were 16.32, 14.91, 14.31 and 12.34 respectively. BDG from local sources have potential to make complete feed for rabbits judging from their impressive energy and protein values.

<p>The aims of this study was to evaluate the affect of dietary addition of glucomannan derived  from porang (<em>Amorphophallus oncophyllus</em>) tuber extract (GEUP) in broiler  ration on performance of broiler chicken. There  were 160 birds of day old broiler chicks of New Lohmann strain with average initial body weight of 42.08±0.86 g. The study was arranged in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. Each replication consisted of 8 birds. The treatments applied were T0 = basal ration, T1 = T0 + 0.05% GEUP, T2 = T0 + 0.10% GEUP, T3 = T0 + 0.15% GEUP and T4 = T0 + 0.20% GEUP. The parameters observed were protein digestibility, nitrogen retention, meat calcium and protein mass. The results showed that dietary addition of GUEP significantly (P &lt;0.05) increased coefficient of protein digestibility, meat calcium and protein mass, but had no affect on nitrogen retention. The highest protein digestibility and meat calcium mass were shown at T4, but  it was not significantly different from T3, and T2 for protein digestibility. While the highest meat protein mass was at T2 but it was not different with T3 and T4. The conclusion of the study was that dietary supplementation of  glucomannan derived from porang tuber extract in broiler up to 0.15% (T3) increased protein digestibility, meat calcium and protein mass with similar nitrogen retention.</p>

In Oman, efforts are underway to find alternative sources of fwd to support domestic livestock. The date industry thrives in Oman and one of its by-products is date fiber, a by-product of date syrup production. Although the product contains some free sugars, an evaluation of its potential in broiler diets has never been undertaken. Therefore, we conducted an experiment to investigate the value of date fiber in broiler chick diets. The experimental diets consisted of four graded levels of date fiber: 0, 15, 30 and 45 % in a broiler-starter ration replacing corn as an energy source. The diets were isonitrogenous. There were five replicates for each of the four diets and each replicate contained six broiler chicks. As date fiber percent increased in the dietary treatment, there were linear reductions in body weight gain, calculated apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn) content, and apparent protein digestibility (P < 0.05). Poor feed utilization (i .e., reduced feed efficiency) was observed in birds fed date fiber diets compared to the control group (P < 0.05). The poor performance of birds fed date fiber may be attributed to protein and energy limitations. We conclude that date fiber has no value in growing broiler diets. However, it may have utility in diets where a stable body weight is desirable.

Different levels of synthetic lysine amino acid were supplemented to 240 starter broiler chicks randomly distributed to 12 groups of each 20-day chicks and allocated to four treatment diets in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). T1 (Control) basal diet (0% synthetic lysine); T2 (0.15% synthetic lysine); T3 (0.3% synthetic lysine) and T4 (0.45% synthetic lysine). There was no significant difference (P>0.05) observed between treatments in dry matter, metabolizable energy, crude protein intake, body weight and death rate of the chicks. In conclusion, there were no significant changes for all parameters and further amino acid analysis of the feedstuffs is required and extra addition above 0.45% synthetic lysine of T4 need to be added in this experiment which numerically improved the chick’s performance. Further experiments were recommended to evaluate the levels of lysine amino acid in the feedstuffs and its inclusion level in to the diet of modern broiler strains.

Abstract The aim of this study was to examine the use of Gizzard Contents Extracts (GCE) and Duodenum Contents Extracts (DCE) of Chicken on In Vitro digestibility measurements of Turi Leaves (Sesbania grandiflora). The study was designed using a One-way Classification of Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments. Each treatment was repeated three times. Types of treatment in the form of using GCE and DCE, including: (1) control treatments (without GCE or DCE), (2) GCE, (3) DCE, and (4) a mixture of GCE and DCE. The observed variables were Coefficient of Dry Matter Digestibility (CDMD), Coefficient of Organic Matter Digestibility (COMD), and Coefficient of Soluble Protein Digestibility (CSPD). The results showed that the addition of GCE, DCE, and a mixture of GCE and DCE could not increase the CDMD, COMD, and CSPD of Turi Leaves compared to the control treatment. Keywords: Duodenal contents extract; Gizzard content extract; In vitro digestibility; Turi leaves.   Abstrak Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengkaji penggunaan cairan ekstrak isi gizzard (CEIZ) dan duodenum (CEID) ayam pada pengukuran kecernaan in vitro daun turi. Penelitian dirancang menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola searah dengan 4 perlakuan. Masing-masing perlakuan diulang tiga kali. Macam perlakuan berupa penggunaan penggunaan CEIZ dan CEID ayam, meliputi perlakuan kontrol (tanpa CEIZ maupun CEID), CEIZ, CEID, dan campuran CEIZ dan CEID. Variabel pengamatan berupa koefisien cerna bahan kering (KCBK), koefisien cerna bahan organic (KCBO), dan koefisien cerna protein terlarut (KCPT). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan penambahan cairan ekstrak isi gizzard, duodenum dan campuran keduanya tidak dapat meningkatkan KCBK, KCBO, dan KCPT daun turi dibandingkan dengan perlakuan control. Kata kunci: Cairan ekstrak isi duodenum; Cairan ekstrak isi gizzard;  Daun turi; Kecernaan in vitro.

<p class="abstrak2">This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of mulberry-leucaena foliage mixed feed on protein digestibility and VFA production using an in vitro gas production study. Mulberry was mixed with one of 2 leucaena varieties (<em>Leucaena leucocephala</em> hybrid and <em>Leucaena leucocephala</em> local) at 3 levels (0, 25 and 50%). Study was conducted in completely randomized design. Mulberry foliage, leucaena and mixtures of mulberry-leucaena were incubated for 24 hours in glass syringes. Parameter recorded were gas production, in vitro true dry matter digestibility (IVTDMD), in vitro N digestibility (IVND) and VFA production. Results of the study showed that supplementation of leucaena to mulberry decreased IVOMD, gas production and protein digestibility in the rumen buffered medium. The mixture of mulberry and leucaena hybrid at ratio 50% resulted in the lowest IVND than other treatment. However it increased protein digestibility in acid pepsin incubation as an estimate of protein availability in intestine. Gas production decreased in mulberry leucaena mixtures was followed by decreased total VFA production. Tannin derived from leucaena hybrid supplementation to mulberry at ratio 1 : 1 was most effective to decrease protein digestion in the rumen and to increase protein digestibility in acid pepsin incubation. In conclusion mixing of hybrid leucaena hybrid with mulberry foliage was able to protect protein degradation from mulberry in the rumen.</p>

The experiment was conducted to test the effect of boiled jackfruit seed meal on the performance and economics of starter broiler chicken. The experiment was conducted using one hundred and twenty chicks one week old. The chick swere fed formulated diets containing jackfruit meal (JFM) at T (0%), T (10%), T (20%) and T (30%) levels of inclusion. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of ten (10) broiler chicks each for 42 days in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The birds were fed ad-libitum throughout the period of the experiment. Data on feed intake and growth parameters were collected daily and weekly, respectively. Jackfruit is a potential feed resource and could be included in the diet of broiler chicks, up to10%level of inclusion without any adverse effect on its performance.
