Factorial models of Rosenberg’s Self-esteem Scale in Peruvian adolescentsAbstract: The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE) is an instrument widely used and designed to measure self-esteem in a single dimension. The aim of this research was to analyze the internal structure and the reliability of the RSE in Peruvian adolescents. The scale was administered to a total of 715 adolescents (51.3% female) with an average age of 12.20 years. Six models were identified by confirmatory factor analysis, which correspond to factorial structures reported in previous studies. The results showed a better goodness of fit for the one-dimensional model with control of method effects on inverse items, eliminating item 8 due to its ambiguity. Reliability was adequate and was calculated using the omega coefficient. The unifactorial structure of the RSE is discussed and it is concluded that the instrument reports evidence of validity and adequate internal consistency to be used in the Peruvian context.Keywords: Self-esteem; teenagers; validity; reliability.Resumen: La Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg (RSE) es un instrumento ampliamente utilizado que fue diseñado para medir la autoestima en una sola dimensión. La escala fue administrada a un total de 715 adolescentes (51.3% de sexo femenino; M edad = 12.20 años). Se identificaron seis modelos mediante análisis factorial confirmatorio, los cuales corresponden a estructuras factoriales reportadas en estudios previos. Los resultados mostraron mejores bondades de ajuste para el modelo unidimensional con control del efecto del método en ítems inversos eliminando el ítem 8 por su ambigüedad. La fiabilidad fue adecuada y se calculó a través del coeficiente omega. Se discute la estructura unifactorial de la RSE y se concluye que el instrumento proporciona evidencia de validez y consistencia interna adecuadas para ser utilizada en el contexto peruano.Palabras clave: Autoestima; adolescentes; validez; fiabilidad.

Literatures in the field of psychometrics recommend researchers to employvarious of methods on measuring individual attributes. Ideally,each methods are complementary and measuresthe construct designed to be measured. However, some problems arise when among the methods is unique and unrelated to the construct being measured. The uniqueness of method can lead what is called the method effect. In testing construct validity using confirmatory factor analysis, the emergence of this effect tend to reducing the goodness of fit indices of the model. There are many ways to solve these problem, one of themis controling the method effects and accommodate it to the model. This paper introduces how to accommodate method effecton the confirmatory factor analysis using structural equation modeling. In the application section, author identify the emergence of method effects due to the differences item writing direction (favorable-unfavorable). The analysis showed that method effectemerge from different writing direction.

Objectives. This study attempts to introduce the Driving Locus of Control (DLoC), a method focused on the internal or external source of attribution of the driving behaviour, to the Czech context. This study also relates DLoC to attitudes towards autonomous vehicles (AVs). Participants and setting. Out of the general population, 59 inquirers personally interviewed (CAPI) 1 065 respondents (49% women) in the age range between 15 and 92 years (M = 50, SD = 17). The respondents were sampled via multistage random sampling procedure, based on the list of addresses in the Czech Republic. Hypotheses. The authors hypothesised to replicate the original two-factor structure of the DLoC Scale and that the higher levels of internal DLoC result in not considering the improvement in traffic safety as the AVs replace human drivers. Statistical analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to analyse the factor structure of DLoC Scale. Hypotheses related to the empirical validity of the method were assessed via structural equation modelling. The reliability of DLoC Scale was calculated in terms of internal consistency (McDonald coefficient). Results. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed reasonably good support for structural validity of the one-dimensional DLoC-CZ15 factor model (χ2 = 426.967, df = 90, CFI = 0.964, TLI = 0.958, SRMR = 0.066, RMSEA = 0.065). In addition, the one-dimensional DLoC-CZ15 factor model showed acceptable internal consistency - ω = 0.9 (95% CI [0.89, 0.91]). The structural equation modelling found a relationship between DLoC and some of the items capturing attitudes towards AVs, too. Study limitations. The analysed data were obtained via interviews between respondents and inquirers. As a result, the study does not contain indicators of empirical validity measured by a methodologically different approach, such as an observation of driving behaviour.

AbstractEmpathy has been identified as a relevant variable in order to predict burnout in healthcare professionals. In addition, assertiveness and self-esteem have been considered relevant variables to develop empathic capacity. In the other hand, misconceptions surrounding empathy constitute a risk factor for burnout. Two adult samples (N = 252 and N = 275) were used to explore and confirm the underlying structure of two questionnaires. The Exercise of Process of Empathy (EPE) scale (18 items) confirmatory factor analysis including 5 dimensions (cognitive and emotional comprehension, attention, clarity and assertiveness), showed reasonable goodness- of-fit indices χ2(130) = 269.63, p < .001; RMSEA = .069 90% CI [0.058 – 0.079]; CFI = .965; TLI = .959. Alpha coefficient resulted .848. Common Misconceptions (EH) of empathy scale (16 items) confirmatory factor analysis, including 3 dimensions (feeling, confluence and character misconceptions) also obtained reasonable goodness-of-fit indices χ2(101) = 250.59, p < .001; RMSEA = .075 90% CI [0.063 – 0.087]; CFI = .952; TLI = .943. Alpha coefficient for Character resulted .727 (5 items), for Confluence .764 (5 items) and for Feeling .822 (6 items). The SEM model’s R2 resulted .303, being EH (misconceptions) a risk factor (b* = .171), EPE (empathy process) a protection factor (b* = –.183). The model partially explains how misconceptions empathy process and self-esteem (b* = –.334) relate to burnout syndrome in healthcare professionals; what is more, it heralds a potential means to prevent it.

The purpose of this study is to examine the validity of the scale for identifying gifted children, whose validity was proven by exploratory, confirmatory factor analysis, and whose reliability was proven the Cronbach alpha coefficient for identifying children in the 3-6 age group, using Mokken scaling based on nonparametric item response theory. The study group of the research consists of 253 students. As a result of the analysis of the 13-item 3-dimensional scale (above average ability, creativity and task commitment) with Monotone homogeneity Model, it is seen that a one-dimensional structure is obtained and the model fits when analyzed as a three-dimensional construct. For model data fit, when the discrimination and reliability values of the items are examined, it can be said that the one-dimensional structure of the scale is at an acceptable level, and relatively higher values are obtained for each criterion in the three-dimensional structure compared to the one-dimensional structure. Based on the findings, it can be interpreted that a parallel result was obtained in the validity study based on non-parametric item response theory of the scale, which was developed based on confirmatory factor analysis.

Self esteem merupakan sebuah pembentukan karakter mengenai diri sesorang dan merupakan faktor penting dalam perilaku langsung berkaitan dengan berbagai aspek dalam hidup. Tanpa dibekali self esteem, individu akan mengalami kesulitan untuk mengatasi tantangan hidup maupun untuk merasakan berbagai kebahagiaan dalam hidupnya. Ia juga mengatakan bahwa self esteem mengandung nilai keberlangsungan hidup (survival value) yang merupakan kebutuhan dasar manusia. Hal ini memungkinkan self esteem mampu memberikan sumbangan bermakna bagi proses kehidupan individu selanjutnya, maupun bagi perkembangan pribadi yang sehat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji validitas konstruk instrument tersebut. Data dalam penelitian ini subjek adalahsantri yang sedang dalam proses menempuh pendidikan di Pondok Pesantren Ma’hadut Tholabah Babakan, Lebaksiu, Tegal berjumlah 198 orang. Metode yang digunakan adalah Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) menggunakan software LISREL 8.70.Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa 7 dari 10 item yang ada bersifat unidimensional. Artinya hanya 7 item mengukur satu faktor saja sehingga model satu faktor yang diteorikan oleh rosenberg self esteem scale dapat diterima.Self-esteem is a character formation about someone and is an important factor in direct behavior related to various aspects of life. Without being equipped with self-esteem, individuals will find it difficult to overcome life's challenges and to feel various happiness in their lives. He also said that self-esteem contains the value of survival (survival value) which is a basic human need. This allows self-esteem to be able to contribute meaningfully to the next individual life process, as well as to healthy personal development. This study aims to examine the construct validity of the instrument. The data in this study were subjects who were in the process of taking education at the Ma'hadut Tholabah Babakan Islamic Boarding School in Lebaksiu, Tegal, amounting to 198 people. The method used is Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) using LISREL 8.70 software. The results of this study indicate that 7 out of 10 items are unidimensional. This means that only 7 items measure only one factor so that the one-factor model theorized by Rosenberg's self-esteem scale can be accepted.

The objective of this work was to contribute to the study of the validity of the “Appraisal of Self-care Agency Scale” (ASA scale) in older adults and to analyze its association with health-related behaviors and conditions. A questionnaire was constructed and applied to 165 elderly residents of Michoacán, Mexico. A confirmatory factor analysis of the scale's one-dimensional model was carried out, and also an analysis of internal consistency, as well as an analysis of the relationship with other variables based on group comparisons, exploring the effect of the elimination of inverse items. Overall, the reduced scale performed better although the one-dimensional model maintained a limited fit in the confirmatory factor analysis. Internal consistency was satisfactory in both scales (α coefficient= .806 and .826, respectively). In addition, some important group comparisons were identified with anthropometric measurements. In conclusion, tests were found supporting the validity of the ASA scale in older adults, although more evidence is still needed regarding its construct and criterion validity.

The Worry Domains Questionnaire was proposed as a measure of both pathological and nonpathological worry, and assesses the frequency of worrying about five different domains: relationships, lack of confidence, aimless future, work, and financial. The present study analyzed the factor structure of the long and short forms of the WDQ (WDQ and WDQ-SF, respectively) through confirmatory factor analysis in a sample of 262 students (M age = 21.8; SD = 2.6; 86.3% females). While the goodness-of-fit indices did not provide support for the WDQ, good fit indices were found for the WDQ-SF. Furthermore, no source of misspecification was identified, thus, supporting the factorial validity of the WDQ-SF scale. Significant positive correlations between the WDQ-SF and its subscales with worry (PSWQ), anxiety (STAI-T), and depression (BDI) were found. The internal consistency was good for the total scale and for the subscales. This work provides support for the use of the WDQ-SF, and potential uses for research and clinical purposes are discussed.

Abstract Introduction The Sleep Inertia Questionnaire (SIQ) was developed and validated in patients with mood disorders to evaluate difficulties with becoming fully awake after nighttime sleep or daytime naps in a multidimensional manner. However, few data are available regarding its psychometric properties in clinical samples with sleep disorders. Methods 211 patients (43.0±16.4 years old, 68% female, 17% minority) evaluated at the Behavioral Sleep Medicine (BSM) program of Penn State Health Sleep Research & Treatment Center completed the SIQ. All patients were diagnosed using ICSD-3 criteria, with 111 receiving a diagnosis of chronic insomnia disorder (CID), 48 of a central disorder of hypersomnolence (CDH), and 52 of other sleep disorders (OSD). Structural equation modelling was used to conduct confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the SIQ. Results CFA supported four SIQ dimensions of “physiological”, “cognitive”, “emotional” and “response to” (RSI) sleep inertia with adequate goodness-of-fit (TLI=0.90, CFI=0.91, GFI=0.85, RMSEA=0.08). Internal consistency was high (α=0.94), including that of its dimensions (physiological α=0.89, cognitive α=0.94, emotional α=0.67, RSI α=0.78). Dimension inter-correlations were moderate to high (r=0.42–0.93, p&lt;0.01), indicating good construct validity. Convergent validity showed moderate correlations with Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) scores (r=0.38) and large correlations with Flinders fatigue scale (FFS) scores (r=0.65). Criterion validity showed significantly (p&lt;0.01) higher scores in subjects with CDH (69.0±16.6) as compared to those with CID (54.4±18.3) or OSD (58.5±20.0). A SIQ cut-off score ≥57.5 provided a sensitivity/specificity of 0.77/0.65, while a cut-off score ≥61.5 provided a sensitivity/specificity of 0.71/0.70 to identify CDH vs. ESS&lt;10 (AUC=0.76). Conclusion The SIQ shows satisfactory indices of reliability and construct validity in a clinically-diverse sleep disorders sample. Its criterion validity is supported by its divergent association with hypersomnia vs. insomnia disorders, as well as its adequate sensitivity/specificity to identify patients with CDH. The SIQ can help clinicians easily assess the complex dimensionality of sleep inertia and target behavioral sleep treatments. Future studies should confirm the best SIQ cut-off score by including good sleeping controls, while clinical studies should determine its minimal clinically important difference after pharmacological or behavioral treatments. Positive attitudes towards breastfeeding in health professionals/students have been associated with increasing their confidence to provide support and accompaniment to mothers. In Mexico, there is no valid/reliable tool to assess attitudes towards breastfeeding in this population. The Australian Breastfeeding Attitudes (and Knowledge) Questionnaire (ABAQ) measures attitudes in the Australian population. We aimed to adapt and validate the ABAQ in Mexican health students. We included 264 health students (nursing, nutrition, and medicine) from the University of Guadalajara. Bilingual translators carried out the Spanish adaptation with a reverse translation into English. Experts evaluated the content validity. Reliability was evaluated through an internal consistency analysis (Cronbach’s alpha) and construct validity through convergent–divergent validation, item–total correlation, exploratory factor analysis (by principal components), and confirmatory factor analysis. According to the exploratory factor analysis, only one component was identified. Seven items were removed (low correlation between items ≤0.2 and low factor load ≤0.3). The Cronbach’s alpha was 0.78. According to the confirmatory factor analysis, the one-factor solution of the ABAQ-13Mx showed a good model fit (X2 = 98.41, G = 62, p = 0.02, CFI = 0.940, and RMSEA = 0.048). The ABAQ-13Mx is a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating attitudes towards breastfeeding in Mexican health degree students.

<p>Drawing from the transformational leadership theory, this study aims to translate and analyse the psychometric properties of a Spanish version of the Transformational Teaching Questionnaire (TTQ).</p><p>A cohort sample of 2107 adolescents (997 males and 1110 females) from 82 secondary schools voluntarily participated in the research.</p><p>In Study 1 ((<em>n</em> = 1066), the exploratory factor analysis informed a one-factor solution. In Study 2  (<em>n</em> = 1041), the confirmatory factor analysis showed the single-factor and the four-factor models showed satisfactory and adequate goodness of fit indices, respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that the four-factor structure of transformational teaching with a high second-order factor, previously found in Canadian adolescents, was replicated in this study. Internal consistency was high in all subscales and in the total scale. The expected pattern of significant relationships with other variables was supported, and evidence of measurement invariance across gender groups was obtained.</p><p>This study provides evidence for the cross-cultural validation of the TTQ, a questionnaire designed to assess students’ perceptions of their teachers’ behaviours from the perspective of transformational leadership theory. These findings suggested that the Spanish version of TTQ would be useful for assessing transformational teaching in Spanish adolescents in physical education classes.</p>
