The purpose of this study was to implement a comprehensive teaching program based on the principles of Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) model and questioning, and to assess its consequences for students’ satisfaction of basic psychological needs, motivation, perceptions of ability and intention to be physically active during Physical Education lessons in primary education. A quasi-experimental design was utilized. Participants were 111 students from two different groups of fifth and sixth graders, all enrolled in one primary school. Participants were divided into experimental and control group. Experimental group experienced a TGfU unit, according to small side games and the questioning. Control group experienced a small side games unit, without questioning. Within-group results showed that experimental group students reported significantly higher mean scores in all dependents variables of the study, in both genders. Results showed that control group only reported significantly higher mean scores in intention to be physically active variable, also in both genders. The results demonstrate the need to implement didactic units under comprehensive pedagogical approaches to improve motivation and the intention to develop healthy lifestyle habits in female and male students. More researches are needed to support this evidence.

There are previous studies in the literature conducted on the effect of play-based math activities on the mathematical skills, language, and cognitive development of preschool children. However, the number of studies conducted to determine the effect of play-based math activities on different areas of development in preschool children was too few. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of play-based math activities on different developmental areas (personal-social, fine motor, language, and gross motor development) of children 48 to 60 months of age. The pretest/posttest quasi-experimental research design with control and experimental groups was employed in this study. The research group of this study is composed of 45 children 22 of whom (10 girls and 12 boys) were in the experimental group and 23 (10 girls and 13 boys) in the control group. Denver II Developmental Screening Test was used as the data collection tool. As a result, it was determined that there was a significant difference between the subscales and pretest-posttest total scores concerning personal-social, fine motor, and language areas in the experimental group, while there was no statistically significant difference in the gross motor subscale. In addition, it was observed that there was statistically no significant difference between pretest–posttest scores concerning personal-social, fine motor, language, gross motor subscales and total scores of the control group. The result revealed that play-based math activities have a positive effect on personal-social, fine motor, language, and gross motor developments of children. Further studies can be planned to investigate the effects of play-based mathematics education integrated with different activities where children can have fun and be physically active on children’s developmental areas.

Low self-esteem is also associated with poverty, it is necessary to have an effort to accept the conditions of life first. One of the simple characteristics of the acceptance effort is gratitude. Gratitude is a strong predictor to increase hope and happiness in adolescents who experience poverty. This research was designed as experimental group in X secondary school. The group was consisted of 6 respondents without a control group. The design of this study was a quasi-experimental (one group pretest-posttest) using the Rosenberg Self-esteem scale (RSSE) with a reliability coefficient of 0.88. The implementation of the gratitude intervention was designed using an intervention module from the aspect of the Indonesian grateful scale (SBI) and it was neither just a list of words of gratitude nor gratefulness. This gratitude intervention is done by inviting participants to focus on positive aspects of life, exploring positive emotions by recalculating the blessings of life that have been received from God and others. To sum up, these findings provide new findings in the use of gratitude intervention that focuses on the divine aspect. The results of this study indicate that there are significant differences in respondent's self-esteem before and after administration of the gratitude intervention, with self-esteem (RSSE) (Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.042, p <0.05). This discussion focuses on the implications generated for Gratitude literature which are adapted to Indonesian cultural values.

Several international institutions emphasize the need to develop a comprehensive education in STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) to improve learning, competences and student perception of these subjects. The general objective of this study was to analyze the teaching effectiveness, from a cognitive and emotional perspective, of a STEM workshop versus an academic-expositional methodology in the science classroom in primary education. The research design was quasi-experimental with a control group, an experimental group, a pre-test and two post-tests. By means of a randomized probabilistic sampling, 256 students between 10 and 12 years old participated. Cognitive, emotional, attitudinal and gender variables were analyzed according to two teaching methodologies, an expository academic methodology for the control group and an active methodology based on the development of a practical STEM workshop for the experimental group. The results reveal that both methodologies are equally effective in short-term learning, but statistically significant differences are found in long-term learning, in favor of STEM workshops. Likewise, the STEM workshop mainly generates positive emotions and attitudes in the students compared to the transmission-reception methodology applied with the control group.

Background: active lifestyles and Physical Activity (PA) are closely related to health. Healthy habits such as being physically active should be consolidated during childhood. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) present fewer opportunities to be involved in PA. For this reason, we conducted a Service-Learning (SL) program to enhance the possibility of participating ASD children enjoying PA sessions. The aim of this study was to analyze and describe the evolution in terms of the frequency and intensity of PA performed by ASD children who participated in the SL program. Methods: we used a quasi-experimental design. The sample was formed by 26 children with ASD (Experimental group: n = 16; 4 girls, 12 boys) (Control group: n = 10; 1 girl, 9 boys) with ASD level 1. Results: after the intervention program, moderate PA during the week increased significantly (Pre-Median: 92.04, Range: 35.71–126.47 min; Post-Median: 212.67, Range: 99.75, 271.04 min) (p ≤ 0.001). When comparing both groups, the tendency to do PA in the Experimental group remained more stable. Also, the improvements in moderate intensities were higher in the Experimental group after the intervention. Conclusion: a six-month SL program improved the moderate PA routines of ASD children. However, longer programs and longitudinal studies are required.

An Army soldier must be able to foster physical fitness so that his body becomes healthy and can carry out his main duties to maintain the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Indonesia. This study aims to determine the effect of adding core stability exercise to increasing the value of physical fitness B in soldiers. Quasi experimental design research held at Yon Armed 4 Cimahi. A sample of 20 soldiers divided into 2 groups. The dependent variable is the physical fitness score B and the independent variable is the core stability exercise. Exercise is carried out for 4 weeks with a frequency of 3 times per week. The difference in test results between the experimental group and the control group both before and after core stability exercise was tested by independent T test. There was a difference in the mean physical fitness scores between the experimental group (Mean= 85.80; SD= 2.82) and the control group (Mean= 82.50; SD= 2.32) before the intervention, and the difference was statistically significant (p= 0.011). There was a difference in physical fitness scores before and after the intervention between the experimental group (Mean= 3.90; SD= 1.52) and the control group (Mean= 1.60; SD= 0.70) and statistically significant (p < 0.001), with effect size = 1.94. Conclusion core stability exercise is effective to increase the physical fitness value of B on soldiers of Yon Armed 4 Cimahi

The development of numerical thinking in primary education is an important aspect of children's mathematical training, since it allows for a general understanding of numbers and operations in order to facilitate the development of their handling and application. The work allows the implementation of a pedagogical strategy based on didactic engineering, which allows students to identify and formulate questions related to the management and understanding of numbers and their basic operations together with the decision to approach individually and which ones in a group way while planning and making decisions in their development and evaluation of results. The study is framed in the quantitative paradigm, in a quasi-experimental design, working with control and experimental groups. Pre-test is applied to identify the development of numerical thinking in students and as a support to the design of the intervention proposal. Once the proposal is developed, it is evaluated by means of a post-test that allows identifying significant improvements in the numerical thinking of the children of the experimental group in comparison with those of the control group. This leads to the conclusion that the developed intervention contributes favorably to the development of numerical thinking in children.
