Mandibular fractures are the most common in children, however with a low incidence because of child anatomy. Among the sites, the condyle is one the most fracture site, being a dilemma to surgeons about your management. The treatment to condyle fracture can be a surgical approach or conservative management. Conservative treatment presents the IMF, appliances, soft diet, and physiotherapy as an option, and these treatments can be applied isolated or associated. Physical Therapy has been a few reported in the literature as isolated therapy, reported as complementing the surgical approach, or after orthodontic/appliances therapy. Promote early mandibular mobility is important to restore function and prevent future complications such as ankylosis. Instruments to perform physiotherapy are expensive and not accessible to the entire population. Therefore, the present study presents a case of a pediatric patient with condyle fracture treated with a soft diet and physiotherapy with wooden spatula.

Background: Panoramic radiography is widely used as a diagnostic tool before oral surgeries and can be considered the foremost follow-up image after. It provides a broad observation of the maxillomandibular complex at a lower cost and radiation dose. But cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) examination, after panoramic radiograph evaluation, can produce a change in the diagnostic thinking of maxillofacial surgeons leading to alterations in treatment plans. Objective: We aim to report a case with incidentally discovered radiographic findings where diagnostic changes were caused by switching from panoramic to CBCT imaging. Conclusion: Radiographic assessment of the position and angulation of screws by panoramic x-ray should be approached with extreme caution. The image of choice is CBCT if nerve injury is suspected.

Purpose: The known preformed osteosynthesis plates for the midface are helpful tools for a precise and fast fixation of repositioned fractures. The purpose of the current study is to analyze the precision of newly developed prototypes of preformed osteosynthesis plates for the mandible. Methods: Four newly designed preformed osteosynthesis plates, generated by a statistical shape model based on 115 CT scans, were virtually analyzed. The used plates were designed for symphyseal, parasymphyseal, angle, and condyle fractures. Each type of plate has three different sizes. For analysis, the shortest distance between the plate and the bone surface was measured, and the sum of the plate-to-bone distances over the whole surface was calculated. Results: A distance between plate and bone of less than 1.5 mm was defined as sufficient fitting. The plate for symphyseal fractures showed good fitting in 90% of the cases for size M, and in 84% for size L. For parasymphyseal fractures, size S fits in 80%, size M in 68%, and size L in 65% of the cases. Angle fractures with their specific plate show good fitting for size S in 53%, size M in 60%, and size L in 47%. The preformed plate for the condyle part fits for size S in 75%, for size M in 85%, and for size L in 74% of the cases. Conclusion: The newly developed mandible plates show sufficient clinical fitting to ensure adequate fracture reduction and fixation.

The objective was to study the epidemiological, clinical and radiological aspects of patients with mandibular fractures in the odontostomatology department at the General hospital Idrissa Pouye in Senegal. This was a retrospective study of the records of patients who came for a mandibular fracture during the period from February 2007 to June 2019 to the odontostomatology department of the General hospital Idrissa Pouye in Dakar. The inclusion criterion was any patient file containing complete information and presenting a mandibular fracture received in the odontostomatology department. We used sociodemographic, clinical and radiographic variables. Of 128 patients who came for consultation with a mandibular fracture, 115 were male and 13 were female. The age group most affected was between 21 and 30 years. Workers (25.2%), pupils and students (25.2%) were the most represented. The most frequent cause of mandibular fractures was road traffic accidents (36.71%). In 41% of the road accidents, Jakarta mopeds were involved. The diagnosis was confirmed by radiological examination, which consisted of an orthopantomogram in 83.5% of cases. The mandibular symphysis was the most frequent location with 40.3% of fracture sites. Total continuity of the lines was observed in 21.9% of cases.

Despite the active ability to repair, it is frequently noticed that the independent potentialof bone tissue is insufficient, that is a serious problem in reconstructive maxillofacialsurgery, orthopedics and traumatology. In recent years, there has been an activesearch for implant material that would match the autologous bone in its properties andcharacteristics. Tissue engineering technologies allow to create tissue equivalents tobone tissue using autogenous stromal cells deposited on biocompatible or biologicalmaterial of tissue engineering design. The article presents the features of preoperativemanagement, description of the used examination methods and bone augmentationmaterials in patients of the groups under study.Objective – to use a set of adequate methods of examination and optimal preoperativemanagement of patients of the group under study during sinus lifting, post-extractionsocket preservation, osteosynthesis for mandibular fractures and impacted wisdom teethextraction, which were accompanied by the use of bone augmentation materials based onmultipotent mesenchymal stromal cells.Material and methods. 280 people aged 18 to 55 with partial or complete adentiaand atrophy of the alveolar process of the jaws, with chronic periodontium infectionand chronic generalized periodontitis, with fractures and impacted third molars wereexamined in the Department of Surgical Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery of theChernivtsi Regional Clinical Hospital. All patients were planned to make orthopedicstructures based on dental implants.Results. The use of computed tomography in preoperative examination of patients in thestudied group allows not only visually to examine the object, but also to perform directdensitometric analysis with measurement of attenuation coefficients in Hounsfield units,that is a significant advantage over X-ray examination.Conclusions. The use of bone augmentation materials based on multipotent mesenchymalstromal cells of adipose tissue during dental operations improves the regenerativeproperties of bone tissue and helps to reduce the duration of inpatient treatment.
