A parametric study that examines the ground surface settlement due to the excavation of shallow offset arrangement twin tunnels is presented. Offset arrangement tunnels are those that run parallel to each other, but at different elevations. The study focuses on the influence of both the construction sequence and various geometric parameters on the induced soil settlement. A series of three-dimensional finite element analyses was carried out to investigate the settlement behavior and interactions between offset arrangement twin tunnels excavated in clay using a simplified mechanized excavation method. Analyses were carried out for three cover-to-diameter (C/D) ratios, three possible construction sequences, five angular relative positions, and five angular spacings. In addition, settlement data were also investigated by varying horizontal and vertical spacings while keeping the angular spacing constant. The total settlement of the excavated twin tunnels and the settlement induced solely by the new second tunnel are both presented, and special attention was paid to identifying the dominant geometric parameters. The observed data trends from this study are generally consistent with the limited data available in the literature. This study confirmed a few perceived behaviors. First, angular relative position better describes the settlement behavior in comparison to angular spacing. Second, the effect of the vertical distance is noticeably more significant than that of the horizontal distance between the two tunnels. Third, excavation of the lower tunnel at first induces higher total ground settlement than when the upper tunnel is excavated first or when both tunnels are excavated concurrently. Fourth, settlement due to the construction of the newer tunnel decreases with the increase in the cover depth. In addition, two design charts have been proposed to calculate the settlement induced from a new second tunnel excavation and the eccentricity of the maximum total settlement relative to the center of the new tunnel.

The excavation of a shallow buried tunnel may cause stress redistribution in surrounding rock, and cause deformation, damage, and even destruction of adjacent underground pipelines. The land part of the Haicang undersea tunnel in Xiamen of China was a super shallow buried large span double-arch tunnel. Its construction was restricted by both underground excavation safe and adjacent pipeline protection. Multiple groups of working conditions were designed considering the relative position of pipe and tunnel, pipeline and tunnel construction parameters. Numerical simulation was used to study the influence of pipeline horizontal distance, buried depth, pipeline diameter, pipeline wall thickness, pipeline shape, pipeline material and excavation method on the response of adjacent underground pipelines. The results show that the relative position of pipe and tunnel, and the construction method of the double-arch tunnel have a great influence on pipeline deformation. Pipeline material, pipeline diameter and excavation method have a great influence on pipeline stress. The construction method was the key factor affecting the stress and deformation of the pipeline. The three-step reserved core soil method can effectively control the stress and deformation of underground pipelines. The research results can provide a reference for similar projects.

The mixing process between miscible fluids in a splitting-and-recombination microreactor is analyzed numerically by solving the Navier–Stokes equation and species transfer equation. The commercial microreactor combines rectangular channels with comb-shaped inserts to achieve the splitting-and-recombination effect. The results show that the microreactor with three-layer standard inserts have the highest mixing rate as well as good mixing efficiency within a wide range of Reynolds numbers from 0.1 to 160. The size parameters of the inserts, both the ratio of the width of comb tooth (marked as l) and the spacing distance (marked as s) between two comb teeth, and the ratio of the vertical distance (marked as V) of comb teeth and the horizontal distance (marked as H) are essential for influencing the liquid–liquid mixing process at low Reynolds numbers (e.g., Re ≤ 2). With the increase of s/l from 1 to 4, the mixing efficiency drops from 0.99 to 0.45 at Re = 0.2. Similarly, the increase in V/H is not beneficial to promote the mixing between fluids. When the ratio of V/H changes from 10:10 to 10:4, the splitting and recombination cycles reduce so that the uniform mixing between different fluids can be hardly achieved. The width of comb tooth (marked as l) is 1 mm and the spacing distance (marked as s) between two comb teeth is 2 mm. The vertical distance (marked as V) of comb teeth and the horizontal distance (marked as H) are both 10 mm.

The use of a multi-functional autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) as a platform for making turbulence measurements in the ocean is developed. The layout optimization of the turbulence package and platform motion performance are limitation problems in turbulent AUV design. In this study, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method has been used to determine the optimized layout position and distance of the shear probe integrated into an AUV. When placed 0.8 D ahead of the AUV nose along the axis, the shear probe is not influenced by flow distortion and can contact the water body first. To analyze the motion of the turbulence AUV, the dynamic model of turbulence AUV for planar flight is obtained. Then, the mathematical equations of speed and angle of attack under steady-state motion have also been obtained. By calculating the hydrodynamic coefficients of the turbulence AUV and given system parameters, the simulation analysis has been conducted. The simulation results demonstrated that the speed of turbulent AUV is 0.5–1 m/s, and the maximum angle of attack is less than 6.5°, which meets the observation requirements of the shear probe. In addition, turbulence AUV conducted a series of sea-trials in the northern South China Sea to illustrate the validity of the design and measurement. Two continuous profiles (1000 m) with a horizontal distance of 10 km were completed, and numerous high-quality spatiotemporal turbulence data were obtained. These profiles demonstrate the superior flight performance of turbulence AUV. Analysis shows that the measured data are of high quality, with the shear spectra being in very good agreement with the Nasmyth spectrum. Dissipation rates are consistent with background shear. When shear velocity is weak, the measurement of dissipation rate is 10−10 W Kg−1. All indications are that the turbulence AUV is suitable for long-term, contiguous ocean microstructure measurements, which will provide data needed to understand the temporal and spatial variability of the turbulent processes in the oceans.

AbstractWorking memory and pattern separation are fundamental cognitive abilities which, when impaired, significantly diminish quality of life. Discovering genetic mechanisms underlying innate and disease-induced variation in these cognitive abilities is a critical step towards treatments for common and devastating neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. In this regard, the trial-unique nonmatching-to-location assay (TUNL) is a touchscreen operant conditioning procedure allowing simultaneous quantification of working memory and pattern separation in mice and rats. In the present study, we used the TUNL assay to quantify these cognitive abilities in C57BL/6J and DBA/2J mice. These strains are the founders of the BXD recombinant inbred mouse panel which enables discovery of genetic mechanisms underlying phenotypic variation. TUNL testing revealed that pattern separation was significantly influenced by mouse strain, whereas working memory was not. Moreover, horizontal distance and vertical distance between choice-phase stimuli had dissociable effects on TUNL performance. These findings provide novel data on mouse strain differences in pattern separation and support previous findings of equivalent working memory performance in C57BL/6J and DBA/2J mice. Although working memory of the BXD founder strains was equivalent in this study, working memory of BXD strains may be divergent because of transgressive segregation. Collectively, data presented here indicate that pattern separation is heritable in the mouse and that the BXD panel can be used to identify mechanisms underlying variation in pattern separation.

Novum Drone

This is why the Novum Drone could be improved, with relative resistance and very little autonomy. Speaking of the battery, it is this which ensures a greater or lesser autonomy. It has now been two good years that Novum Droneare among the most sold electronic objects in the USA but also throughout the world. They meet this need to be able to take the place of the bird and to be able to discover new places. Using this device it really feels like you are in the air and entering a new world. It is also an object that attracts the curiosity of people who see it flying. You will thus be able to fly over houses, explore places inaccessible on foot, in short have new sensations. So how does it work? Well, you have to know several things. First of all, it's an object that flies through four propellers. This is why the drone is also called a quadcopter which literally means four propellers. Note that some models may have more propellers. To make these propellers work, you need a motor and it needs to be powerful enough to allow the whole drone to fly. This motor is powered by a battery which provides energy to the assembly. Consideration should also be given to the materials used to build the drone. Solid materials must be used so that the machine can withstand wind, rain and shocks. However, the drone must not be too heavy at the risk of not being able to fly. Elevation is actually the same setting as range, because it is cumulative with horizontal distance. So, when you choose a drone, you need to know if you plan to fly it high up or especially horizontally, that is to say over a length. Note that some Novum Droneare dedicated to drone racing, which are more and more popular. More and more professionals are using drones. And this is particularly the case in the audiovisual world. Whether it is for capturing film shots, making reports and more, a drone is very practical. If you try to go too high, you may lose your drone's signal and have some issues. The speed of the drone is expressed in km / h as for a car or any other vehicle. Welcome to Novum Drone this website will allow you to know everything about the drone. There you will find a buying guide, reviews and tests. But also advice on how to use your drone properly. Blasting excavation is extensively used in tunnel construction, and the adverse effect of ground vibration induced by blasting on surrounding structures and inhabitants is a critical problem. This study aims to investigate the tunnel hollow effect on triaxial peak particle velocities (PPV) and dominant frequencies induced by electronic detonator. Field experiments were conducted in a shallow tunnel construction site and the ground vibration waveforms were recorded. Variational mode decomposition (VMD) was applied to denoise and correct the zero-drift phenomenon, and the proposed method of selecting the optimal parameter was verified. A series of statistical analyses and tests were performed to evaluate the differences of peak particle velocity and dominant frequency among various monitoring points. The results showed that the hollow effect on Z-axis PPV is significant, and triaxial PPV is also affected when the horizontal distance exceeds 30 m. The hollow effect on dominant frequency could not be identified since the hollow of tunnel is a free face, and the dominant frequency of reflected wave remains unchanged. An augmented factor of 1.229 is determined carefully as the hollow effect factor on PPV. Therefore, blasting vibration induced by electronic detonator of the excavated zone should be attached with greater importance, and hollow effect on PPV should be considered in the blasting design of tunnel excavation.

Applying different types of fertilizers to different depths of soil according to demand is advantageous in that it can optimize the distribution of nutrients in arable soil, adjust the nutrient supply of each growth stage of wheat, and increase grain yield. In the study, a layered fertilization opener that could realize the layered fertilization was developed. The interaction model between the opener, fertilizer and soil was established using EDEM simulation software. A response surface analysis was used to determine the optimal parameters of the opener. Specifically, the horizontal distance between the fertilizer drop openings was 140 mm, the machine speed was 1.05 m/s, and the angle of the opener was 37°. Furthermore, field experiments demonstrated that the average depth of upper layer was 8.39 cm, the average depth of middle layer was 16.465 cm, the average depth of lower layer was 24.025 cm, the average spacing of upper layer was 8.075 cm, and the average spacing of lower layer was 7.6 cm. The corresponding findings demonstrated that the layering effect of the opener met the requirements of the fertilization standard.

In this paper a ground safety assessment model is introduced based on the probability estimation of possible impact positions when unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashes on the ground. By incorporating the random uncertainties during the descending process, risks associated with UAV’s ground crash are estimated accurately. The number of victims on the ground per flight hour is selected as the indicative index to evaluate the risk levels of the corresponding ground area. We mainly focus on the analysis of uncertainties that usually appear in drag coefficient which would generate a great amount of effects on the travelled horizontal distance from the failure point to the impact point on the ground, which further influences the possible impact positions. The drag force in the air, failure velocity of a UAV, and wind effects in the local area are all considered in the proposed model, as well as ground features, including sheltering effects on the ground, UAV parameter settings, and distribution of local population. Uncertainties in drag force when a UAV descends, UAV’s initial horizontal and vertical speeds at failure point, and local wind patterns are all considered as the indispensable factors in the proposed model. Especially the probability of fatality once hit by the UAV’s debris is explored to make the safety assessment more reliable and valuable. In the end, the actual UAV parameters and official historical weather data are used to estimate the risks in a real operation environment when a failure event happens at a legal flying height. Experimental results are given based on different types of UAVs and random effects in the descent. The results show that all the operations of all kinds of UAVs selected in the validation are so dangerous that the safety of people on the ground cannot be guaranteed, whose value is much bigger than the manned aircraft safety criterion 10−7.

The Piyungan landfill is located in Bantul Regency, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, still uses an open dumping system. The open dumping system produced more quantity of leachate from other systems. Leachate spreads to the ground and seeps into the ground to the groundwater surface. These conditions have an impact on the environment. This study aims to assess the groundwater vulnerability to leachate contamination in the area around the Piyungan landfill. The research method used is survey and mapping, and data analysis is carried out using the Le Grand method. Geographic Information System (GIS) is also used to visualize data into maps. The Le Grand method considers as many as 5 physical environmental parameters, including the groundwater depth, absorption above ground, aquifer permeability, groundwater slope, and horizontal distance of wells with pollutant sources. Next, scoring is carried out for each of these parameters, and then a groundwater vulnerability map is made using the overlay method. The results of the study were three classes of the potential vulnerability of groundwater pollutions. That were large pollution potential (may or may be polluted), medium pollution potential (maybe polluted but slightly), and small pollution potential (very difficult to pollute).
