This paper presents the feasibility study of the technical and economic performances of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system for selected rooftops in Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The analysis of the electricity consumption and electricity bill data of UTHM campus show that the monthly electricity usage in UTHM campus is very high and expensive. The main purpose of this project is to reduce the annual electricity consumption and electricity bill of UTHM with Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme. Therefore, the grid-connected PV system has been proposed at Dewan Sultan Ibrahim (DSI), Tunku Tun Aminah Library (TTAL), Fakulti Kejuruteraan Awam dan Alam Bina (FKAAS) and F2 buildings UTHM by using three types of PV modules which are mono-crystalline silicon (Mono-Si), poly-crystalline silicon (Poly-Si) and Thin-film. These three PV modules were modeled, simulated and calculated using Helioscope software with the capacity of 2,166.40kWp, 2,046.20kWp and 1,845kWp respectively for the total rooftop area of 190,302.9 ft². The economic analysis was conducted on the chosen three installed PV modules using RETScreen software. As a result, the Mono-Si showed the best PV module that can produce 2,332,327.40 kWh of PV energy, 4.4% of CO₂ reduction, 9.3 years of payback period considering 21 years of the contractual period and profit of RM4,932,274.58 for 11.7 years after payback period. Moreover, the proposed installation of 2,166.40kWp (Mono-SI PV module) can reduce the annual electricity bill and CO2 emission of 3.6% (RM421,561.93) and 4.4% (1,851.40 tCO₂) compared to the system without PV system.

The measurement of the energy consumed by residential and commercial buildings by utility provider is important in billing, control, and monitoring of the usage of energy. Traditional metering techniques used for the measurement of energy are not convenient and is prone to different forms of irregularities. These irregularities include meter failure, meter tampering, inaccuracies in billing due to human error, energy theft, and loss of revenue due to corruption, etc. This research study proposed the design and construction of a microcontroller-based electric energy metering system using the Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) network. This system provides a solution to the irregularities posed by the traditional metering technique by allowing the utility provider have access to remote monitoring capabilities, full control over consumer load, and remote power disconnection in the case of energy theft. Proteus simulation software was used to model the system hardware and the software was obtained by using embedded C programming and visual basic. It was observed that the system could remotely take accurate energy readings, provided full control over consumer loads and execute remote disconnection in case of energy theft. The system provides high performance and high accuracy in power monitoring and power management.

Insufficient power generation has facilitated the search for alternative power generation, as the world is gradually making the transition to renewable green energy sources as a replacement for fossil fuels and other conventional power generation methods that causes environmental pollution. One of these methods is the use of solar energy for electricity generation through the use of the photovoltaic solar inverter which harnesses the power from the sun to generate electricity. The inability of electricity distributors to provide enough and sustainable power supply for homes and businesses, coupled with the need to live a smart life has made humans sort for an easier control method of electricity generation and usage. Hence, this research presents a smart voice and mobile application control modular inverter integrated with a smart metered energy distribution system, which equally distributes power amongst the users for effective and smart energy usage. A test of applied load on the inverter as compared to normal electricity usage deduced an 8% error rate giving a 92% accuracy for the inverter. The mobile app was tested for both online and offline usage and a 67% accuracy was deduced as the overall accuracy of the software. This gives an inference that the system can be fully operated by a user in the luxury of their comfort. For smart meter monitoring and energy allocation, 93.33% and 96.8% accuracy and precision were achieved respectively. This research makes the usage of green energy more efficient with its feature which allows for equal distribution of energy. The system also helps prevent energy theft or misuse by providing only the proper user with alerts and administrative control.

In order to study the accurate measurement of electric energy in complex industrial field, a method of harmonic electric energy measurement based on wavelet packet decomposition and reconstruction algorithm, as well as the calculation formula of harmonic power and the principle of harmonic electric energy measurement are proposed. Using db42 wavelet function to carry out harmonic energy metering simulation analysis, the results show that: The fundamental frequency of the simulation signal is 50 Hz, two-layer wavelet packet transform is adopted, the simulation input signals within 40 fundamental wave cycles are taken, and the sampling frequency fs is 800 Hz. Conclusion: The three-phase harmonic energy metering device based on virtual instrument technology has realized the measurement of each harmonic active power and reactive power, and the accuracy reaches 0.2 s.

Generate energy by Solar PV installation among prosumer, i.e; domestic, commercial, industrial as well as agriculture for self-consumption under Net Energy Metering (NEM) system become more popular in Malaysia. One, if not the only reason, is that day-to-day installation costs are kept at a decreasing rate and this is one of the reasonable ones for future investments and energy savings. By considering this issue, this study is motivated to investigate the relationship between installed capacity with the total installation costs as represented by equipment costs, installed costs, and operating costs. Secondary data was utilized provided by Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia and retrieved from Malaysian Energy Information Hub (MEIH). The data is then run by multivariate regression, which is focused on the random and fixed-effect model. Overall, the findings indicate that there is a significant relationship between installed capacities with total installation costs among all categories of the prosumer in Malaysia. It would be recommended that the policymaker can increase the quota capacity allocation to the prosumer since the costs are at a diminishing rate that led to the take-up rate increase.

Abstract The manual inspection for the damage state of the electric energy metering box consumes a lot of time, the workload is large, and the data storage is difficult. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes an automatic detection method for the damage state of the electric energy metering box based on the YOLOv5 algorithm. The actual metering box pictures taken by the operation and maintenance inspectors are used as the training set, LabelImage is used to annotate the data set, and YOLOv5s model is used to train the data set. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper can accurately mark the position of the metering box lid and accurately predict its damage state. The average accuracy reaches 98%, which can meet the requirements for the detection accuracy of the power metering box damage state in the operation and maintenance inspection work.
