Abstract Particle solar receivers promise economical and operational advantages compared to the molten salt based solar receivers. In this study, an experiment is designed to observe the particle flow characteristics in the Centrifugal Solar Particle Receiver. A set of experiments for various receiver rotation speeds and particle mass flow rates is conducted, and experimentally obtained raw results are post-processed by means of an Image Processing Routine based on 4BestEstimate algorithm[1]. The axial advance of the particles in one turn, the particle film thickness and the ratio of the stationary zone to the receiver circumference are measured in order to be later used in the validation study of the Discrete Element Method based numerical model.

Differences in flow rates of this nature have a significant effect on the unevenness of the moisture content of the dried material, since the material which remains in the drying chamber for an unnecessarily long time is over-dried and the under-drying is a problem for the material remaining in the dryer for too short a time. In this article, I analyzed the effect of increasing particle-wall friction on the unevenness of the particle flow velocity field. The research has shown that dead zones are formed in the vicinity of the rough walls, which reduce the uniformity of the flow. The results show that the tribological properties of the inner wall surfaces of the dryers can have a very significant effect on the efficient operation of the dryers.

The microparameter calibration of the particle flow parallel bond model (PBM) is mostly based on a uniaxial compression test. The microparameters calibrated only by uniaxial compression tests cannot be directly used to study the mechanical properties of rocks with surrounding pressure conditions. To analyze the relationship between the macroparameters and microparameters in the model and select appropriate particle flow model parameters, this study conducted a particle flow numerical simulation experiment based on the basic test principles of the uniaxial compression, Brazilian splitting, and triaxial compression tests. An orthogonal experimental design was performed for the calibration of the microparameters of the particle flow PBM, and multifactor analysis of variance was used to screen out the factors that have a considerable influence on the experimental indicators. Regression analysis was performed on the significant influencing factors and test indicators, and the corresponding linear and nonlinear relationships between the macroparameters and microparameters were obtained. Lastly, the microparameters of the model were determined in accordance with the macroparameters of the mechanical test of the Barun open-pit mine dolomite, and a numerical simulation test was conducted. Simulation test results were consistent with the actual test results, thus providing a basis for a subsequent numerical simulation study on the mechanical properties of dolomite.
