In this paper, the passive heave compensator for the strand jack lifting system is studied. An analytical model is developed, which considers the nonlinear characteristic of the compensator stiffness thus as to predict its response under different parameters accurately. This analytical model helps to find the feasible gas volume of the compensator. The comparative analysis is carried out to analyze the influence of key design parameters on the dynamic response of the compensator. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the compensator, a coupling model of the strand jack lifting system is derived. The compensator efficiency is evaluated in terms of the lifted structure displacement and the strand dynamic tension. The numerical simulations are performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the compensator. Numerical results show that the compensator is able to significantly decrease the tension variation in the strands and the motion of the lifted structure.

An algorithm is proposed in this paper for calculating the impulse earthing resistances of vertical earthing electrodes. The proposed algorithm employs the average potential method to derive the formula of the low current earthing resistance. Unlike the previous algorithm, the soil ionization effect under high impulse current is taken into account by introducing a nonlinear characteristic to represent the relationship between the electric field and current density in the ionization zone around the earthing electrode. On the basis of the nonlinear characteristic, the effective radius is evaluated for the equivalent earthing electrode. Then, the impulse earthing resistance can be calculated by substituting the effective radius into the formula of the low current earthing resistance. A comparison is also made between calculated and measured results to confirm the validity of the proposed algorithm. Keywords: Earthing Resistance; Vertical Earthing Electrode; Average Potential Integral; Soil Ionization; Current Density;

The article analyzes elastic elements with a nonlinear characteristic. To improve the smoothness of a truck, a combined elastic element is proposed, including a semi-eleptic spring and an air cylinder, for installation in the rear axle suspension of a car. In order to assess the effect of a combined elastic element with a nonlinear characteristic on the smoothness of the ride, a mathematical model has been developed. The mathematical model allows for a numerical experiment taking into account the nature of the interaction of tires with unevenness of the roadway and the nonlinear characteristics of the combined elastic element.

Pendubot is a popular inverted pendulum model in control engineering. Usually, two-link pendubot is used due to its simplicity in mechanical structure and its nonlinear characteristic. The challenge of control can be increased by adding more links to system. In this paper, balancing five-link pendubot at TOP position and pulse-tracking this model are tested through simulation. The control algorithm LQR is in survey in this research. The simulation shows that system is stabilized well at working point and it is also control well in tracking a pulse trajectory.
