Elementary school counselors are instrumental in student success and well-being; unfortunately, school counselors at the elementary level also have higher caseloads and more tenuous job opportunities. Thus, there exists a need to advocate for elementary school counseling. Previous research has examined school counseling advocacy across K–12 settings and included advocacy as one aspect of larger studies. Given this gap in the literature, we conducted a phenomenological investigation to examine the lived experiences of professionals who reported successfully advocating for elementary school counseling positions and roles. We discuss findings and implications, including applying results to the school counseling profession, in an effort to bolster elementary school counseling and better school counseling services to students.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa tentang penguatan pendidikan karakter melalui Program Konseling Pondok Pesantren Mahir Arriyadl di Keling Kepung Kediri. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Peneliti mendapatkan data menggunakan metode wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Tahap-tahap penelitian meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Temuan penelitian ini berupa: (1) Penerapan Penguatan Pendidikan karakter melalui program konseling di Pondok Pesantren Mahir Arriyadl Keling Kepung Kediri dilatarbelakangi oleh rasa tanggung jawab pondok dalam melaksanakan secara langsung kepada para santri tentang materi-materi yang sudah diajarkan terutama adap tingkah laku melalui program konseling, serta penerapan tata tertib pondok pesantren menjadikan para santri menjadi terbiasa dengan peraturan yang ada di pondok (2) Aktualisasi penguatan pendidikan karakter dilakukan dengan pendekatan berbasis individu, keluarga, pondok, dan masyarakat dalam satu kesatuanyang utuh dan saling terkait (3) Upaya strategis pondok pesantren dalam meningkatkan program penguatan pendidikan karakter melalui program konseling yaitu menjadikan pendidikan karakter bagian dari kurikulum, pemenuhan sarana dan prasarana yang memadai, menyatukan visi sumber daya manusia.[This study aims to analyze the strengthening of character education through the Mahir Arriyadl Islamic Boarding School Counseling Program in Keling Kepung Kediri. This study uses a qualitative approach. Researchers get data using interviews, observation, and documentation. The research stages include data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings of this study are: (1) The application of strengthening character education through a counseling program at the Pondok Pesantren Mahir Arriyadl Keling Kepung Kediri is motivated by the sense of responsibility of the cottage in implementing directly to the students about the materials that have been taught, especially behavior through the counseling program. , as well as the application of boarding school rules and regulations to make students familiar with the existing regulations in the boarding school (2) Actualization of strengthening character education is carried out with an individual, family, cottage, and community-based approach in a unified and interrelated unit (3) Strategic efforts Islamic boarding schools in improving character education strengthening programs through counseling programs, namely making character education part of the curriculum, fulfilling adequate facilities and infrastructure, unifying the vision of human resources.]

Tulisan ini mengkaji bentuk – bentuk dan penerapan strategi pencegahan sikap fanatisme di lingkungan sekolah berlatarbelakang Islam. Fanatisme dalam lingkungan sekolah Islam menjadi permasalahan penting yang harus segera disikapi. Objek penelitian ini adalah seluruh tenaga ahli pendidik dari setiap lembaga pendidikan yang sudah berpengalaman dalam mengukur tingkat fanatisme di lingkungan sekolah, dengan jumlah partisipan sebanyak 28 orang sebagai perwakilan dari berbagai institusi pendidikan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif dengan pengumpulan data lewat pengisian kuesioner yang disebarkan kepada responden, yang berada di sekitar Pulau Jawa. Setelah data terkumpul, penarikan kesimpulan menggunakan pola pikir deduktif. Hasil kajian berdasarkan pengisian kuesioner dapat disimpulkan bahwa bentuk – bentuk fanatisme dipengaruhi oleh kurangnya perspektif ilmu di masyarakat, pengaruh circle pertemanannya, dan pengaruh mekanisme organisasi sekolah yang diikuti pelajar. Serta penerapan pencegahan fanatisme di lingkungan sekolah Islam dapat dilakukan dengan pendekatan Bimbingan Konseling (BK).

Access to school counseling services leads to access to college-readiness counseling initiatives, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education–focused counseling for students. School counselor caseload and percentage of time spent on college-readiness counseling were analyzed in relation to longitudinal STEM postsecondary outcomes of students in a nationally representative sample. Access to school counselors who spend 21% or more of their time on college-readiness counseling predicted persistence and attainment of a STEM postsecondary degree. The current results offer implications for school counselors, counselor educators, and future researchers, including the need for STEM self-efficacy interventions, unbiased curriculum, and professional development on STEM counseling for school counselors; and the call for a more nuanced understanding of this topic.

This promising practice describes an innovative collaboration between West Virginia University, a land grant institution situated in the middle of rural Appalachia, and Kanawha County Schools, located in Charleston, WV. The partnership aimed to assist the rural school district by supporting children in three elementary schools and by providing the university’s school counseling students an immersion experience in rural schools, with the hope of retaining them in the school district following graduation. The collaboration fulfilled the original mission of the program in two ways; first, the school district retained one-third of the school counseling students who participated. Secondly, the collaboration was met with overwhelming support by district leadership, resulting in an increase in school counseling students entering the program in the next academic year.
