The purpose of the chapter is to present, on the basis of theoretical starting points, the importance of management of older people for the entire society as well as the problem of older employees and their management as an important branch of human resource management, which presents a major challenge for companies. The main aim of the chapter is to design the conceptual model of managing older employees to achieve their work engagement, which will serve as the basis for understanding the successful ageing of older employees and creating an appropriate working environment favourable for all generations. By promoting active ageing and introducing the management of older employees, companies can achieve an important increase in the work engagement of older employees, a change of generally accepted stereotypes, myths, and prejudices about older people and the reduction of discrimination of older people in the labour market. The appropriate working conditions that should be available in all companies contribute to the improvement of management of older employees and their work engagement.

Introduction Over the last fifteen years, Living Labs have been on the rise in Europe to bridge the gap between service providers, and the needs of end-users, and to speed up innovation, particularly in the field of healthcare and ageing. Ageing tends to be considered by institutions as a set of risks to be managed for older persons, illustrated in particular via the concepts of “ageing well” or “successful ageing”. In this context, this project aims to define the meaning and the conditions for a good life from the point of view of older persons themselves, thereby improving institutions’ recognition and support of older persons’ ways of living well, rather than imposing a general definition of “successful ageing” based on functional capacity. Methods and analysis This qualitative study is designed as an action research underpinned by a Living-Lab approach to co-creation. The aims are to: define the conditions for a good life as accurately as possible with older persons (Step 1); share these findings with different healthcare and service providers to adjust existing services or create new ones (Step 2); and disseminate them more broadly within the regions under study and across the scientific community (Step 3). During Step 1, the features of a “good life” will be analysed in a socio-anthropological study based on semi-directed interviews and observations made in the homes of 70 elderly people living in a wide range of accommodation types and regions. In accordance with French legislation, and as confirmed by our formal Ethics Committee, this study does not require approval. The dissemination stage is integrated into the design of this action research, and notably will provide for the appropriation of research findings by the partners of this study, by setting up creativity sessions (Step 2) and by sharing the general findings through panel discussions bringing together regional and national stakeholders (Step 3).

Abstract The basis for this hermeneutic phenomenological research was to identify common themes in women 65 years of age and older and determine whether these women felt valued in ageing. The best description of this research becomes the study of the phenomena as real living or “entering the lifeworld “(Finlay, 2012). The research sought to increase the knowledge of how older women feel about their own ageing and the effect of society’s response to them. The participants covered a large age range of 66 to 93 years of age all of which experienced physical, emotional, and social changes involving age. The participants' response to these changes of ageing and society’s response to them ranged from very positive to very distressing. Twelve women were interviewed from a vast range of locations throughout the United States through zoom due to COVID 19. Their responses reflect four main categories: ageism, successful ageing, active engagement, and social support. The interviews focused on seven main questions: Tell me about being your age? Is there a time you can recall when you first felt older? Have you ever felt mistreated as an older adult? Have you ever felt you were discounted or ignored as being an older woman? Have you done anything to maintain your youth? Have you done anything to feel youthful? Have you ever felt dismissed related to your age? Utilizing seven questions and the conversation with these questions brought forth this study. This became a platform for these women to tell their stories.

Abstract Purpose Ageing is a complex phenomenon that should be studied in a multidisciplinary approach examining the biological, psychological, and social determinants in it. There is a lack of understanding of how social factors contribute to a better and healthier way of ageing. Based on previous studies social factors have a more essential role in ageing successfully. These factors have a significant influence on mental and physical health as well. The present review aims to collect the most researched social factors related to successful ageing and to examine the associations revealed between social factors and successful ageing. Materials/Methods We conducted a systematic review by the guidelines of the PRISMA statements. We examined the studies included by using a qualitative synthesis to identify the most important social factors and their role in successful ageing. Results In total, 18 original articles published in English between 2015 and 2020 were included in the review. The examined social factors related to successful ageing can be classified into four categories: Social engagement/participation, Social support, Social integration/network, and Socio-demographic/Socioeconomic factors. Social factors are modifiable and protective determinants, they could eliminate the negative effects of psychological factors while modifying the effects of physical determinants of ageing at the same time. Conclusions Our results have implications for future studies, as successful ageing should be examined in a multidimensional way. They should provide further evidence for the mediating/moderating importance of social factors which also have relevance in practice. Social factors could provide a quality life for years to come.

AbstractThis study aimed to determine the prevalence and correlates of successful ageing in older community-dwelling adults in India. The cross-sectional sample included 21,343 individuals (≥ 65 years) from the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) Wave 1 in 2017–2018. Successful ageing was assessed utilizing a multidimensional concept, including five components: (1) absence of major illness, (2) free of disability, (3) no major depressive disorder, (4) social engagement and (5) life satisfaction. Overall, 27.2% had successful ageing, including 83.3% had no major diseases, 51.0% free from disability, 91.8% had no major depressive disorder, 73.6% were socially engaged and 74.6% had high life satisfaction. In the adjusted logistic regression analysis, male sex (Adjusted Odds Ratio-AOR 1.40, 95% Confidence Interval-CI 1.21–1.26), married (AOR 1.48, 95% CI 1.22–1.79), having formal education (AOR 1.47, 95% CI 1.23–1.74), high subjective socioeconomic status (AOR 1.61, 95% CI 1.29–2.01), urban residence (AOR 1.42, 95% CI 1.19–1.70), Sikhs (AOR 1.76, 95% CI 1.38–2.24), high physical activity (AOR 1.65, 95% CI 1.38–1.97), and daily Yoga practice (AOR 1.34, 95% CI 1.11–1.61) increased the odds of successful ageing, while increasing age (AOR 0.96, 95% CI 0.94–0.79), poor childhood health (AOR: 0.47, 95% CI 0.29–0.75), and underweight (AOR 0.70, 95% CI 0.61–0.81) decreased the odds of successful ageing. Almost one in three older adults in India were successfully ageing. Factors associated with successful ageing included, male sex, married, having formal education, high subjective socioeconomic status, urban residence, Sikhs, physical activity, Yoga practice, younger age, good childhood health, and not having underweight.
