Background Breastfeeding intention can predict breastfeeding behaviour and is influenced by theory of planned behaviour constructs. Despite associations with reduced breastfeeding duration, there is a lack of research to explore the intention to mixed feed infants. Aims This study aimed to explore the factors that influence pregnant women's intentions to mixed feed their first child. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four women pregnant with their first child who intended to mixed feed. An in-depth idiographic multiple case study approach grounded in a ‘subtle realist’ epistemology was used. Results The interviews highlighted the importance of flexibility in feeding decisions, a perception of breastfeeding as restrictive and obstructive to normality and the presence of misinformation and unrealistic expectations about breastfeeding. Conclusions Women need to be informed and supported by professionals, peers, families and broader communities. Cultural narratives must be challenged to enable mothers to feel in control of feeding decisions and without the need to justify feeding activities to protect themselves from anticipated negative emotions.

In recent years, based on new scientific data, many countries worldwide have been revising the existing standards for introducing trace elements in mixed feed for highly productive broiler chicken crosses. This also applies to selenium, which is recognized as an indispensable biotic ultramicroelement with a wide range of biological action according to modern classification. However, some aspects of the selenium effects on poultry have not been elucidated yet. We have conducted comprehensive research to deepen and expand modern ideas about the biological role of selenium, its impact on the interior and productive qualities of broiler chickens in the post-embryonic period of ontogenesis. One of the tasks was to study the causal relationship between the level of selenium consumption by broiler chickens and the studied indicators. The research was conducted on broiler chickens of the Cobb 500 cross. During the rearing period, the feeding of broiler chickens of all groups was carried out with dry full-fledged mixed feeds following the existing norms. The poultry of the first control group did not receive selenium supplementation. The poultry of the second experimental group was additionally injected with Selenium at the rate of 0.2 mg/kg, the third of 0.3, and the fourth of 0.4 mg/kg. When conducting a correlation analysis of the obtained experimental data, it was found that there are different levels and directions of relationship between internal and economically valuable features included in the study, which may vary depending on the selenium content in mixed feed for broiler chickens. A scheme of modeling the effect of selenium on broiler chickens’ bodies is proposed.

Abstract The two main factors that drive the shift to liquid cracking in the Middle East are the restricted availability of ethane and the fact that naphtha or mixed feed cracking provides us with a much more diverse product mix. This opens the path to a higher share of performance chemicals. Building petrochemical complexes based on liquid or mixed feed cracking requires very complicated downstream configurations at a high level of integration with refinery streams. The value created by such a project rests on the ability of the operator to solve complex optimization problems in a volatile market environment. Inevitably, the correctness of the investment decision rests on the ability of the management to determine the value of the project under conditions of uncertainty regarding the future market prices. This paper demonstrates how the approach that was developed originally for the option valuation, can be used to address the problem of project assessment under the conditions of uncertainty. A real-life example of an investment decision about a modification of a rail terminal is used to illustrate the problem and to present a solution to it. Building on this example further, the paper argues that the method of Real Option valuation can support a creation of a competitive advantage in the conditions of uncertainty.

Abstract Sow milk is usually enough to meet the need for nutrients of three weeks age piglets. However from the beginning of life they need supplemental nutrients in the form of creep feeding. The objective of this study was to survey the usefulness of special mixed feeds (super starter, pre-starter, starter feeds) given as creep feeding and feeding to suckling pigs, as well as the use of immunostimulant for their health, better growth and development. The study showed that suckling pig fed with special super starter, pre-starter and starter mixed feed depending on age, as well as young animals additionally treated with intramuscular injected immunostimulant better by growth rate. The highest indicators for the live weight of piglets at the age of 60 days (weaning) and for the milk content of sows were in the experimental group, which was intramuscularly injected with an immunostimulator The highest live weight of (weaning) piglets aged 60 days was in treated groups.

The results of studies on the effect of the introduction of the amino acid tryptophan in the amount of 0.04 % in the composition of the combo feed and additionally in the diet of the feed mixture «Chondrotan» (on the physiological parameters and meat productivity of broiler chickens. The greatest effect on the hematological parameters of broilers was provided by tryptophan in combination with the feed mixture «Chondrotan» at the rate of 350 g per 1 ton of mixed feed. It was also revealed that the use of tryptophan and different amounts of «Chondrotan» feed mixture in the feeding of broiler chickens contributes to an increase, in comparison with the control, of the mass of the gutted carcass, respectively, by 2,07 (P<0,05); 5,24 (P<0,001) and 2,99 % (P<0,001), edible parts of the carcass-by 2,11 (P<0,05); 5,72 (P<0,001) and 3,14 % (P<0,001), pectoral muscles – by 2,17 (P<0,05); 5,63 (P<0,001) and 3,20 % (P<0,001). The quality indicators of meat are improving in the young animals of the experimental groups: the content of dry matter in the pectoral muscles – by 0,09; 0,15 (P<0,05) and 0,13 % (P<0,05), protein-by 0,12; 0,40 (P<0,01) and 0,19 % (P<0,05). Of the experimental groups, the highest indicators of meat yield and quality were noted in broilers of the II experimental group.

Abstract To realize the genetic potential of pig productivity and balance diets, it is perhaps to use various additives, including silicon-containing zeolite trepel. The novelty of the work - the use of zeolite in feeding as a preventive and therapeutic additive allows you to increase productivity and reduce the cost of feed and feed costs compared to similar additives. For the experiment, 4 recipes of mixed feeds were developed: one without the content of zeolite trepel and 3 with 3, 4, 5% of this additive. It is proved that the best dose of this drug is 3% of the mass of feed. It was found that the body weight gain in II group increased by 13.5%, in III group by 7.2%, and in IV group decreased by 4.41% compared to the control group. The addition of silicon-containing zeolite in the II and III experimental groups did not affect the consumption of mixed feed, and in the IV experimental group, a decrease in the consumption of mixed feed was observed. Feed consumption in the I, III and IV experimental groups decreased by 12.1%, 6.7% and 0.3%.

We analyzed qualitative (biochemical) and safety indicators (toxic elements) in seeds of cereals, oil crops and products of their processing, the comparison of the biochemical traits of the corresponding crops for two years (yields of 2019 and 2020) was conducted. The purpose of the work is a comparative estimation of qualitative and safety indicators (toxic elements) in seeds of cereals, oil crops and products of their processing (for two years). As material of the research there were used seeds of cereals (wheat, corn), seeds of oil crops (sunflower, soybean) and products of their processing (sunflower cake, sunflower meal, mixed feed for pigs). The analysis was carried out by gravimetric, titrimetric and atomic absorption methods. As a result of the study there were noted the high values of the following indicators: the mass fraction of moisture in seeds of cereals and their processed products; the mass fraction of crude protein and crude fiber in seeds of oil crops and their processed products; the mass fraction of crude fat and crude ash in the seeds of oil crops; concentrations of toxic elements (cadmium and mercury) did not exceed the limit of permissible concentrations. There was practically no change in the concentration in the two-year dynamics in the mass fraction: of moisture in seeds of oil crops; of protein in processed products; of crude fat, crude fiber, and crude ash; the contents of cadmium and mercury in all studied objects.

Background and Aim: The quality of food, especially animal-based food, is crucial for human health. However, the quality of milk and other animal products has become an acute cause for concern in Kazakhstan . Technogenic dispersion of heavy metals (HMs) causes adverse effects on living organisms and creates unfavorable conditions for the existence of humans, animals, and plants. The purpose of this study was to analyze the content of several HMs in samples of soil, horse feed (hay, mixed feed, and bran), mare's milk, and manure to assess bioaccumulation and possible adverse effects on the bodies of horses. An additional purpose was to identify areas with acceptable conditions for obtaining environmentally safe horse breeding products in the agricultural zones of the Almaty region, Kazakhstan. Materials and Methods: Samples were obtained from two farms in the Almaty region in 2020 (spring, summer, and autumn). In total, 72 soil samples were analyzed, which were taken from the upper humus horizon to the depth of the arable layer. Eighty-six samples were taken from the feed of horses. Green feed was represented by perennial and annual grasses (alsike clover, Medicago sativa, sweet yellow clover, as well as pea and oat mix). Barley and wheat bran stored in the warehouses of the farm were sampled for the research as feed supplements. The mixed feed comprised components such as maize and sunflower. In addition, 46 samples of mare's milk and 28 samples of horse manure were collected. The HM analysis was performed in the laboratory of the Kazakh-Japanese Innovation Center. The residual amounts of HMs were determined using an absorption spectrometer with a voltammetric analyzer. The content of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), and arsenic (As) in all the studied samples of soil, feed, mare's milk, and manure did not exceed the threshold limit values (TLVs), suggesting that the intake of these toxic elements into the human body with food was low. Results: The average Cd concentration was in the range of 0.29-0.31 mg/kg in soil samples and in the range of 0.20-0.27 mg/kg in feed samples. In milk, the Cd concentration varied from 0.01 to 0.02 mg/L and was lower in summer and higher in fall. The total average Cd content in horse manure was 0.1844 mg/kg. The concentration of Pb in soil samples ranged from 1.09 to 1.30 mg/kg with the lowest value in spring and the highest in fall. In the feed, the concentration of Pb varied from 0.14 to 0.76 mg/kg and in milk from 0.03 to 0.15 mg/L. The average concentrations of Hg and As in soil samples averaged 0.022 and 0.019 mg/kg, respectively, and were within the TLVs. Conclusion: In the study areas, the calculated transition rates in the soil–feed–milk–manure system revealed that the greatest transition of HMs was observed for Pb and Cd, and a smaller migration was observed for Hg and As. The tendency of accumulation of trace elements continued in the feed.
