Background: The aim of this study is to assess the incidence and characteristic of corneal grafts and its association with diabetes mellitus in Poland in the years 2013–2017. Methods: The retrospective survey of the National Database of Hospitalizations was performed to identify all the corneal transplantations in Poland between January 2013 and December 2017. The comorbid diseases, in particular diabetes mellitus, were verified in the patients’ medical history. The logistic regression was applied to demonstrate the factors related to urgent surgeries. Results: In total, 5069 corneal grafts in 4710 patients were reported in the years 2013–2017. The number of CTs gradually increased by 37% from 914 (2.37 surgeries per one hundred thousand population) in the year 2013 to 1250 (3.25 surgeries per one hundred thousand population) in 2017, the final year of the study. CT incidence was the highest in subjects aged 70 years or older: 13.18 per one hundred thousand population in the year 2017. On average, about 22.43% of procedures were performed in patients with DM. The chance of urgent surgery was mostly correlated with full thickness CT and patients’ age. Conclusions: Despite the relatively low value of CT in Poland, there was an increasing number of CTs in the analyzed period.

Information on phenological metrics of individual plant species is meager. Phenological metrics generation for a specific plant species can prove beneficial if the species is ecologically or economically important. Teak, a dominating tree in most regions of the world has been focused on in the present study due to its multiple benefits. Forecasts on such species can attain a substantial improvement in their productivity. MODIS NDVI time series when subjected to statistical smoothing techniques exhibited good output with Tukey’s smoothing (TS) with a low RMSE of 0.042 compared to single exponential (SE) and double exponential (DE). Phenological metrics, namely, the start of the season (SOS), end of the season (EOS), maximum of the season (MAX), and length of the season (LOS) were generated using Tukey-smoothed MODIS NDVI data for the years 2003–2004 and 2013–2014. Post shifts in SOS and EOS by 14 and 37 days respectively with a preshift of 28 days in MAX were observed in the year 2013–2014. Preshift in MAX was accompanied by an increase in greenness exhibiting increased NDVI value.LOS increased by 24 days in the year 2013–2014, showing an increase in the duration of the season of teak. Dates of these satellite-retrieved phenological occurrences were validated with ground phenological data calculated using crown cover assessment. The present study demonstrated the potential of a spatial approach in the generation of phenometrics for an individual plant species, which is significant in determining productivity or a crucial trophic link for a given region.

BackgroundIndia’s tobacco-free film and TV rules were implemented from 2012. To assess the effect of the rules, we studied tobacco depictions in top-grossing Bollywood films released between 2006 and 2017 and rule compliance after 2012.MethodsTobacco incidents and brand appearances were coded in 240 top-grossing Bollywood films (2006–2017) using the Breathe California method. Trends in number of tobacco incidents per film per year were studied before and after implementation of the rules using Poisson regression analysis. Compliance with rules over the years was studied using Pearson product-moment correlations.ResultsForty-five films were U-rated (all ages), 162 were UA-rated (below age 12 years must be adult-accompanied), and 33 were A-rated (age 18+ years only). Before implementation of the rules, the number of tobacco incidents per film was increasing by a factor of 1.1/year (95% CI 1.0 to 1.2, p=0.002). However, beginning year 2013, the number of incidents per film started falling significantly by a factor of 0.7/year (95% CI 0.6 to 0.9; p=0.012) compared with the previous increasing trend. The percentage of youth-rated (U and UA) films with any tobacco incidents also declined from a peak of 76% in 2012 to 35% in 2017. The percentage of films complying with the rules (audio-visual disclaimers, health spots, static warnings) did not change significantly from 2012 to 2017.ConclusionIndia’s 2012 rules were followed by a reduction in tobacco depictions in Bollywood films. Enhanced monitoring of compliance is needed to ensure the continued effectiveness of the rules.

This paper stimulated by the fact that Muslim women participation in education in Indonesia is still lower than in neighbouring countries. This condition has been influenced by the weak support of Hadith Curriculum of Madrasah Aliyah toward gender equity. This condition has been miss understood by some scholars that Hadith does not support gender equity. The aims of this paper are to give a clear picture of gender equity in Hadith literature and analyse the content of Hadith Curriculum of Madrasah Aliyah in Indonesia in relation to gender equity support. Data were gained through Hadith literature and Hadith Curriculum of Madrasah Aliyah Year 2013. This study revealed that Hadith strongly support gender equity in all spects of life achieved as in economic, social, and political aspects. In addition, Hadith Curriculum of Madrasah Aliyah does not strongly support the emergence of strong and positive thinking toward gender equity among the students of Madrasah Aliyah who most of them then becoming religious leaders in Indonesian society. The implication of this finding requires us to make changes in the content structure of the Curriculum of Hadith for Madrasah Aliyah in Indonesia.

The development of culinary business at Culinary Tourism Centre (CTC) has produced domestic wastewater from dish washing activities and food residues. One CTC in Tambaksari District, Surabaya City has not had Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) yet. The CTC only has equalization tank for accommodating wastewater before discharged into the water body. This research aimed to determine the characteristics of domestic wastewater from the CTC and to design the appropriate WWTP in the CTC. The standard was based on the Regulation of the East Java Governor Number 72 Year 2013. The result showed that the concentrations of TSS, grease and oil, BOD, COD were 14 mg/L, 1.59 mg/L, 1154.8 mg/L, and 2054.8 mg/L, respectively. The WWTP units consisted of a grease trap, an equalization tank, primary sedimentation tank, anaerobic tank, aerobic tank, and secondary sedimentation tank. The estimated cost to build the WWTP was IDR 278,093,774.

Background and Objectives. Chronic hepatitis B and C infections are capable of progressing to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Globally, it has been estimated that over 2 billion and 170 million people are living with hepatitis B and C infections, respectively. Ghana remains one of the highly endemic countries challenged by the continuous spread of these viral agents in Africa. This study was aimed at determining the seroprevalence and trend of Hepatitis B and C coinfections among blood donors in Saboba District of the Northern Region of Ghana. Methods. A five-year hospital-based retrospective study was carried out among 8605 blood donors comprising 8517 males and 88 females using data on blood donors from Saboba Assemblies of God Hospital located in the Saboba District in the Northern Region of Ghana from 2013 to 2017. Blood bank records on HBV and HCV potential blood donors who visited the hospital to donate blood were retrieved. Donor demographic details, i.e., age and gender, were also recovered. Donors who were registered to the hospital but were not residents of the Northern Region were excluded from the study. Donors with incomplete records were also excluded from the study. The data was managed using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet 2016 and analysed using GraphPad Prism statistical software. Results. The overall prevalence of asymptomatic viral hepatitis B and C infections in the general adult population was 9.59% (95% CI: 9.00-10.20) and 12.71% (95% CI: 12.00-13.40), respectively, with an HBV/HCV coinfection rate of 2.23% (95% CI: 1.90-2.60). The number of donors generally declined with advancement in years from 2038 (23.68%) since 2013 to as low as 1169 (13.59%) in 2016, except for 2017 where a sharp increase of 1926 (22.38%) was observed. The first and second highest proportions of donors fell within the age categories of 20-29 (51.53% (4434)) and 30-39 (32.90% (2831)) respectively. The seroprevalence rate of HBV, HCV, and HBV/HCV coinfection rates were generally higher among the female group than those observed among the male category. The year-to-year variation in HBV, HCV, and HBV/HCV infections was statistically significant. The highest year-to-year HBV seropositivity rate was 11.48% in the year 2013, while that for HCV and HBV/HCV coinfection was 16.24% and 5.85%, respectively, both documented in the year 2014. HBV and HBV/HCV coinfection rates were highest among donors aged <20 years old, while HCV seroprevalence was highest among donors aged 50-59 years old. Significantly higher odds of HBV/HCV coinfection ( OR = 5.2 ; 95% CI:3.3-8.1) was observed in the 2014 compared to the year 2013. Donors aged <20years were at higher risks of HBV and HBV/HCV coinfection rates compared to the other age groups. Conclusion. The seroprevalence of HBV and HCV among donors in the Saboba District of the Northern Region of Ghana is endemic. The HBV/HCV coinfection rate also raises serious concern owing to its high prevalence rate among the younger age. Intensive public health education coupled with mobile screening and mass vaccination of seronegative individuals is advised so as to help curb further spread of the infection and in effect help safeguard the health status of potential donors in the district.

The aim of this review article was to evaluate the awareness of carcinoma breast and practices related to self- breast examination among women in developing countries. The study included the exploration of databases and journal websites, pub med, google scholar, and medline. The articles studied for the review were focused on english language articles from the year 2013 to 2019. This review focused on knowledge of breast cancer and its risk factors among women. Fifteen articles were reviewed on this topic from the year 2013 to 2019 in which general awareness level of breast cancer was probably better than the knowledge of risk factor, sign and symptoms. It also shows that although awareness and knowledge regarding Breast cancer was satisfactory but the knowledge of self-breast examination was low and practice of self-breast examination was least in developing countries. So, awareness programs related to breast cancer should be planned, to ensure early detection and timely treatment for better outcome.
