Post-treatment adherence to the World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) lifestyle recommendations were associated with health-related quality of life (HRQoL), fatigue, and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors. In a prospective cohort among CRC survivors (n = 459), repeated home-visits were performed at 6 weeks, 6, 12, and 24 months post-treatment. Dietary intake, body composition, sedentary behaviour, and physical activity were assessed to construct a lifestyle score based on adherence to seven 2018 WCRF/AICR recommendations. Longitudinal associations of the lifestyle score with HRQoL, fatigue, and CIPN were analysed by confounder-adjusted linear mixed models. A higher lifestyle score was associated with better physical functioning and less activity-related fatigue, but not with CIPN. Adjustment for physical activity substantially attenuated observed associations, indicating its importance in the lifestyle score with regards to HRQoL. In contrast, adjustment for body composition and alcohol inflated observed associations, indicating that both recommendations had a counteractive influence within the lifestyle score. Our findings suggest that CRC survivors benefit from an overall adherence to the WCRF/AICR lifestyle recommendations in terms of HRQoL and fatigue, but not CIPN. Specific recommendations have a varying influence on these associations, complicating the interpretation and requiring further study.

The historian, journalist and professor from La Coruña Francisco Fariña, of whom we now celebrate the 130th anniversary of his birth, came to Czechoslovakia in 1933. He collaborated with the Spanish and Ibero-American Institute and the Schools of Languages of Charles University in Prague and Masaryk University Masaryk in Brno. His students played a key role in Spanish and Ibero-American studies becoming a university degree. The political situation in Spain and professional jealousy clouded his stay in the Central European country and forced him to exile in Germany, where he died in 1955.

This Article addresses the challenges, trends, and evolution of Taxpayers’ Rights both in the Unites States and in Latin America, particularly by comparing the U.S. Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights and the recently adopted Taxpayers’ Rights Letter from the Latin American Institute of Tax Law (ILADT). Furthermore, although in Latin American this is a relatively more recent topic, nonetheless, in the United States it is not, and the Article also addresses the evolution of taxpayers’ rights both from the point of view of the U.S. Constitution as well as iconic decisions from the U.S. Supreme Court.

This research presents the thematic content of the First Seminar on History of Ideas in Puerto Rico from December 3 to 8, 1956, convened by the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, institution that sponsors the Collection History of Ideas of America, directed by Dr. Leopoldo Zea in 1956. This intellectual participation is the first in Puerto Rico of the Mexican philosopher. It links the island to the Latin American philosophical current. Zea will emphasize this aspect later in an article of the volume published on the Sesquicentennial of Eugenio Maria de Hostos celebrated in 1989.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common birth defect, with a reported prevalence of 5–12 per 1000 live births. Very recently, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine published a guideline recommending the use of the four-chamber and the three-vessel and trachea views to screen for CHD in the first trimester of pregnancy. Our aim is to present abnormal image patterns that are seen in the four-chamber, three-vessel, and trachea views of the fetal heart in the first trimester and to describe their association with specific CHD types. We used a total of 29 cases of CHD from the archives of Filantropia Hospital and the Maternal and Child Health Institute (INSMC) fetal medicine units. We selected cases with a clear and well-documented diagnosis of the CHD type. We identified a series of repeating color doppler flow patterns seen in the four-chamber, three-vessel, and trachea views of the studied cases. Our observations could be developed into a diagnosis algorithm to orientate the examiner to the most likely type of CHD in individual cases.
