Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus panis are ethanol and lactic acid producers in Maotai-flavor Baijiu fermentation. Understanding their interaction is important to regulate the microbiome composition during fermentation and biosynthesis of ethanol and lactic acid. This study is the first to analyze the interaction between S. cerevisiae and L. panis at different growth phases during co-cultivation. Results showed that the different growth phases of S. cerevisiae modulated L. panis growth. Metabolomics analysis showed that amino acids and nucleoside secreted by S. cerevisiae promote L. panis growth, while ethanol inhibited L. panis growth. Furthermore, S. cerevisiae modulated L. panis cell growth under varying sugar concentrations. Simulated solid-state fermentation demonstrated that regulating the sugar concentration or the ratio of S. cerevisiae to L. panis could inhibit L. panis cell growth and reduce lactic acid accumulation. This study provided an understanding on Maotai-flavor Baijiu microbiome, which might be useful for metabolite regulation.

ABSTRACT Objective: drawing on voluntary disclosure theory, the paper’s main goal was to analyze the main effect of marketing intensity and the moderating role of life cycle on disclosure of marketing investments. Method: the sample includes 89 Brazilian companies listed on B3 stock exchange. We collected financial data from two sources, such as Economatica platform and in the explanatory notes and management report from the companies, which we coded through content analysis. We merged these two datasets and analyzed it using multiple linear regression. Results: both the marketing intensity and the life cycle of companies have effects on disclosure of marketing investments. In addition, the birth and growth phases moderate the main effect of marketing intensity, reducing the level of disclosure. This moderation is identified especially in disclosures of qualitative information. Conclusions: the findings support the voluntary disclosure theory based on arguments of judgment-based disclosure. Outcomes showed that when there is a high intensity of marketing investments, disclosure of marketing investments is managed by moving from the status of secrecy in companies in the birth and growth phases of life cycle to the status of differentiation resource in companies in the maturity phase of life cycle.

In this Study, relationship between rainfall and rice yield has been investigated in Ratnagiri and Thane districts of Maharashtra using 37 year's (1951.1987) data. Weekly water balance has been worked out in developing a yield index and its association with yield examined. Planting rates have been calculated assuming two categories of empirical rainfall accumulations of 450 and 500 mm. The yields were correlated with rainfall during selected growth phases, total rainfall, the yield index and the technological trend. Effects of late or early onset on yield has also been examined.   It appears that 450 mm rainfall accumulation from Ist June gives a ~reasonably accurate indication of transplanting paddy in Konkan. Technology seems.. to have much influence on the paddy yield. Results also reveal that rainfall during early growth phases is significantly related to the yield the date of planting was not found to/have a determining influence on the yield.

The growth of microalgae under optimized conditions was determined for assessing their growth rate and biomass production. In this study, the growth of both green algae (Chlamydomonas noctigama and Chlorella vulgaris) and cyanobacteria (Anabaena variabilis and Nostoc spongiaeforme) was measured as optical density. Chlamydomonas noctigama and Chlorella vulgaris showed the doubling time of 9.5 and 8.0 hours, respectively, whereas Anabaena variabilis and Nostoc spongiaeforme showed the doubling time of 14.8 and 16.6 hours, respectively. All the species exhibited the highest growth in terms of biomass at the phase in between stationary and death phases. J. Asiat. Soc. Bangladesh, Sci. 47(2): 161-171, December 2021

There are different behaviors appropriate to the different phases of growth. This has been observed among species in nature as they go through the four seasons, but also among humans in society as different economic-growth phases succeed one another. Typically, difficult times stimulate entrepreneurship whereas prosperity nurtures conservatism. Less obviously, preoccupation with the "what" characterizes formative times whereas preoccupation with the "how" characterizes periods of maturity. A multitude of different behaviors can be mapped on the four phases of any growth cycle. On a larger scale, and to the extent that society is anthropomorphic, society as a whole goes through different behaviors while experiencing transitionsbetween cyclical phases of growth. Given a growth phase we can expect specific behaviors, and inversely, given a specific behavior we can deduce the growth phase being traversed. It follows that WWII may have been survival-driven whereas WWI greed-driven.

Abstract Ecotoxicity assessments based on bacteria as model organisms is widely used for routine toxicity screening because it has advantages of time-saving, high sensitivity, cost-effectiveness, and less ethical responsibility. Determination of ecotoxicity effect via bacterial growth can avoid the restriction of model bacteria selection and unique equipment requirement, but traditional viable cell count methods are relatively labor- and time-intensive. The Start Growth Method (SGT) is a high-throughput and time-conserving method to determine the amount of viable bacterial cells. However, its usability and stability for ecotoxicity assessment are rarely studied. This study confirmed its applicability in terms of bacterial types (gram-positive and gram-negative), growth phases (middle exponential and early stationary phases), and simultaneous existence of dead cells (adjustment by flow cytometry). Our results verified that the stability of establishing SGT correlation is independent of the bacterial type and dead-cell portion. Moreover, we only observed the effect of growth phases on the slope value of established SGT correlation in Shewanella oneidensis, which suggests that preparing inoculum for the SGT method should be consistent in keeping its stability. Our results also elucidate that the SGT values and the live cell percentages meet the non-linear exponential correlation with high correlation coefficients from 0.97 to 0.99 for all the examined bacteria. The non-linear exponential correlation facilitates the application of the SGT method on the ecotoxicity assessment. Finally, applying the exponential SGT correlation to evaluate the ecotoxicity effect of copper ions on E. coli was experimentally validated. The SGT-based method would require about 6 to 7 hours to finish the assessment and obtained an estimated EC50 at 2.27 ± 0.04 mM. This study demonstrates that the exponential SGT correlation can be a high-throughput, time-conversing, and wide-applicable method for bacterial ecotoxicity assessment.

Population trends and Internet-user trends indicate that the percentage of the population using theInternet is slowing down everywhere despite large discrepancies: 68% in the US, 45% in Europe, and 8% in therest of the world. Whereas new growth phases with slow rates of growth should be expected from the third world,the boom years of Internet explosion are over. Significant growth in the use of Internet in the rest of the world mustawait for a couple of decades.

During its development, the leaf undergoes profound metabolic changes to ensure, among other things, its growth. The subcellular metabolome of tomato leaves was studied at four stages of leaf development, with a particular emphasis on the composition of the vacuole, a major actor of cell growth. For this, leaves were collected at different positions of the plant, corresponding to different developmental stages. Coupling cytology approaches to non-aqueous cell fractionation allowed to estimate the subcellular concentrations of major compounds in the leaves. The results showed major changes in the composition of the vacuole across leaf development. Thus, sucrose underwent a strong allocation, being mostly located in the vacuole at the beginning of development and in the cytosol at maturity. Furthermore, these analyses revealed that the vacuole, rather rich in secondary metabolites and sugars in the growth phases, accumulated organic acids thereafter. This result suggests that the maintenance of the osmolarity of the vacuole of mature leaves would largely involve inorganic molecules.
