AbstractMucin-1 (MUC-1) is a transmembrane glycoprotein, which bears many similarities between dogs and humans. Since the existence of animal models is essential to understand the significant factors involved in breast cancer mechanisms, canine mammary tumors (CMTs) could be used as a spontaneously occurring tumor model for human studies. Accordingly, this review assessed the comparison of canine and human MUC-1 based on their diagnostic and therapeutic aspects and showed how comparative oncology approaches could provide insights into translating pre-clinical trials from human to veterinary oncology and vice versa which could benefit both humans and dogs.

Lacrimal gland chondroid syringoma is a very rare tumor with classic clinico-radiological symptoms that should be familiar to clinicians for appropriate patients’ management as the tumor has potential for recurrence and malignant transformation. We report herein a case of chondroid syringoma in a 35-year-old patient presenting with progressive painless proptosis for 2 years. He underwent complete surgical removal of the tumor, with subsequent clinical improvement of his symptoms.

Chondroitin syringoma, also known as cutaneous mixed tumor, is a rare type of sweat gland tumor, accounting for 0.01% to 0.1% of all primary tumors of the skin. The malignant form is extremely rare, with 41 cases described so far. It predominates in the trunk and distal extremities and affects women more frequently, with a 3: 2 rate 6,7. Patients may reach the health service with large lesions due to the fact of being slow-growing lesions and have a high rate of recurrence, requiring surgical treatment that may lead to extensive defects making complex reconstructions necessary. We present a case of malignant chondroid syringoma in an 80 years old male patient, with 29 years of evolution and unusual size. A reconstruction was performed with a muscular dorsal flap of the latissimus dorsi with good aesthetic and functional results, with no signs of recurrence after 8 months of follow-up. It is concluded that because it is a late diagnosis neoplasia, the surgical treatment ends up generating expressive defects. There for musculocutaneous should be considered as an option for reconstruction, aiming optimal functional and aesthetic restoration.

Mammary analogue secretory carcinoma is a rare salivary gland tumor that has a wide range of clinical presentation ranging from indolent, local and slowly growing tumors to a very aggressive, infiltrative and widely metastasizing forms. We report a case of an unfortunate patient whose tumor had a very quick ominous disease course with aggressive clinical and histological presentation. This case is the first case, to our knowledge, to be reported in the literature from Saudi Arabia of MASC with features of high grade transformation

Pleomorphic adenomas are benign tumour of the salivary glands that mostly affect the parotid gland. The tumor's "pleomorphic" form can be explained by its epithelial and connective tissue origins. Females between the ages of 30 and 50 are more likely to get the tumour. The tumour usually presents as asymptomatic swelling that progresses slowly. The majority of treatment is surgical removal of the tumour mass, with special attention paid to preserving the facial nerve. This is a case report of a 42-year-old female patient who had a pleomorphic adenoma of the submandibular gland. On the right side of the face, the patient had a slowly growing asymptomatic swelling. Pleomorphic adenoma is the commonest salivary gland tumor characterized by  diverse  histomorphological  features.  Early diagnosis and treatment plan entails thorough history taking, clinical examination, coupled with radiographic and histopathological findings.

: Sialoblastoma is a rare salivary gland tumor, diagnosed in the neonatal period or during infancy. Hepatoblastoma accounts for less than 1% of all pediatric malignancies. The co-occurrence of these two tumors is extremely uncommon. Here, we report a case of concurrent sialoblastoma and hepatoblastoma in an infant.

Background: The parotid glands are the largest salivary glands in humans and are frequently involved in various primary & systemic disease processes. The most common benign parotid gland tumor is pleomorphic adenoma. Around 20% of parotid tumors are malignant with most common parotid tumors being mucoepidermoid carcinoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma. Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of pulsed and color Doppler for the evaluation of parotid gland cancer.   Methods: It was a cross sectional study by design carried out in Department of Radiology and Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Mayo Hospital – Lahore in a duration of three year. All the patients were examined with mind-ray 7.5 MHz linear transducer. There are three methods used collectively; Grey Scale, color Doppler and Pulsed Doppler in sonographic examination. Color Doppler and pulsed Doppler demonstrate number of blood vessels within the tumor, their Peak Systolic Velocity and Resistive Index respectively. Histo-pathological results were correlated post operatively with the data obtained from Doppler ultrasound. Data was analyzed using SPSS 23.0   Results: In this study, 192 patients were included .The mean age was 39.42 ± 11.93 years. 58.85% (112) were male patients and 41.15 %( 80) patients were females. The solid masses with regular margins were evaluated and the diagnostic accuracy of pulsed Doppler was found to be 87.5% taking histopathology as gold standard.   Conclusion: This study shows pulsed Doppler to be more accurate tool for diagnosis of parotid gland tumor as compared to color Doppler taking histopathology as gold standard.
