Piezoelectric stick-slip actuators (PSSAs) are famous for ultimate working condition adaptability, simple structure, and positioning accuracy. To meet the demand of industrial application, lots of PSSAs designed with flexure hinge mechanisms (FHMs-PSSAs) have been developed to realize the requirements of translational motion, rotational motion, multi-degree-of-freedom (multi-DOF) motion. The output performance of the FHMs-PSSAs has been greatly improved, including load capacity, speed, and accuracy; moreover, some approaches to solve the problem of the backward motion are provided as well. In this work, the working principle of FHMs-PSSAs is introduced, and the excitation signals applicable to FHMs-PSSAs are summarized. Based on the current research and development status, the progress of structure design of FHMs-PSSAs is introduced in accordance with translatory FHMs-PSSAs, rotary FHMs-PSSAs, and multi-DOF FHMs-PSSAs. Additionally, the developed analysis methods and design schemes to improve the performance are introduced, including theoretical analysis methods, consistency scheme of forward and reverse performance, suppression scheme of the backward motion, and improvement scheme of positioning accuracy. The significance of this work can be regarded as a further supplement to the previous review articles on the PSSAs, which will provide a reference and guidance for the future development of FHMs-PSSAs.

The steering arm has recently been frequently broken in a kind of mining truck with Macpherson suspension. To accelerate replacing the broken parts and minimize the economic cost, a fast calculation method for improving the steering arm is proposed in this paper. In this method, the forces on the steering arm are calculated by quasi-static analysis under a low vehicle velocity. Dynamic characteristics of the tire and road are partly included by considering the ranges of the rolling resistance coefficient and friction coefficient from the empirical values, which determines the torque on the steering arm under extreme conditions. The rigid–flexible coupling model for the left steering mechanism in ANSYS Workbench is established and solved to obtain the distribution stress on the steering arm under extreme conditions. Then, the reliability of the simulation results based on this fast calculation method is verified by the experiment. After determining an improvement scheme considering the economic and time cost, the satisfactory strength is obtained. The results illustrate that the strength of the improved steering arm has nearly doubled. Finally, the effectiveness of the improved steering arm is demonstrated by the users’ feedback after it is manufactured, installed, and used.

Dry-type joints are an advanced type of sustainable beam-column connection mode used in the prefabricated concrete frame structural system. This paper proposed an improvement scheme for high-strength bolt dry-type joints and designed a new type of common bolt dry-type joints. A pseudo test involving low-cycle repeated loading is conducted to assess the seismic resistance properties of new joints including damage mode, hysteretic curve, skeleton curve, and ductility factor. Numerical simulation is applied to validate the rationality of experimental results. It is found that when the bending capacity of the end block of the beam is consistent with that of the bolt, the deformation of the bolt will no longer increase greatly after a period of large deformation; at this period, the bolt does not fully enter the plastic stage, but at this time, the end block of the beam begins to appear large cracks and enter the plastic deformation and has good energy dissipation performance.

National financial incentive schemes for improving the quality of primary care have come under criticism in the United Kingdom, leading to calls for localized alternatives. This study investigated whether a local general practice incentive-based quality improvement scheme launched in 2011 in a city in the North West of England was associated with a reduction in all-cause emergency hospital admissions. Difference-in-differences analysis was used to compare the change in emergency admission rates in the intervention city, to the change in a matched comparison population. Emergency admissions rates fell by 19 per 1,000 people in the years following the intervention (95% confidence interval [17, 21]) in the intervention city, relative to the comparison population. This effect was greater among more disadvantaged populations, narrowing socioeconomic inequalities in emergency admissions. The findings suggest that similar approaches could be an effective component of strategies to reduce unplanned hospital admissions elsewhere.
