The Alternative DSM-5 Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD) retains six specific personality disorders (PDs) that can be diagnosed based on Criterion A level of impairment and Criterion B maladaptive facets. Those specific diagnoses are still underresearched, despite the preference expressed by most PD scholars for a mixed/hybrid classification. This study explores the possibility of using Criterion A and B self-report questionnaires to extract the specific AMPD diagnoses. Plausible prevalence estimates were found in three samples (outpatient PD, private practice, community; N = 766) using the facet score > 2 and t score > 65 methods for determining the presence of a Criterion B facet; diagnoses had meaningful correlations with external variables. This study provides evidence—albeit preliminary—that the extraction of the specific AMPD PDs from self-report questionnaires might be a viable avenue. Ultimately, it could promote the use and dissemination of those diagnoses for screening purposes in clinical and research settings.

Background: Circumferential trabeculotomy have evolved from ab externo to ab interno approach. Both procedures may lower IOP, but it is unclear which maybe a superior approach.Purpose: To compare the outcomes of ab interno and ab externo circumferential trabeculotomy in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma.Design: Retrospective, comparative case series.Participants: Primary open angle glaucoma patients undergoing ab interno (40 patients in Group 1) or ab externo (54 patients in Group 2) circumferential trabeculotomy, with about one half of them having prior incisional glaucoma surgery. Methods: Outcomes including intraocular pressure (IOP), glaucoma medications and surgical complications were analyzed.Main Outcome Measures: IOP, medications and surgical success defined as an IOP of ≤ 21 mmHg and a reduction of IOP ≥20% from baseline (criterion A) or IOP ≤ 18 mmHg and a reduction of IOP 20% from baseline (criterion B) with (qualified success) or without (complete success) medications. Results: At 1 year, IOP decreased by 37.1% (26.0–14.8 mmHg) in Group 1 and 39.5% (28.5–15.1 mmHg) in Group 2. Medications decreased from 3.5 in Group 1 and 3.6 in Group 2 pre-operatively to 0.6 ± 1.0 and 0.3 ± 0.6 post-operatively, respectively. Success rates did not differ significantly between groups based on criterion A (complete and qualified success: 68.7 and 81.9% in Group 1, and 75.3 and 90.4% in Group 2, respectively) or criterion B (complete and qualified success: 58.2 and 79.3%in Group 1, and 69.5 and 88.4% in Group 2, respectively). For eyes with prior filtration surgeries, the mean percent reduction of IOP (41.7 ± 32.7% in Group 1, 39.7 ± 27.8% in Group 2, P = 0.724) and the mean medication reduction (2.9 ± 1.6 in Group 1, 3.4 ± 1.0 in Group 2, P = 0.454) were not significantly different. Conclusions: Ab interno circumferential trabeculotomy achieved comparable outcomes to ab externo trabeculotomy and may be an effective surgical option for patients with primary open-angle glaucoma.

The Alternative Model of Personality Disorders distinguishes between the severity of personality dysfunction (Criterion A) and individual differences in personality disorder expression (Criterion B). Several Criterion A measures exist, but few studies have compared these measures with each other. Moreover, debates about whether the constructs of Criteria A and B are redundant (i.e., weak incremental validity) should be framed around how different Criterion A measures perform relative to others. This study of 204 undergraduate students evaluated multiple measures of Criterion A. These measures were strongly correlated with Criterion B, but evidenced incremental validity (39% of outcomes, 5% average additional variance explained) with outcomes of psychopathology and interpersonal impairments, and less consistent incremental validity with suicidality, aggression, and mental health utilization. We discuss how these results inform the construct of Criterion A relative to Criterion B and evaluate strengths/weaknesses of Criterion A measures.

Scientists are paying more and more attention to such expressive-syntactic constructions as joining and parcelling. The analysis of scientific works shows that the linguistic status of connecting structures is interpreted ambiguously. To distinguish between affiliation and parcelling, researchers usually propose two criteria: structural-semantic and formal. According to the first criterion, connecting structures are included in the main offer, and parceled structures are outside of it. According to the second criterion, a connection is considered to be such a structure that has special connection markers in the form of unions, union words, etc. Both criteria, in our opinion, do not allow us to unambiguously distinguish between connecting and parcelled structures. During the formation and development of the theory of connection and connecting structure, the works of academicians L.V. Shcherba, V.V. Vinogradov. In particular, the article by Professor E.S. Kryuchkova On connecting ties in the modern Russian language, which for many years has shaped the views on accession and influenced the opinions of more than one generation of linguists. However, the emergence of the theory of parcelling could not but affect the theory of the connecting structure: several types of connection were distinguished, the structure began to be considered against the background of parcelling, difficulties arose in distinguishing between connecting and parcelled structures. This article analyzes special works devoted to the connecting structure, more precisely, those studies, the authors of which ignore parcelling. However, there are other views of scientists on the connecting structure, one of the types of which we conditionally attributed to the second type of connection. This variety will be the subject of our further research.

A geotechnical study based on characterization tests and seventy incremental loading onedimensional consolidation tests was carried out on high-quality undisturbed samples taken from Santos Harbor Channel subsoil near to Barnabé Island, where a pilot embankment was built. The characterization profiles revealed a stratigraphy following the pattern described by Massad (2009), with a 9 m-thick fluvial-lagoon-bay sediments (SFL) clay layer. The consolidation tests were performed following two loading criteria. In criterion A (series one tests), a new loading was applied whenever the strain rate (ε) reached 10-6 s-1, the highest integer power of 10 after the “end of primary” consolidation for double drained 2 cm-thick specimens. In criterion B (series two tests), the standard procedure of 24 hour-long stages was adopted. Criterion A reduced the total duration of the consolidation tests from ten to about three days. The preconsolidation (yield) stress (σ’p) and the compressibility parameters Cc and Cr obtained from “e versus σ’v (log)” compression curves of all tests are provided. Series two tests showed that the 24-hour “e versus σ’v (log)” compression curves are translated to the left of the ε = 10-6 s-1 “e versus σ’v (log)” compression curves, keeping Cr and Cc average values unchanged, but decreasing σ’p by about 8%. The SFL clay Cc/(1+e0) values obtained herein are higher than those presented by Massad (2009) due to the higher-quality samples tested in this study. It is shown that it is feasible to carry out a high-quality laboratory test program for design purposes following current standards.

The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) instruments are frequently used to assess personality and psychopathology. Recent publications of personality disorder (PD) spectra scales for dimensionalized PD syndromes with MMPI instruments may advance PD assessment. To this end, we examined MMPI-Second Edition (2) and MMPI-2-Restructured Form (-RF) PD Spectra scales within the lens of a contemporary dimensional model of PDs, the alternative model for personality disorders (AMPD). The core dimension of PD, Criterion A of the AMPD or level of personality functioning (LPF), was characterized quantitatively within the PD Spectra scales. By sequentially factor analyzing the scales of the Severity Indices of Personality Problems (SIPP-118) to a common general factor of PD, an index of LPF external to the MMPI item pool was established. This LPF dimension was strongly represented across most PD Spectra scales. LPF variances within the PD Spectra scales were deconstructed using measures of general demoralization (RCdemoralization) and maladaptive personality traits indexed by the Personality Psychopathology-5 (PSY-5). Nuanced LPF and PD Spectra scale relationships were discerned. Dimensionalized Antisocial PD, Borderline PD, Dependent PD, and Paranoid PD showed meaningful association with LPF after demoralization, and maladaptive trait variances were removed. The examination of the MMPI-3 item pool reveals that the existing PD Spectra scale item sets are largely carried forward in the new edition of the MMPI. This suggests PD Spectra scale correlates, including LPF relationships, may be discernable in the newest edition of the MMPI, pending future study.

We investigated pandemic-related stress symptoms during the first COVID-19 lockdown period in spring 2020 among parents of adolescents that were 11 to 13 years old in the study period. We also investigated whether parental stress symptoms were associated with family situation and family activities during lockdown. Altogether 147 couples reported about their own trauma-related stress symptoms following the outbreak of the pandemic. Among the respondents, 9.5% of the mothers and 10.2% of the fathers had scores over cutoff on the screener (IES-6) measuring stress symptoms, a non-significant gender difference. Scores on the screener were not associated with family contamination or lockdown consequences. Family activities during lockdown did not impact the pandemic stress symptom levels. Whereas, the experience of the COVID-19 pandemic pose a stressor to most people, it is unlikely to be a criterion A event for other than directly affected families.
