Cyclamate is an artificial sweetener that is often added to drinks and food. In trade, cyclamate is known by the trade names assugrin, sucaryl, sucrose or sarimanis. The negative effects caused by sodium cyclamate are not immediate, it may have to wait two or thirty years later. The effects include increasing the potential for obesity, dental disorders, learning disorders, emotions, and mental health. testicular wasting and chromosomal damage. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence or absence of cyclamate content in cendol ice. The examination was carried out at the Amami Chemistry Laboratory, Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health, Medan, Department of Health Analyst using a qualitative test, namely the color test (deposition) with a total sample of 7 samples taken from cendol ice drink traders. Based on the qualitative test results obtained from 7 samples, 4 positive samples contained cyclamate. By knowing the presence of cyclamate content, it is hoped that producers will use food additives that do not have a negative effect on consumer health. Based on the Minister of Health Regulation No. 033/2012 artificial sweeteners are only intended for low-energy products or for people with diabetes mellitus and not for general let alone especially for children

Background and Objectives: The color vision evaluation of gas station workers in Isfahan City. Methods: This cross-sectional comparative study was performed on workers at gas stations in Isfahan; all the workers were men. The participants were divided into two 40-people groups of exposure and non-exposure (the members of the fuel sales department). The participants had better vision than 8/10 and no underlying problems or eye disease. Besides, examination, including color vision was performed for all subjects. Color vision was assessed using the D15 test under high to medium light conditions. Also, the color vision test was performed monocularly. Then, the obtained data were analyzed using SPSS V. 22. Results: The two study groups significantly differed in terms of color vision impairment index (P <0.001). Also, more color vision defects were seen in the group exposed to gasoline. The color confusion index (as the indicator of color vision defects) were 1.485 and 1.129 in exposure and non-exposure to gasoline groups, respectively. Thus, color vision defects were significantly higher in the exposure to gasoline group, compared with the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study showed a difference in color vision index between the two groups. Therefore, long-term exposure to organic solvents, such as gasoline in fuel stations may cause color vision loss.

Purpose. To analyze changes in binocular vision functions in patients with acutely acquired esotropia after preoperative correction by prisms. Material and methods. The study included 16 patients with acutely acquired esotropia with diplopia. Depending on the tactics of preoperative case management, two groups were distinguished. Eight patients with acutely acquired esotropia of the Bielshowsky type at the age from 12 to 35 years old (mean age, M±sd – 17.5±1.9 years). This group underwent preoperative prismatic correction of diplopia and the deviation angle, as well as eight patients with acutely acquired esotropia of the Bielshowsky type at the age from 12 to 35 years (18.5±1.9 years). Patients in this group underwent surgery without prior prismatic correction. Fresnel prisms were used to select and assign prismatic correction. The patients were monitored dynamically. Results. In the course of treatment 1 group (prismatic correction followed by surgical correction) according to the indicator of Worth's four-dot test color test, revealed a statistically significant increase in the frequency of value of the binocular single vision (p=0.041), the frequency of the presence of stereovision according to the Fly-test (p=0.013), fusion amplitude in the distance by 1.11 times (p=0.033) and near fusion amplitude by 1.15 times (p=0.003). Significant differences between the groups were observed only in the frequency of stereovision presence according to the Fly-test after treatment, which was 2.0 times higher in group 1 (p=0.041). Conclusion. Prismatic correction in combination with surgical treatment had better curative benefits than surgery itself in improving both binocular and stereoscopic visual functions. Key words: acutely acquired esotropia, diplopia, binocular vision, stereoscopic vision, Fresnel prisms

Purpose: We report a case of multiple sclerosis with bilateral optic neuritis that was atypical in terms of both the clinical signs and symptoms.Case summary: A 34-year-old female visited the department of neurology with a complaint of sudden-onset, left lower extremity weakness and numbness that had developed 3 weeks prior, and bilateral blurred vision that had commenced 2 weeks prior. The patient was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and prescribed high-dose intravenous methylprednisolone for 3 days, but the blurred vision did not improve. The patient was referred to the ophthalmology department. The initial best-corrected visual acuity was 0.04 in both eyes, and the relative afferent pupillary defect test was positive for the left eye. The Ishihara color test scores were 1/17 for both eyes. No optic disc swelling was evident on fundus examination. Brain and spine magnetic resonance imaging (T2-weighted) performed during the initial visit revealed lesions of high signal intensity in the frontal, subcortical white matter; the optic chiasm; the left retrobulbar optic segment; the medulla; and the spinal C2-5 processes. Aquaproin-4 immunogloblin G antibody (AQP4-IgG Ab) was not detected in serum. One month after prescription of the oral steroid, the vision improved to 1.0 in the right and 0.8 in the left eye. The patient was lost to follow-up after prescription of interferon-beta for 4 years, without recurrence. Conclusions: Binocular optic neuritis accompanied by severe visual loss is a rare form of multiple sclerosis. A thorough diagnosis (with a focus on exclusion) is required, as is appropriate treatment.

Purpose To evaluate the age-related change in color visual acuity (CVA) in normal eyes. Methods In total, 162 normal eyes (162 subjects, women: 52, men: 110, age range: 15–68 years) with best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) ≥20/13 were enrolled. Fifteen colors from the New Color Test (chroma 6) were applied to Landolt “C” rings, white point D65 was applied as background, and a luminance of 30 cd/m2 was set for both the rings and the background. These rings were used to measure the chromatic spatial discrimination acuity as the CVA value, while changing the stimulus size. Correlations of the CVA value of each color and age were evaluated. Mean CVA values of all 15 colors (logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution) were compared between age groups in 10-year increments. Results Nine CVA values (red, yellow-red, red-yellow, green, blue-green, green-blue, purple, red-purple, and purple-red) were negatively correlated with age (all p<0.05); the remaining six (yellow, green-yellow, yellow-green, blue, purple-blue, and blue-purple), as well as BCVA were not. The age groups with the best to worst mean CVA values of 15 colors were as follows: 20–29 (mean ± standard deviation, 0.303 ± 0.113), 30–39 (0.324 ± 0.096), 10–19 (0.333 ± 0.022), 50–59 (0.335 ± 0.078), 40–49 (0.339 ± 0.096), and 60–69 (0.379 ± 0.125) years. There were statistically significant differences between mean CVA values of the following groups: 20–29 and 40–49 years; 20–29 and 60–69 years; 30–39 and 60–69 years (all p<0.01). Conclusions The CVA values related to the medium/long-wavelength-sensitive cones were more susceptible to aging than those related to the short-wavelength-sensitive cones. This differed from previous reports, and may be related to the difference in the range of foveal cone function evaluated with each examination.
