Geriatric population (> 60 years) is rapidly increasing in India, It has been increased upto 8.6% in 2011. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder and a major health problem, a?ecting a large section of the Indian population, especially as its incidence increases with advancing age. Host of complications are associated with this disease, one of which is the e?ect on platelet count.  This study compares platelet count between diabetic and non-diabetic elderly.  It is observed that Hyperglycaemia in diabetic persons is responsible for increased Thrombopoietin production at the cellular level, which leads to raised platelet count -Reticulated Thrombocytosis – when compared to non diabetics. Platelets, especiallyreticulated thrombocytes are associated with uncontrolled blood sugar levels in the body and are well known for their role in artherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). Urolithiasis has become more prevalent in recent years, given the rapid rise of the global geriatric population. Although factors such as ethnicity, dietary and fluid intake, co-morbidity status and age have been associated with increased incidence of urolithiasis, the links between frailty status and risks of developing urolithiasis are not yet known. In this commentary, we will explore the scale and significance of this relationship based on emerging evidence. We will review the plausible factors on how a more severe frailty status may be significantly associated with greater risks of developing urolithiasis. We will also discuss the strategies that may help to lower the incidence of urolithiasis in older and frail individuals. We hope our article will bring greater awareness on this issue and motivate further research initiatives evaluating the relationship between frailty and urolithiasis, as well as holistic prevention strategies to lower the risks of developing urolithiasis within this vulnerable population.

Inappropriate intake of medications can increase the risk of many morbidities and mortality among the geriatric population. Therefore, assessment of drug underuse, overuse, and inappropriate use has been an area of interest across the different investigations, and according to which, different screening tools were developed to identify these problems and enhance the quality of care to these patients. In the present study, we aim comprehensively discuss the different types of currently reported screening tools that can identify potentially inappropriate medication in the geriatric population. Studies show that assess, review, minimize, optimize, reassess (ARMOR), and medication appropriateness index (MAI) tools are the most commonly reported for this purpose to appropriately evaluate drug administration practices. However, they are time-consuming and need adequately trained personnel, which might not be available within the different settings. Accordingly, we suggest that more than one tool should be used, as we have reviewed all the advantages and disadvantages of the modality within the current study, to adequately facilitate and make the process of evaluation easy and enhance the quality of care for the geriatric population.
