<div> <div> <div> <p>Advocacy is an integral part of child and youth care workers’ roles and a significant component of child and youth care politicized praxis and radical youth work. Drawing from the qualitative data of a mixed-methods study conducted in 2019 at a Canadian metropolitan university, this study seeks to unpack how the pedagogy of the lightning talk can foster advocacy skills to effectively and spontaneously speak out with and on behalf of children, youth, and families in everyday practice when an unforeseen systemic challenge or barrier arises. A purposive sample of 70 undergraduate students was recruited in two child and youth care courses, both of which required students to present a lightning talk. Participants completed an online questionnaire with closed-ended and open-ended questions in order to share their perspectives of the pedagogy of the lightning talk. The findings show that the lightning talk fosters twenty-first century and metacognitive skills and, most importantly, advocacy skills. </p> </div> </div> </div>

Contemporary educational approaches which enculturate higher order thinking skills (HOTSs) through teaching and learning have become the latest trend in teaching. Knowledge clarity, understanding mastery, and teaching readiness are the catalysts for successfully implementing HOTS elements in teaching. However, even though HOTS learning is inextricably linked to metacognitive skills, teachers frequently underutilize metacognitive skills as an effective method of teaching HOTSs. Therefore, teachers face difficulties regarding their skills in integrating HOTSs into their teaching. Numerous studies on HOTS teaching and learning modules to guide teachers in applying these have been conducted; however, only a few researchers have conducted systematic literature reviews on the same subject. This article aims to produce a systematic literature review on the elements of a metacognition-based HOTSs teaching and learning module. The systematic literature review (SLR) writing process was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis) framework. Using 2 databases, namely, Web of Sciences (WoS) and Scopus, 15 articles were extracted out of 252, from 2017 to 2021, with exclusion and inclusion criteria taken into consideration. Based on the study’s thematic analysis, 3 main themes were identified: (1) HOTS, (2) metacognitive, and (3) inquiry. This study suggests that these three elements should be included in the contribution element of metacognition-based HOTSs teaching modules in school. This study contributes knowledge and guidelines to the construction of metacognition-based HOTSs teaching modules in schools, teachers’ preparedness to plan, monitor, and evaluate students’ higher order thinking skills, and opportunities for students to learn through HOTSs learning elements, as suggested in metacognition-based HOTS teaching modules.

The paper discusses the socio-communicative function of the engineer’s foreign language training in which content is based on materials relating to the latest global technological advances and understanding of the essence of production culture in different countries. It discusses the structure and content of foreign language training taking into account the potential of multilingualism, technical communication and metalinguistic competence. Foreign language training contributes to the formation of linguistic, communicative and metacognitive skills. It sets out the modern international requirements in an engineering university, identifies the contradictions and features of pedagogical forms, methods and tools, and sets out the content and structure of multilingualism, technical communication and metalinguistic competence. A methodology for the implementation of foreign language training in combination with multilingualism, technical communication and metalinguistic competence is proposed and proved through the realization of group international study trips. Here, the students showed an understanding of technologies in foreign languages and a metalinguistic awareness focusing on the cultural traditions of the region and local features of production. The article argues for a conscious approach to deeper linguistic knowledge, cultures of different countries and technologies with advanced language and communications requirements in the field of science and technology, combining linguistic and engineering thinking in the human mind for a more complete understanding of the essence and content of engineering education.

This study was conducted while using the Quasi-Experimental design to examine the effect of Cooperative learning on prospective teachers' Meta cognitive skills. The sample for this study included two sections/ groups, each comprising 40 students (40 males 40 females=80) enrolled in the fifth Semester of the B.Ed Honors program in a public university. One of the sections was declared as the Experimental, whereas the other as the Controlled group. The understudy sections were pre-tested, and then the experimental group was exposed to the intervention (cooperative learning strategy), which lasted for one Semester. Both sections were post-tested after the completion of the intervention. Meta cognitive Skills Assessment Tool (MSAT) was used for pre and post-test. Based on the results, it is concluded that Cooperative Learning helps develop Meta cognitive skills in prospective teachers. Therefore, it is recommended that the teachers should teach while using the Cooperative learning approach.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran inquiry terintegrasi laboratorium virtual terhadap pemahaman konsep dan keterampilan metakognitif siswa. Quasi eksperimen dengan nonequivalent control group design digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 56 siswa yang terbagi ke dalam 2 (dua) kelas parallel yang dipilih menggunakan cluster random sampling technique. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes pemahaman konsep dan instrumen lembar penilaian (LP) keterampilan metakognitif yangtelah dinyatakan valid dan reliabel. Data penelitian dianalisis secara deskriptif menggunakan persamaan n-gain dan statistic dengan bantuan software IBM SPSS 23 Version. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman konsep siswa pada kelompok eksperimen (mean= 79,19; n-gain= 0,76 dengan kategori tinggi) lebih baik dari kelompok kontrol (mean= 43,08; n-gain= 0,36 dengan kategori sedang) dan berbeda secara signifikan (p < 0.05). Keterampilan metakognitif siswa menunjukkan hal serupa, kelompok eksperimen (pertemuan I= 54,69 (pertemuan II= 67,86; pertemuan III= 79,24) ditemukan lebih baik dari kelompok control (pertemuan I= 46,09; pertemuan II= 53,01; dan pertemuan III= 55,13). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan model pembelajaran inquiry terbimbing terintegrasi laboratorium virtual efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dan keterampilan metakognitif siswa dalam pembelajaran kimia materi larutan penyangga. Virtual Laboratory Integrated Guided Inquiry Learning Model to Improve Students' Concept Understanding and Metacognitive Skills Abstract This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the virtual laboratory integrated guided-inquiry learning model on students' concept understanding and metacognitive skills. Quasi experimental with nonequivalent control group design was used in this study. The sample of this study was 56 students who were divided into 2 (two) parallel classes which were selected using the cluster random sampling technique. The instruments used were in the form of a concept understanding test and a metacognitive skill assessment sheet (LP) which had been declared valid and reliable. The research data were analyzed descriptively using the n-gain equation and statisticaly with the help of IBM SPSS 23 Version software. The results showed that students' concept understanding in the experimental group (mean = 79.19; n-gain = 0.76 in the high category) was better than the control group (mean = 43.08; n-gain = 0.36 in the medium category) and significantly different (p < 0.05). Students’ Metacognitive skills showed the same thing, the experimental group (meeting I = 54.69; meeting II = 67.86; meeting III = 79.24) was found to be better than the control group (meeting I = 46.09; meeting II = 53, 01, and meeting III = 55.13). The results showed that the virtual laboratory integrated guided-inquiry learning model was effective in improving students’ concept understanding and metacognitive skills in buffer solution chemistry learning subject.

This research aims to know validity of thermochemistry suplement book based problem solving to train students metacognitive skills includes the content and construct. Content validity includes the suitability of the material and questions. Construct validity includes presentation and readability techniques. Problem solving model has 4 steps, that are understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and lock back. Metacognitive skills consist of 3 components, namely planning, monitoring, and evaluating. The type of research used is the Research and Development (R&D) from Sugiyono. The supplement book was assessed by 3 experts in the field of chemical education using a validation instrument. The results showed that a chemical supplement book based on problem solving to train students' metacognitive skills on thermochemical material was very good with a score of 91.6% in content validation and 84.9% in construct validation.

In the context of modern digital transformation of all aspects of the socioeconomic environment, training university students for analytical processing of increasing inflows of data and dealing with complex cognitive tasks driven by metacognition has become of particular importance. The research is aimed to review the structure of metacognitive processing, the development factors of metacognitive skills, the relation of metacognitive skills to emotional and cognitive skills, and to determine their role in the achievement of academic success of university students. Methodology. The research is undertaken on the basis of theoretical investigation and comprehensive analysis of theoretical conceptualization of intelligence. The authors have researched the derivation of metacognition, the structure of self-regulating metacognitive processes and their interaction with cognitive and affective processes. The research findings confirm that the metacognitive experience provides self-reflection, emotional awareness of feelings, estimating relationships between emotional states and the degree of implementation or attainability of a cognitive task. The authors conclude that emotional intelligence is manifested in metacognitive skills and predicts academic success. Also, teaching and learning strategies are required to be refined taking into account the development of emotional and metacognitive skills of university students.

Τhe purpose of this article is to investigate how metacognition supports giftedness in leadership. The concepts of metacognition, giftedness and leadership seem to be interrelated. The article attempts to explore new trends in understanding and development of giftedness. Research has shown that the concept of metacognition is inextricably linked to the concept of giftedness. Metacognition has an important role in the development of individuals, because it helps them to improve their cognitive and metacognitive skills. Metacognitive skills such as monitoring, self-regulation, awareness are higher skills that gifted individuals process to  a high degree and through training can improve them even further. Moreover, the metacognitive skills of monitoring and adaptation can affect leadership skills. The metacognitive skills that are associated with leadership are self-awareness, regulation and monitoring. Therefore, if leadership is based on consciousness and giftedness then we will have higher leadership skills.
