A systemic study was done on the pathogenesis of experimentally induced Salmonella typhimurium infection in calves. The present investigation was carried out on sixteen normal colostrum fed friesian calves, ranging in age from 3 to 6 weeks. The calves were divided into two equal groups. Group I inoculated orally with (1.5 x 10'') Salmonella typhimurium and group IA served as control.  • The early ultrastructural alteration in the mesenteric lymph nodes was the presence of many free Salmonella in localized vacuoles. The interaction between the host cells and phagocytized Salmonella was also observed.

A trial was conducted to study the effects of probiotic (Miaclost) supplement on experimentally induced hypocalcemic rickets in broiler chicks, a total of 180 one-day-old broiler chicks (Ross 308) were randomly divided into three equal groups 60 chicks per group with 3 replicates (20 birds /replicate) the dietary treatments consisted of a normal ration for G1, calcium-deficient ration 5% for G2 and calcium-deficient ration with addition of probiotics in drinking water for G3.Initial signs of rickets have been observed at 35-day of age in G2.while, in G1 and G3 no clinical signs observed, the gross lesions appeared enlargement of parathyroid gland, costochondral junction and increase in the width of growth plate of tibial bone of G2 whereas no gross lesions recorded in G1 and G3, the histopathological examination of parathyroid gland in G2 there were a focal parathyroid hyperplasia and increasing in numbers of syncytial cells and normal in G1 and G3, no intestinal histopathological changes in G1 and G2 and increase in height and width of the intestinal villi  in probiotic group G3. Marked increase in the thickness of proliferation zone within growth plate of tibia bone in G2 and normal thickness in G1 and G3. the serum biochemical analysis of calcium of G2 recorded significantly low level in G2 and high level in G3  comparatively with G1, finally the serum alkaline phosphatase values were high significantly in G2 and normal in G3, it is concluded that probiotic (MiaClost) can be used as prophylaxis to prevent hypocalcemic rickets in broiler chicks

Abstract Pleuritic chest pain from bacterial pneumonia is often reported in human medicine. However, studies investigating pain associated with bovine respiratory disease (BRD) are lacking. The objectives of this study were to assess if bacterial pneumonia elicits a pain response in calves with experimentally induced BRD and to determine the analgesic effects of transdermally administered flunixin. Twenty-six calves, 6-7 months of age, with no history of BRD were enrolled into 1 of 3 treatment groups: (1) experimentally induced BRD + transdermal flunixin at 3.3 mg/kg twice, 24 h apart (BRD + FTD); (2) experimentally induced BRD + placebo (BRD + PLBO); and (3) sham induction + placebo (CNTL + PLBO). Calves induced with BRD were inoculated with Mannheimia haemolytica via bronchoalveolar lavage. Outcomes were collected from -48 to 192 hours post-treatment and included serum cortisol; infrared thermography; mechanical nociceptive threshold; substance P; kinematic gait analysis; visual analog scale (VAS); clinical illness score; computerized lung score; average activity and rumination level; prostaglandin E2 metabolite; plasma serum amyloid A and rectal temperature. Outcomes were evaluated using either a generalized logistic mixed model for categorical variables or a generalized linear mixed model for continuous variables. Right front force differed by treatment (P = 0.01). The BRD + PLBO had lower mean force applied to the right front limb (85.5 kg) compared to BRD + FTD (96.5 kg) (P < 0.01). Average VAS differed by a treatment by time interaction (P = 0.01). The VAS scores differed for BRD + PLBO at -48 (3.49 mm) compared to 168 and 192 h (13.49 and 13.64 mm, respectively) (P < 0.01). Activity for BRD + PLBO was higher at -48 h (27 min/h) compared to 48, 72, 120 and 168 h (≤ 22.24 min/h) (P < 0.01). Activity differed by a treatment by time interaction (P = 0.01). Activity for BRD + FTD was higher at -48 and 0 h (28.2 and 28.2 min/h, respectively) compared to 48, 72, 96 and 168 h (≤ 23.7 min/h) (P < 0.01). Results show a combination of reduced activity levels, decreased force on the right front limb, and increased visual analog scale pain scores all support that bacterial pneumonia in cattle is painful. Differences in right front force indicate that flunixin transdermal may attenuate certain pain biomarkers in cattle with BRD. These findings suggest that BRD is painful and analgesic drugs may improve the humane aspects of care for cattle with BRD.

Background: Parkinson's illness has been proclaimed as the second most neurodegenerative problem on the planet. Ganoderma lucidum is considered as a genuine restorative mushroom. Aim: Our study was directed to assess the antiparkinsonian action of Ganoderma lucidum in rotenone-incited Parkinson’s disease in male Wistar rodents. Methods: The impacts of Ganoderma lucidum were concentrated on catalepsy, muscle rigidity. Results: Ganoderma lucidum fundamentally decreased the expanded length of catalepsy. Rotenone essentially initiated the disturbance of motor neurons as demonstrated by muscle rigidity of muscles and decreased locomotion. Ganoderma lucidum alleviated the disturbance of motor neurons by rotarod execution and locomotor action of the creatures. The exercises of cell reinforcement proteins catalase and superoxide dismutase, and the level of tripeptide glutathione were essentially diminished by rotenone. Besides, rotenone extended the level of lipid peroxidation thing malondialdehyde. Notwithstanding, Ganoderma lucidum supplementation to rotenone-infused rats essentially extended the degrees of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione, and diminished the level of malondialdehyde Conclusion: Our study firmly supports the notion that Ganoderma lucidum has neuroprotective and antiparkinsonian action.
