The Materiality of Middle English Anchoritic Devotion

Anchorites and their texts, such as <i>Ancrene Wisse</i>, have recently undergone a reevaluation based on material circumstances, not just theological import. The articles here address a variety of anchoritic or anchoritic-adjacent texts, encompassing guidance literature, hagiographies, miracle narratives, medical discourse, and mystic prose, and spanning in date from the eighth through the fourteenth centuries. Exploring reclusion and materiality, the collection addresses a series of overlapping themes, including the importance of touch, the limits of religious authority, and the role of the senses. Objects, metaphorical and real, embodied and spiritual, populate the pages. These categories are permeable, with flexible and porous boundaries, demonstrating the conflation of ideas, concepts, and manifestations in medieval materiality. In fact, the permeability of these categories demonstrates how materiality can reshape our approach to medieval texts. It leaves room for directions for future study, including the application of material analysis to previously unstudied objects, spaces, and literary artifacts.

La représentation de la polysémie et des termes complexes de type locution faible dans une base de données terminologique

We propose to identify, for the French language, the senses and subsenses of travail in the field of international commerce. We also intend to present the main weak idioms containing this form, from a corpus that has been constituted ex novo in the framework of the DIACOM-fr project (Department of Foreign Languages, University of Verona), part of the Excellence Project “Le Digital Humanities applicate alle lingue e letterature straniere” (“Digital Humanities applied to foreign modern languages and literatures”). The senses and subsenses as well as the weak idioms, classified on the basis of a number of semantic labels, will be represented in a draft of terminological network.

“LABIOS MÍOS TEMBLANDO, DEL PRECIOSO REGALO DE TU MANO, TIÑÉNDOSE”: LA HUELLA DE PABLO GARCÍA BAENA EN EL DEVOCIONARIO DE ANA ROSSETTI

Este ensayo pretende evidenciar el magisterio que Pablo García Baena (Córdoba, 1921 – Córdoba, 2018), miembro fundador del grupo Cántico de Córdoba, ejerció en la obra poética de la escritora Ana Rossetti (San Fernando, 1950), particularmente en su poemario Devocionario (1986). Con este fin se lleva a cabo un análisis minucioso de la obra lírica de ambos que demuestra el gran número de rasgos estéticos que comparten. Entre los que sobresalen el uso de un lenguaje estetizante, rico en matices y detalles preciosistas, la exaltación de los sentidos y, principalmente, el empleo del imaginario católico al que los dos recurren con un propósito, más que religioso, decorativo. En última instancia, este estudio comparativo trata de iluminar algunas de las claves de Devocionario que la crítica, debido a una falta de comprensión, ha tendido a malinterpretar. Concretamente, se ha sobredimensionado el componente erótico del libro de la gaditana. Abstract: This essay will address the influence of Pablo García Baena (Córdoba, 1921-2018), a founding member of the literary group Cántico (Córdoba), in the poetry of Ana Rossetti (San Fernando, 1950), particularly her book Devocionario (1986). To achieve this, attention is paid to the poetic work of both writers, showing common aspects in their aesthetics, such as the outstanding use of language —rich in nuances and details—, the exaltation of the senses, and, mostly, the use of Catholic imagery, to which both resort with a decorative rather than a religious purpose. This comparative study will also approach some of the keys of Devocionario, which has been misunderstood by the critics. Particularly, scholars have exaggerated the erotic component of this book.

Difficulties of the tactile sensory system sensory integration of children with autism

Sensory integration represents the organization of the senses for their use. It is a neuro-biological activity that allows the reception and processing of sensory information, which in arrive from the senses in huge quantities into the brain, at any time. The ability of the brain to successfully process tactile information allows the child to feel safe and develop a connection with those around it. An autistic child is not able to register many stimuli from their environment, so insufficient or poor sensory processing can contribute to the image of autism. Children with autism spectrum difficulties have specific difficulties in touch perception. The aim of the study was to examine the prevalence of sensory integration difficulties of the tactile sensory system of children with autism spectrum disorders, and to establish the statistical significance of differences in relation to children without developmental difficulties. The total sample of subjects (N=30) consisted of two subsamples. The first subsample of subjects (N=15) consisted of children with difficulties from the autism spectrum, and the second subsample of subjects (N=15) consisted of children without developmental difficulties. The measurement instrument was the „Questionnaire for testing tactile sensory sensitivity“ with 11 variables and the offered answers of possible sensory response was applied. The Mann-Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon W test at the level of statistical significance of p<0.05 were used to examine the statistical significance of the differences between the subsamples of the subjects. The results of the study showed that 86.67 % of children with autism have difficulties in sensory integration of the tactile sensory system. The hypersensitive type of sensory response has 26.67 %, and the hyposensitive sensory response 20 % of children with autism. 40.00 % of children with autism have a mixed type of tactile sensory. There is a statistically significant difference between children with autism and children without developmental difficulties on 4 variables.

Theoretical-Methodological Foundations and Practical Systematization of Sociological Discourse Analysis

ABSTRACT The objective of the paper is to present the theoretical and methodological foundations of sociological discourse analysis (SDA) and to demonstrate the practical application of its procedural basis by way of an exemplary case that has as its theme the culture of devotion to organizations. The development of a practical SDA plan is a constructive and incremental process and its paths are outlined as procedures under development. There is no general and/or rigid rule on what procedures are necessary for achieving the research objectives; the contextualizing interpretation of the discourses will determine the practice. The use of SDA as an analytical lens enabled us to explore the internal dimensions of the discourse, considering the social reality in which it is produced and providing an understanding of the culture of devotion through the senses and meanings that are constructed by the workers of the company we studied.

Biophilic Design

The concept of biophilic design emerges as a solution in an environment where urbanization drives people away from nature, and the built environment becomes increasingly critical to people's productivity; emotional, physical, and mental health; and leads to the pursuit of nature. Examples in which the understanding of including nature in the built environment is adopted, and the human-nature interaction is emphasized, which can be seen in many scales, within the framework of biophilic design. Designs with the same concern from the dimension of urban design to the scale of the architecture are designed in a way that appeals to the senses by taking shape in the human focus. In this chapter, the biophilia phenomenon is examined from different design scales, and principles of the biophilic design are discussed through theoretical bases and practices.
