Abstract This article examines a required undergraduate empirical methods course in writing, rhetoric, and literacy to assess how well it introduces humanities students to empirical research methods. The common curriculum contains a commitment to affordable learning as well as to making students agents of their own learning. Student work artifacts, pre- and post-course surveys, and course evaluations were collected and analyzed to examine the impact of the course on student understanding of and engagement in undergraduate research. Initial results indicate that students are gaining skills that will enable them to function as researchers going forward.

This study aimed to investigate the level of ethical sensitivity among Princess Alia University College Students in Jordan and how this is influenced by their educational level and specialization. To achieve the objects of the study, the ethical sensitivity scale questionnaire (ESSQ) was used, as developed by Narvaez (2001). This was used to measure the moral sensitivity of adults and adolescents. It consists of (28) items in seven dimensions, which are the ability to read emotions, to represent the views of others, interest in communication with others, the activation of personal relations, taking into account differences and controlling social prejudice, working to generate interpretations and alternatives, and identifying the consequences of an event and the available options. The sample of the study consisted of (126) randomly selected undergraduate and graduate students. The results of the study showed that the level of ethical sensitivity among Princess Alia University College Students was low, and there were statistically significant differences in the level of ethical sensitivity due to specialization, in favor of humanities students, as well as statistically significant differences in the level of ethical sensitivity due to the educational level, in favor of master’s students.

Successful induction has been evidenced to strengthen students’ learning, engagement and feelings of belonging. Technology offers opportunities for enhancing the student induction experience, especially pre-arrival, but has been under-utilised. This article provides an evaluation of an online induction learning resource for pre-arrival students in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Warwick in 2019. There will be particular focus on the method of co-designing the resource with a group of current students. The article will demonstrate how online learning resources for pre-arrival students can support successful induction. It argues that co-designing digital student experience resources in collaboration with students aids the development of materials that students find engaging and that co-design has a range of benefits for staff and students who are involved in the process.

Objectives. The study aims at identifying and describing a fragment of the linguistic consciousness of humanitarian students, reflecting their ideas about the personal qualities of M.S. Gorbachev and B.N. Yeltsin. The additional tasks are: (1) to compare the characteristics identified experimentally with the linguistic characteristics of these personalities in the official mass media; (2) to analyze the role of media discourse in the formation of images of the politicians under study. Material and Methods. The method of unipolar personal semantic differential is used. The process of the results included the identification of group universal assessments, their qualitative analysis, comparison and qualitative analysis of the similarities and differences of the universal evaluations of the stimuli studied. Media texts published for the 90th anniversary of Gorbachev and the 90th anniversary of Yeltsin, selected by the method of random (serial) sampling, were analyzed qualitatively Results. Group semantic universals reflecting students’ perceptions of the politicians studied are poor in content. The most striking characteristic of Gorbachev are selfishness and deceitfulness, unlike Yeltsin he is thought to be hardworking and calm. A distinctive feature of Yeltsin is ambition. Both leaders appear as free in their behavior, the difference lies in the fact that Gorbachev is considered experienced, but devoid of tact and flexibility, Yeltsin lacks creativity, wit and malevolence. Both combine such traits as sociability, activity and intelligence. The experiment does not record the qualities that are emphasized in mass media – kindness and care for the good of the country. Conclusions. The ideas of students about the personal qualities of Gorbachev and Yeltsin are rather vague, “kaleidoscopic” in nature. The group assessment of the personal characteristics of these politicians does not coincide with the interpretation offered by various mass media. Mass media today do not contribute to the development of a view of the history shared by a significant part of society, which, in turn, leads to the conservation of socio-political contradictions in society. Moreover, modern media, despite its advantageous position, now play rather a destructive role in creating a common view of the history of Russia and the quality of its recent leaders. The result may be a state of psychological conflict in society directly related to culture and the human self, with “identification confusion” (the term of E. Erickson) that has the function of a collective ego.

The transition of universities to distance learning during the CODID-19 pandemic caused discussions about the development of the educational system in the context of digitalization of society. The question arose about the readiness of universities, students, and teachers to use digital educational tools. Studies of students’ ideas about distance learning have revealed its difficulties, positive and negative effects. The analysis of the survey data made it possible to reveal the problems of forming the basic competencies of students taking into account the requirements of the digital economy. The authors conclude, based on the analysis of the results of a survey of humanities students, that the previously discovered difficulties of distance learning persist during the «second wave» of the pandemic. They reveal the relevance of survival values for students (according to R. Inglehart and K. Welzel). The authors suggest that the decline in significance of self-expression values and the decrease in the sense of existential security may be a consequence of the pandemic crisis. The possibilities of digitalization of education to strengthen the resources of the subject and increase its mobility have come into conflict with the return of students to settledness when introducing distance learning to implement epidemic restrictions.

The article aims to illustrate and discuss how the strategies of universities influence the tactics used by students and graduates while entering the labor market. Its author attempted to find the answers to three research questions. First, what are the ways of entering the labor market of students and graduates of the faculties that appear on the highest positions in the graduate tracking systems and those that hold low positions? Secondly, how do university strategies influence the tactics developed by students and graduates? And last but not least, how to help humanities students enter the labor market. To answer those questions, the author applied ethnographic research carried out with individuals in the space of the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and ethnology students and graduates at the University of Warsaw (IEiAK). In her article, she refers to the concept of strategy and tactics developed by Michel de Certeau and describes the implementation of the study results within the framework of the engaged anthropology program at the University of Warsaw. The performed analyses led to the conclusion that SGH had a broader range of strategies that allowed its students and graduates to develop more effective tactics for entering the labor market. On the other hand, implementation of the research results allowed to broaden the scope of both the strategy offered by IEiAK and tactics used by its students and graduates.
