The monograph under review is highly appreciated as having been long-awaited by specialists in phraseology and cultural linguistics. This is an up-to-date original work full of innovations and creative discoveries. Performed for the first time in philology, the comprehensive analysis of idioms and paroemias as signs of language and culture is highly welcomed. The innovative and effective aspects of the monograph are as follows: the study of the correlation of idioms and paroemias with cultural codes; the comparative linguocultural analysis of idioms and paroemias, on the one hand, and idioms and riddles, on the other hand, which are the units most saturated with culture-specific information. We underline the originality of the author’s conclusions about the influence of cultural connotations of the studied linguistic material on the dynamics of the British linguistic worldview. The linguistic and cultural analysis of the proper name as a component in the composition of proverbs, sayings, riddles and idioms – signs of language and culture – results, for the first time, in representing the anthroponymic code of culture. On the basis of extensive phraseological material, the author describes in detail the processes of semiotization of the value-loaded content of culture.

“Green design” has become a focal point and has caused widespread concerns around the world. In such a large environment, many designers’ sense of social responsibility is stimulated. When designing, they try to avoid the negative impact of the design on the environment, thereby reducing the environment. The analysis and research with pictures and texts are carried out from six aspects respectively. Research and analysis of calligraphy fonts, artistic characters, Latin letters, and decorative fonts are given to explore their functions and roles in the visual image design of cigarette labels. Finally, through the analysis of typographic characteristics and Western progressive culture and design thoughts on cigarette label layout design influence, we discuss the characteristics and style of the cigarette label in the layout design. The results show that the indices of the regression analysis of the three independent variables and the corresponding significance, the significance values of aesthetics and ease of use are all less than 0.05, and the regression coefficients are all statistically significant, and have significant effects on the dependent variables, and the correlation index is positive, indicating that the two independent variables have a significant positive correlation with satisfaction; the useful significance value is greater than 0.05, the regression coefficient is not statistically significant, and has no significant effect on the dependent variable.

Francophone literary production in Madagascar, although born out of a colonial context, has found its own voice in terms of the codes and themes it uses. It seeks to take its place in Francophone literature through comprehension based on a common language. However, the works written in French are informed by the cultural, social, spiritual and linguistic context of Madagascar. The resulting texts are full of allusions to prestigious literary genres, shared concerns and concepts whose comprehension is difficult for a readership which understands the words without understanding their cultural connotations. It is necessary to reflect on the specific task of the literary critic who may, whilst respecting the dynamics of a literary text, add annotations in the form of ‘cultural translations’. The aim would be not to smother a body of work, which must be allowed to maintain its own nuances, but to allow better knowledge of the works and to make more effective the intercultural exchanges which are part of contemporary globalisation.

Both the Roman Catholic Church and the canonical Orthodox Churches, or Churches associated with the Union of Utrecht, include marriage in the seven sacraments. Nevertheless, there is no agreement between them regarding the minister of the sacrament, the possibility of a second marriage after divorce or clergy marriage. In recent years, tensions in individual ecclesial communities have also been exacerbated by canonical legalization of same-sex relationships. This issue concerns, in particular, the Churches whose bishops are part of the International Conference of Old Catholic Bishops. In the West European Old Catholic Churches of the Union of Utrecht there is full agreement that homosexual orientation is one of the variants of human nature. Old Catholics Theologians believe that the condemnation of homosexuality which we find in Scripture resulted from the state of knowledge at the time and related cultural connotations. They point out that modern science shows this phenomenon in a completely different perspective, based on the results of scientific research unknown to either the Biblical tradition or the Tradition of the early Church. The consequence of this was the opening of the debate on their nature and on the possibility of blessing same-sex relationships.

All languages have special letters, particular personal names, some of which are deeply rooted in the culture of the speakers of the particular language; consequently, they can create unique difficulties in understanding the culture-specific texts. It is interesting to note that some personal names have different allusions indicating gender, age, geography, history, specific meaning, playfulness of language and cultural connotations when omitting this implied information will result in an appropriate translation. To analyse the transmitting of the names of places and proper names and their meaning from one language to another were taken the translation transformations, transliteration method and practical transcription with the emphasis on providing and explaining numerous examples. In this paper, the concept of archaeometallomics is put forward to study the role of metal elements in cultural relics. An example is the influence of metal elements in the identification of their origin, dating, authenticity and the technology used for the production of ancient ceramics. This analysis also provides the social and cultural connotations of the development process of that time and shows that there is a close relationship between the rich glaze varieties and the metal elements in porcelain. The application of different analytical techniques in studying metallic elements in ancient ceramics is also briefly summarized. The construction of a metal element composition database and the related questions in the glaze color-forming mechanism of ancient relics should be considered an important research direction for future works.
