In recent decades, there was a notable surge of interest in the history of the Republic of China (1912–1949). New Life Movement (Xin shenghuo yundong) was one of the most important en-deavours undertaken during the so-called Nanjing Decade (1927–1937) — a period of authoritarian rule of Guomindang (National Party), after the triumph of the Northern Expedition and before the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Inaugurated in 1934, this movement sought to revive Confucian virtues and create better society through the promotion of proper behaviour (especially etiquette and hygiene). Virtues, whose realisation in daily life was stated as the goal of the Move-ment, were li — propriety, yi — right action, lian — integrity, and chi — a sense of shame. Later, these goals were expanded to include promotion of militarisation (junshihua), aesthetic uplifting (yishuhua), and improving the production (shengchanhua) in peopleʼs lifestyles. Although the New Life Movement was initiated by Chiang Kai-shek on 19 February 1934 in Nanchang, in many respects it was a continuation of previous policies. To realise the New Life Movement, the Society for the Promotion of the New Life Movement (Xin shenghuo yundong cujin hui) was founded in 1934. Members of different factions in Guomindang participated in its activities. After the first two years, the New Life Movement disappeared from the spotlight, but remained active at least until 1948. During the war, the main task of the movement was participation in war efforts and, after the conflict ended, in post-war recovery. In the end, the New Life Movement failed in realisation of its stated goals. Nevertheless, it seems that its activities were still beneficial for Guomindang’s government. This article presents an outline of history and origins of the New Life Movement, as well as describe its goals and methods. In the end, there will be an evaluation of this important and controversial movement and its place in the history of Guomindang and China.

Endowed with an in-depth and insightful analysis of the Church’s reality and the charism of reading the signs of the times, one of the greatest Polish pastoralists, founder of the Light-Life Movement, Fr. Franciszek Blachnicki (21 March 1921–27 February 1987) insistently postulated making the “Copernican turn” in the Church’s saving ministry. On the hundredth anniversary of his birth, it is worth looking at the guiding principles of the Congregation for Clergy Pastoral conversion of the parish community in the service of the Church’s evangelizing mission (29 June 2020) and analyze to what extent Blachnicki’s concept of pastoral conversion regarding the renewal of the parish is still valid and estimate whether it can still be an inspiration in pastoral discussions on the realization of the Church hic et nunc.

Abstract; The ecumenical life movement is a movement that seeks to unite churches which are essentially one but separated by different denominational organizations. The ecumenical movement is a movement that must continue to be built but not to eliminate denominations because denominational wealth is God's work that is unique to His church. So the question that arises is what is the ecumenical spirit between the two denominations? The author discusses this topic with the aim of building an ecumenical spirit or church unity among church denominations. how to build an ecumenical spirit, which often results in the lack of an ecumenical spirit. The authors target in this study are all church members, be it the Toraja Church, GPdI, and also for all existing church denominations. In this study the authors have conducted research, and the method used in this study is a qualitative method, namely interviews and observations. In the interview, the author obtained or obtained information that sometimes the two congregations cornered each other in their territory so that sometimes there were disputes between members of the congregation of these two denominations, for this the conclusion of this study about ecumenicalism is that in building an ecumenical spirit, mutual respect between denominations is very important. It is important, besides building good relationships with other church members and then running away from cooperation in serving God and His people. These things can be done in building an ecumenical spirit between denominations Abstrak; Gerakan hidup ekumenis adalah gerakan yang berusaha menyatukan gereja-gereja yang pada dasarnya satu tetapi dipisahkan oleh organisasi denominasi yang berbeda.

In this illustrated article, I begin with a question: Do rocks talk? The life, movement and migration of stories – and rocks, as the oldest living beings, have witnessed these histories and transformations (Donald, 2009; Tinker, 2004). This article explores the changing landscapes and stories of our lives, and the places where we live and dwell. It unravels discourses seeped in colonial histories, while recognizing our responsibilities as newcomers and settlers to these places and Indigenous peoples. This métissage of stories speaks to the meaning of places within our lives – and what we can learn from these places, when and if, we are willing to listen. And rocks, as the oldest living beings, always remember.

Since 2007, the Amil Zakat Harapan Duafa Institute (LAZ Harfa) has actively initiated a healthy life movement campaign in the Pandeglang Regency, especially to people who are still practicing open defecation (BABS), due to either the lack of latrines or other factors. “Jamban” in English means latrine. Using the Community Lead Total Sanitation (CLTS) method, this healthy living campaign is focused on the latrine ownership program through the arisan system. An Arisan is a form of rotating savings in Indonesian culture. From the results of research using case studies, this healthy living movement campaign has brought significant results. Through a persuasive communication process as part of the approach to the community strategy, the results were obtained that by the end of 2019 as many as 29 assisted villages in 8 sub-districts in Pandeglang District had been free from the practice of open defecation. This fact shows that the persuasive communication carried out in this healthy living campaign is quite effective and brings the expected results.

Manipulation implies a conscious choice from speakers to trigger a change of opinion in the interlocutors and to make them accept their own point of view, i.e. their own vision of the world. As pointed out by Goatly [2007], Charteris-Black [2005, 2014] or Van Dijk [1998], metaphors can be used as manipulative tools. Metaphors have traditionally been considered as figures of speech used by rhetoricians to convince crowds; cognitivists have demonstrated that they are figures of thought as well, which partly accounts for their manipulative potential. The three underlying reasons to this are, among others, the highlighting-hiding process, the existence of asymmetrical metaphors, and the multivalency of metaphors. The manipulative potential of metaphors is examined in twelve speeches from pro-life supporters, ranging from 2006 to 2019. One of the main ideological debates going on in the US has been on abortion, as the pro-life movement has grown stronger in recent years and has been threatening the right to abortion guaranteed by Roe v. Wade. The study of the metaphors in those speeches has enabled us to highlight how pro-lifers manipulate people regarding the apprehension of reality by systematically using a limited number of conceptualizations.
