Abstract The Osteochilus melanopleurus (Bleeker, 1852) is one of the endogenous fish in the Siak River waters of Riau province which has high economic value. However, the fulfillment of needs still depends on the catch in nature. Efforts to overcome these problems are the availability of mature gonads. Broadly to accelerate the maturation of gonads through hormone induction until the fish are ready to be spawned to produce fish fry continuously. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of gonadotropin and anti-dopamine hormone induction with the trademark “Oodev” on the final gonad maturity (TKG) of the prospective broodstock of O. melanopleurus. The research was conducted from April to August 2021 in the fish rearing column and the experimental pond, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science. The research method was a Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatment levels and 3 replications, while the treatments were P0 (without Oodev injection), P1 (Oodev dose 0.5 mL/kg), P2 (0.7 mL/kg), and P3 (0,9 mL/kg). Measured responses: percentage of broodstock that reached TKG and egg diameter. The results of the research that have been carried out, the measurement of the diameter of the eggs produced showed that the use of the Oodev hormone at a dose of 0.7 mL/kg body weight of O.melanopleurus given every week for twelve weeks was able to stimulate the development of the gonads of O.melanopleurus. Ovaprim injection of 0.7 mL/kg body weight produced 89,566 eggs with a latency of 4 hours. oodev injection dose of 0.7 ml/kg BW or P2 treatment has succeeded in achieving a TKG of 82%.

Kata kunci : Cyprinus carpio, kurkumin, larva Early Development of Common Carp Larva from Broodstock Fed Diet Supplemented with CurcuminABSTRACTThe early growth of the larva is greatly influenced by the availability of food from the egg yolk. Insufficiency of nutrition in the early stages of development can affect the development of larva. The purpose of this study was to know the early growth of larva from broodstock supplemented with curcumin. This study used the female broodstock of common carp that supplemented with curcumin at several doses; 0%; 0,25%; 0,5%; 1%; and 2%. The fishes that had been mature were spawned, and the fertilized eggs were taken to be hatched. The larva was observed for 2 days after hatching (dah). The results showed that the treatment of curcumin supplementation with a dose of 0,5% given in the common carp feed gave an optimal value for egg diameter (p <0,05) and body length of the larva until the age of 2 dah (p <0,05), but did not differ for absolute length growth (p>0,05).Key words: Cyprinus carpio, curcumin, larva

Abstract. Ridho MR, Patriono E, Wati DR, Pratama R, Avesena M. 2021. Short Communication: Investigating gonad length and fecundity in mudskippers (Gobiidae) at the Musi River estuary, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 4413-4420. Information on the biological aspects of mudskipper (Gobiidae) reproduction is needed as a conservation effort to use economically valuable and sustainable resources in the future. This can be used to enrich the information on the status of the mudskipper research at the Musi River estuary, South Sumatra, Indonesia. The field sampling was carried out by using the purposive sampling method. The sampling of fish was carried out by the researchers and assisted by the people of the community using fishing rods and bubu fish traps. The results showed that 122 mudskipper were obtained, which consisted of four species Boleophthalmus boddarti, Boleophthalmus dussumieri, Periophthalmus chrysospilos, Periophthalmodon schlosseri. 93 male and 29 female fish were caught, the sex ratio was 3.20:1. There are more male than female fish overall with the sampling method used. Most of the female fish fecundity was reported in P. chrysospilos, namely 23,270-36,264 items in GM (III) and ranged from 40,825-87,749 items in GM (IV). The largest egg diameter was reported in P. chrysospilos by 0.051-0.069 mm (GML III) and 0.053-0.062 mm (GML IV), while the smallest weight and length were reported in P. chrysospilos than other species. The egg size was not positively correlated with body size.

Abstract Observation of the reproductive organs of the hybrid grouper cantik was carried out. Cantik grouper is the result of cross-breeding between female tiger grouper Epinephelus fuscoguttatus and male camouflage grouper E. polyphekadion. This study aimed to determine the development of the reproductive organs of cantik grouper. The observed test fishes were 3 fishes of Cantik grouper with a total length of 42 - 49 cm and a bodyweight of 1.45 - 2.26 kg. The parameters observed were the concentarion of estradiol and testosterone in the blood using the ELISA kit, gonad development, and histological maturity level of the gonads. The results showed that the hormone testosterone found in the sample cantik no 1 was 9353 pg/ml, while the hormone estradiol was found in all samples of beautiful grouper in the range of 291 - 1133 pg/ml. From the dissected fish, the gonads had developed and weighed 3.12 - 56.01 g and one sample had a fecundity of 265,800 eggs with an egg diameter of 360-520 micron. Gonadal histology shows oosit development at maturity levels I, II, and IV. This indicates that the crossbreeding between female tiger grouper and male camouflage grouper produces hybrid grouper cantik that are fertile, which is shown by their reproductive organs to have developed well.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the combination of estradiol-17β hormone and spirulina in feed on blood plasma biochemistry, histology, and gonad development of female bada fish (Rasbora argyrotaenia). The research method were an experimental study using a completely randomized design with four treatment combinations and four replications, namely without the addition of the estradiol-17β hormone and spirulina (P0), the addition of the estradiol-17β hormone at 7 g kg-1 feed (P1), the addition of spirulina at 30 g kg-1 feed (P2) and the addition of the estradiol-17β hormone at 7 g kg-1 feed and spirulina at 30 g kg-1 feed. Female bada fish (4.22±1.28 g) were kept in an aquarium measuring 100x50x50 cm3 with a density of seven individuals per aquarium. Fish were fed the treatment twice daily, with 3% of the biomass for six weeks. The test parameters were estradiol-17β hormone concentration, egg diameter, blood plasma glucose concentration, blood plasma total cholesterol concentration, and gonadal histology observations. The experimental results showed that the concentration of the estradiol-17β hormone in the body plasma of treatments P1 and P3 was statistically significantly different (P<0.05) compared to treatments P0 and P2. The combination of estradiol-17β hormone and spirulina added to the feed gave not significantly different results (P>0.05) on blood plasma biochemistry and egg diameter of bada fish broodstock. A combination of estradiol-17β hormone and spirulina hormones in the feed resulted in better P1 and P3 treatments with higher plasma concentrations of the estradiol-17β hormone. Observations of gonadal development from histology showed that the bada fish gonads belonged to the asynchronous type.

Highlight ResearchThe reproductive characteristics of L. hoevenii were examinedThe potentially smallest maturity sizes of female and male L. hoevenii were 350 g and 180 g, respectivelyThe fecundity of a 1,000 g L. hoevenii can be more than 100,000 eggsL. hoevenii was determined as a multiple spawnerAbstractSultan fish (Leptobarbus hoevenii) is a high value freshwater fish, cultured in some Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia and Thailand. However, information on its reproductive characteristics is very scarce. This study examined the gonadosomatic index (GSI), fecundity, egg diameter, and determined whether L. hoevenii is a single- or multiple-spawner. Twenty male and female pond-farmed L. hoevenii broodstock were obtained to measure their total length (TL), body weight (BW) and gonad weight to calculate the GSI. Ten females were randomly sampled from the 20 to determine their fecundity. A total of 1,500 eggs were sampled from each female. The egg diameter was measured then its frequency distribution was analyzed to detect the number of egg class group, and to determine whether L. hoevenii is a single- or multiple spawner. The female L. hoevenii examined were 32.2-47.1 cm and 350-1,200 g, while the males were 30.7-45.8 cm and 180-970 g in TL and BW, respectively. All female specimens contained gonads. The potentially smallest mature samples were recorded at 350 g (female) and 180 g (male). GSI for the female and male L. hoevenii were 1.81-12.28 % and 1.03-5.09 %, respectively. The fecundity was 35,467 -128,067 eggs, while the highest fecundity was observed in a 1,000 g fish. The observed egg diameter ranged from 500 to 1,855 μm. Two to five groups of egg class were detected, indicating that L. hoevenii is a multiple spawner.

Spatial and temporal variations of reproduction variables of the two cyclopoid copepods Oithona nana Giesbrecht, 1893 and Oithona similis Claus, 1866 were evaluated monthly from September 2007 to August 2008 in four ponds at different salinities in the solar saltern of Sfax, Tunisia, under hypersaline conditions. Along the salinity gradient the abundance of O. nana and O. similis declined from 14,900 ± 15,200 ind. m-3 (A1) to 6,800 ± 7,200 (C31) and from 13,800 ± 17,100 ind. m-3 (A1) to 3,700 ± 5,800 (C31), respectively. The findings showed that the abundance of these Oithona species, particularly the ovigerous females, was positively correlated with the abundance of Diatomeae, and negatively correlated with salinity. The egg production rate (EPR), the egg diameter, the clutch size, as well as the cephalothorax length of mature females, were all negatively correlated with salinity and positively correlated with the abundance of Diatomeae. Along the existing salinity gradient, the EPR decreased from 4.7 ± 0.39 (A1) to 3.2 ± 0.13 (C31) eggs female-1 day-1 and from 5.19 ± 0.46 (A1) to 3.66 ± 0.05 (C31) eggs female-1 day-1 for O. nana and O. similis, respectively, and this could mainly be attributed to the hypersaline conditions. The positive relationship between the abundance of Diatomeae with all traits shows, that these may be a vital component of the diet for the investigated species. The reduction of body size of Oithona along the salinity gradient demonstrates that such a character could mainly be due to a network of causes, related with the confinement and not only to salinity.
