Abstract Large eddy simulation (LES) seeks to predict the dynamics of the organized structures in the flow, that is, local spatial averages u ̄ $\bar{u}$ of the velocity u of the fluid. Although LES has been extensively used to model turbulent flows, very often, the model has difficulty predicting turbulence generated by interactions of a flow with a boundary. A critical problem in LES is to find appropriate boundary conditions for the flow averages, which depend on the behavior of the unknown flow near the wall. In the light of the works of Navier and Maxwell, we use boundary conditions on the wall. We compute the appropriate friction coefficient β for channel flows and investigate its asymptotic behavior as the averaging radius δ → 0 and as the Reynolds number Re → ∞. No-slip conditions are recovered in the first limit, and free-slip conditions are recovered in the second limit. This study is not intended to develop new theories of the turbulent boundary layer; we use available boundary layer theories to improve numerical boundary conditions for flow averages.

Aims:: This article is intended to investigate and determine combined impact of Slip and Hall current on Peristaltic transmission of Magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) Eyring-Powell fluid. Background: The hall term arises taking strong force-field under consideration. Velocity, thermal and concentration slip conditions are applied. Energy equation is modeled by considering Joule-thermal effect. To observe non-Newtonian behavior of fluid the constitutive equations of Eyring-Powell fluid is encountered. Objective: Flow is studied in a wave frame of reference travelling with velocity of wave. The mathematical modeling is done by utilizing adequate assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynolds number. Method: The closed form solution for momentum, temperature and concentration distribution is computed analytically by using regular perturbation technique for small fluid parameter(A). Results: Graphical results are presented and discussed in detail to analyze behavior of sundry parameters on flow quantities (i.e. velocity, temperature and concentration profile). It is noticed that Powell-Eyring fluid parameters (A,B) have a significant role on the outcomes. Conclusion: The fluid parameter A magnifies the velocity profile whereas, the other fluid parameter B shows the opposite behavior.

This study presents the magnetized hybrid nanofluid flow with heat source/sink over an exponentially stretching/shrinking sheet. Slip conditions are implemented to analyze the hybrid nanofluid flow for both slip and no-slip conditions. Additionally, the hybrid nanofluid of alumina and copper (hybrid nanoparticles) with blood (base fluid) has been considered and discussed with both suction and injection parameters. The appropriate similarity variables are used to convert partial differential equations (PDEs) into ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and solved analytically with the help of the homotopy analysis method (HAM). The impact of different embedded parameters has been shown in the form of graphs and tables. The numerical values of skin friction and Nusselt number are presented in the form of Tables for both slip and no-slip cases. It is summarized that the upsurge of the velocity slip parameter and magnetic parameter increases the skin friction, while the rising of the thermal slip parameter and heat generation parameter decreases the Nusselt number.

The present study is related to the analytical investigation of the magnetohydrodynamic flow of Ag − MgO/ water hybrid nanoliquid with slip conditions via an extending surface. The thermal radiation and Joule heating effects are incorporated within the existing hybrid nanofluid model. The system of higher-order partial differential equations is converted to the nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations by interpreting the similarity transformations. With the implementation of a strong analytical method called HAM, the solution of resulting higher-order ordinary differential equations is obtained. The results of the skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number, velocity profile, and temperature profile of the hybrid nanofluid for varying different flow parameters are attained in the form of graphs and tables. Some important outcomes showed that the Nusselt number and skin friction are increased with the enhancement in Eckert number, stretching parameter, heat generation parameter and radiation parameter for both slip and no-slip conditions. The thermal profile of the hybrid nanofluid is higher for suction effect but lower for Eckert number, stretching parameter, magnetic field, heat generation and radiation parameter. For both slip and no-slip conditions, the hybrid nanofluid velocity shows an upward trend for both the stretching and mixed convection parameters.

The aim of the present study is to analyze the effects of aligned magnetic field and radiation on biomagnetic fluid flow and heat transfer over an unsteady stretching sheet with various slip conditions. The magnetic field is assumed to be sufficiently strong enough to saturate the ferrofluid, and the variation of magnetization is approximated by a linear function of temperature difference. The governing boundary layer equations with boundary conditions are simplified by suitable transformations. Numerical solution is obtained by using the bvp4c function technique in MATLAB software. The numerical results are derived for the velocity, temperature, the skin friction coefficient, and the rate of heat transfer. The evaluated results are compared with analytical study documented in scientific literature. The present investigation illustrates that the fluid velocity is decreased with the increasing values of radiation parameter, magnetic parameter, and ferromagnetic interaction parameter, though is increased as the Prandtl number, Grashof number, permeable parameter and thermal slip parameter are increased. In this investigation, the suction/injection parameter had a good impact on the skin friction coefficient and the rate of heat transfer.
