The article provides an analysis of the “Spanish code” inscribed in the text of Lesia Ukrainka’s drama Kaminnyi hospodar (The Stone Host). The constituents of the code include: 1) conventions of 17th century Spanish baroque drama, in particular, use of the dialectics of the concepts of dignity and reputation as a driving mechanism for confl ict throughout Lesia Ukrainka’s play and transformation within the classical scheme of characters suggested by Lope de Vega and his followers; 2) stereotypes of “Spanishness” through which the playwright produced a heteroimage of Spain. Lesia Ukrainka’s variant of the famous legend of Don Juan is a sophisticated modernist drama. The “Spanish code” serves as a prism through which the playwright examines the world. Lesia Ukrainka created an astonishing modernist tragicomedy of dishonesty, full of the spirit of uncertainty.

AbstractOver the past two decades several different approaches to defining a geometry over $${{\mathbb F}_1}$$ F 1 have been proposed. In this paper, relying on Toën and Vaquié’s formalism (J.K-Theory 3: 437–500, 2009), we investigate a new category $${\mathsf {Sch}}_{\widetilde{{\mathsf B}}}$$ Sch B ~ of schemes admitting a Zariski cover by affine schemes relative to the category of blueprints introduced by Lorscheid (Adv. Math. 229: 1804–1846, 2012). A blueprint, which may be thought of as a pair consisting of a monoid M and a relation on the semiring $$M\otimes _{{{\mathbb F}_1}} {\mathbb N}$$ M ⊗ F 1 N , is a monoid object in a certain symmetric monoidal category $${\mathsf B}$$ B , which is shown to be complete, cocomplete, and closed. We prove that every $${\widetilde{{\mathsf B}}}$$ B ~ -scheme $$\Sigma $$ Σ can be associated, through adjunctions, with both a classical scheme $$\Sigma _{\mathbb Z}$$ Σ Z and a scheme $$\underline{\Sigma }$$ Σ ̲ over $${{\mathbb F}_1}$$ F 1 in the sense of Deitmar (in van der Geer G., Moonen B., Schoof R. (eds.) Progress in mathematics 239, Birkhäuser, Boston, 87–100, 2005), together with a natural transformation $$\Lambda :\Sigma _{\mathbb Z}\rightarrow \underline{\Sigma }\otimes _{{{\mathbb F}_1}}{\mathbb Z}$$ Λ : Σ Z → Σ ̲ ⊗ F 1 Z . Furthermore, as an application, we show that the category of “$${{\mathbb F}_1}$$ F 1 -schemes” defined by Connes and Consani in (Compos. Math. 146: 1383–1415, 2010) can be naturally merged with that of $${\widetilde{{\mathsf B}}}$$ B ~ -schemes to obtain a larger category, whose objects we call “$${{\mathbb F}_1}$$ F 1 -schemes with relations”.

Quantum estimation of a single parameter has been studied extensively. Practical applications, however, typically involve multiple parameters, for which the ultimate precision is much less understood. Here, by relating the precision limit directly to the Heisenberg uncertainty relation, we show that to achieve the highest precisions for multiple parameters at the same time requires the saturation of multiple Heisenberg uncertainty relations simultaneously. Guided by this insight, we experimentally demonstrate an optimally controlled multipass scheme, which saturates three Heisenberg uncertainty relations simultaneously and achieves the highest precisions for the estimation of all three parameters in SU(2) operators. With eight controls, we achieve a 13.27-dB improvement in terms of the variance (6.63 dB for the SD) over the classical scheme with the same loss. As an experiment demonstrating the simultaneous achievement of the ultimate precisions for multiple parameters, our work marks an important step in multiparameter quantum metrology with wide implications.

This article returns to the surviving texts of Patrick, apostle to Ireland, in order to refine further his floruit in the fifth century. It argues that Patrick's use of a classical scheme relating age to status clarifies the contexts for the autobiographical details of his life, and that these details can be correlated with the limited historical records that survive for this period. In connecting his excommunication of Coroticus to an Easter controversy c. 455, and his controversial elevation to an episcopal see to a dislocation in clerical authority in Britain c. 441, I argue that Patrick's formal clerical career c. 427-455 matches Richard Hanson's sophisticated literary arguments made in the latter third of the twentieth century. I also propose that the uncertainty over the date of Patrick's death (in a context of exile), as represented by various reports in the Irish and Welsh annals c. 457-493, is inconsequential to his formal period of authority.

In this paper the approaches to obtain an optimal behavior in dynamic multicriteria games are constructed. Classical scheme with weighted sum of the criteria and new conceptions of optimal solutions' construction are presented. Dynamic multicriteria bioresorce management problem is considered. Parameters of the model where the equilibria obtained applying traditional or dynamic approaches coincide are obtained.

For persons who wanted to invest their resources in international commerce, the necessity of a sea voyage significantly increased the risk connected to this venture. Thus the contracts, which took into account the risk related to navigation, constituted under Roman law a special category of contracts, as they modified standard contracts such as a loan or a partnership contract. In the contract of maritime loan the fact that the creditor assumed the risk of losing money in case the condition si salva navis pervenerit was not fulfilled and in exchange could claim high interest to compensate him for such risk transforms this contract into an instrument used for the joint gain of profits. The classical scheme, in which all partners were obliged to share both profits and losses was modified by a partnership contract, in which a partner whose contribution involved exclusively undertaking risky sea voyages was exempt from bearing losses. This pactum made it possible to treat pecuniary contributions and in-kind contributions as equivalent in value. This prevented a situation in which the partner whose sole contribution involved services, in spite of due performance of his obligations, would be liable to repay a part of the loss to the partner who brought capital, if the activity of the partnership resulted in the loss. A typical example, referred to by jurists, of a situation in which services performed by a partner justified discharging him from participating in the loss, was the case in which one of the socii financed the purchase of goods to be subsequently sold with profit in another port, while the other one carried out this venture risking his life during the sea voyage. Therefore, undoubtedly, services entailing a dangerous sea voyage constituted a good example of a partnership, in which the value of a contribution of opera was even greater than the value of the capital invested, and this justified releasing one of the partners from participation in the loss. Therefore, the risk related to navigation, and more specifically the willingness to assume it, starts to be considered as having a certain economic and market value. This value constitutes a special periculi pretium, that is to be taken into consideration in a contract relationship. The acknowledgement by Roman jurists that the willingness to assume the risk connected with certain types of business constituted an economic value, means that the importance of such factors as the partner’s efficiency, resourcefulness, or willingness to embark on a risky activity (in most cases crucial for a success of an enterprise) – was fully appreciated.

Sensing strategy directly influences the sensing accuracy of a spectrum sensing scheme. As a result, the optimization of a sensing strategy appears to be of great significance for accuracy improvement in spectrum sensing. Motivated by this, a novel sensing strategy is proposed in this paper, where an improved tradeoff among detection probability, false-alarm probability and available throughput is obtained based on the energy detector. We provide the optimal sensing performance and exhibit its superiority in theory compared with the classical scheme. Finally, simulations validate the conclusions drawn in this paper.
