Is the culture in Korean dramas positive and more educational for generation Z than local dramas? The study used qualitative methods using interactive qualitative methods with questionnaires and interviews as data collection techniques. The data obtained is further analyzed descriptively and presented in table form. From the results of research that has been done, it was found that Korean dramas do influence generation Z citizens to have a lifestyle and language style as in Korean dramas. The presence of bad behavior and new grammar that comes in from Korean dramas that are used as a lifestyle lead to the need for solutions to prevent generation Z who dislike culture and preserve local culture and language. There needs to be good socialization so that the citizens of Generation Z do not drift in the Korean wave. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, data collection is entirely done online through google form and Whatsapp, therefore, the results of the data obtained are not as good as data collection carried out face-to-face.

The global rise of the South Korean entertainment industry, commonly described as the Korean wave or hallyu, has been the subject of scholarly study because it presents a challenge to Western media hegemony. This chapter uses mixed methods to assess how hybridized genre conventions and familiar storytelling structures in South Korean television dramas create a media product that is accessible to a diverse fandom. The Korean drama fandom extends beyond Eastern Asia and the Asian diaspora, and there is a dearth of research on this larger global audience. Theories of cultural proximity are insufficient to explain a popularity that transcends culture and language. The importance of a media text's structure is also under-studied in research on fandom. By combining survey data from Korean drama fans living outside of South Korea with a critical assessment of the use of melodrama and other genre conventions in Korean dramas, this chapter argues that the shared symbolic language of genre plays an important role in building a global fanbase.

To this day political processes are less and less impacted by military force. States are increasingly resorting to the use of means of latent influence or relying on cultural attraction. Such phenomena have led to the emergence of soft power in international relations. Many countries, including the Republic of Korea, effectively use soft power tools in implementing policies at various levels. This manuscript seeks to analyze the main soft power components and tools of the Republic of Korea in foreign policy. The paper examines the background of the formation and development of soft power strategies. Many factors have predetermined the growing popularity of Korean culture, a phenomenon subsequently called the Korean Wave (Hallyu). This paper identifies the main elements of the Hallyu, including public diplomacy and South Koreas cultural economy exporting pop culture, entertainment, music, TV dramas, and movies, and examines how these elements complement each other.

The Korean Wave, also known as the Hallyu, is one of the nation branding’s characteristics of South Korea. As a need from the state to strengthen its existence, the study of nation branding is interesting to see how the strategies chosen by state actors are and what forms of collaboration they take. This study will examine the contribution of Chaebol in strengthening nation branding through the Korean Wave. By using the Nation Branding Index by Simon Anholt, this study looks at the forms of contribution and collaboration between actors in six nation branding indexes, namely national governance, export promotion, tourism, investment and immigration, cultural/heritage relations, and public/people. In Hegemonic Mimicry, Kyung Hyun Kim considers the recent global success of Korean popular culture—the Korean wave of pop music, cinema, and television, which is also known as hallyu—from a transnational and transcultural perspective. Using the concept of mimicry to think through hallyu's adaptation of American sensibilities and genres, he shows how the commercialization of Korean popular culture has upended the familiar dynamic of major-to-minor cultural influence, enabling hallyu to become a dominant global cultural phenomenon. At the same time, its worldwide popularity has rendered its Koreanness opaque. Kim argues that Korean cultural subjectivity over the past two decades is one steeped in ethnic rather than national identity. Explaining how South Korea leaped over the linguistic and cultural walls surrounding a supposedly “minor” culture to achieve global ascendance, Kim positions K-pop, Korean cinema and television serials, and even electronics as transformative acts of reappropriation that have created a hegemonic global ethnic identity.
