This chapter describes how bovine amniotic membrane could be indicated for wound healing, especially in complex surgery such as urethral reconstruction. Chemical studies have assessed both histologically and immunohistochemically that bovine amniotic membrane creates scaffold for wound healing. Whereas, clinical studies have shown that bovine amniotic membrane property could be substituted for wound dressing hence improving skin or mucosal integrity. Bovine membrane has been known to be used for many specialties such as ocular surgery, neurosurgery, maxillofacial and orthopedic surgery. This chapter includes such studies and shows the usage possibility of bovine amniotic membrane for other complex defect as shown in urethral reconstruction.

(Co, Nb) co-doped rutile TiO2 (CoNTO) nanoparticles with low dopant concentrations were prepared using a wet chemistry method. A pure rutile TiO2 phase with a dense microstructure and homogeneous dispersion of the dopants was obtained. By co-doping rutile TiO2 with 0.5 at.% (Co, Nb), a very high dielectric permittivity of ε′ » 36,105 and a low loss tangent of tanδ » 0.04 were achieved. The sample–electrode contact and resistive outer-surface layer (surface barrier layer capacitor) have a significant impact on the dielectric response in the CoNTO ceramics. The density functional theory calculation shows that the 2Co atoms are located near the oxygen vacancy, creating a triangle-shaped 2CoVoTi complex defect. On the other hand, the substitution of TiO2 with Nb atoms can form a diamond-shaped 2Nb2Ti complex defect. These two types of complex defects are far away from each other. Therefore, the electron-pinned defect dipoles cannot be considered the primary origins of the dielectric response in the CoNTO ceramics. Impedance spectroscopy shows that the CoNTO ceramics are electrically heterogeneous, comprised of insulating and semiconducting regions. Thus, the dielectric properties of the CoNTO ceramics are attributed to the interfacial polarization at the internal insulating layers with very high resistivity, giving rise to a low loss tangent.

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia (AH) was first described by Wells and Whimster in 1969 as a benign vasoproliferative pathology with a varied infiltrate of eosinophils, lymphocytes, and plasmatic cells. Clinical presentation has been described in the literature as small red-bluish nodules, less than 3 cm in diameter that can bleed in 25% of the cases and be pruritic and painful in 37% and 20% of the cases, respectively. Particularly, AH can appear in the ear; nevertheless, other regions have been affected, including the scalp, lips, tongue, orbit, muscle, and bone. Most of these cases have occurred in adults with an unknown etiology; however, an inflammatory process has been associated in approximately 20% with eosinophilia. No malignancy has been reported.

Introduction: Reconstruction of columella defects is still regarded a challenging procedure, due to very specific anatomy of columella and limited local and regional flap options. Furthermore, a texture and color of columella tissue pose difficulties in choosing right method of reconstruction. Case report: Authors present a patient who underwent reconstruction of complex columella defect using Schmid-Meyer flap. Schmid-Meyer flap represents a tubular flap with an internal supraciliary pedicle which allows the transposition of the temporal skin with the addition of ear cartilage on the tip of the nose or the ala nasi. The integration of the flap was complete. During five-year follow-up period, the cosmetic and functional results were satisfying. Conclusion. Schmid-Meyer flap may be one of the best options for reconstruction of complex defect of columella.
