The interferometric acquisition of the transmission matrix (TM) of a multimode optical fibre (MMF), which is at the heart of multimode fibre-based endoscopic imaging methods, requires using a reference beam. Attempts to use an internal reference, that is to provide the reference in a common pathway geometry through the MMF itself, lead to a speckled reference intensity and consequential occurrence of “blind spots”—locations where insufficient optical power in the reference wave inflicts strong measurement errors. Here we show that combining a relatively small number of TMs, which are measured using different internal references, facilitates a complete elimination of blind spots, and thereby a significant enhancement of the imaging quality.

Iterative segmentation is a unique way to prune the segmentation maps initialized by faster inference techniques or even unsupervised traditional thresholding methods. We used our previous feedback attention-based method for this work and demonstrate that with optimal iterative procedure our method can reach competitive accuracies in endoscopic imaging. For this work, we have applied this segmentation strategy for polyps and instruments.

Clinical relevance. Duodenal MALT-lymphoma, a rare disease of the duodenum with a blurred clinical picture, frequently is an incidental finding at esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Therefore, the authors presented a clinical observation of a 59-yearold patient, whose diagnosis was established on the basis of endoscopic imaging, morphological and immunohistochemical investigations of biopsy material. The purpose of the study was to demonstrate clinical observation of MALT-lymphoma of duodenumMaterials and methods: The case history of a 59-year-old patient diagnosed with duodenal MALT-lymphoma is presented.

Purpose The aims of this study were to describe the laryngeal endoscopic imaging techniques of videoendoscopy and videostroboscopy and to provide information regarding their use and limitations in clinical practice. Method Information is provided for (a) understanding that laryngeal endoscopic imaging consists of endoscopy and stroboscopy components and for understanding their distinctions, (b) specifying the scientific underpinnings of stroboscopic sampling and its limitations, and (c) describing selected endoscopy and stroboscopy parameters including rating instructions and clinical significance. Conclusions Laryngeal endoscopic imaging is a critical part of clinical voice evaluation. Successful use of laryngeal endoscopic imaging requires proper acquisition of images, knowledge of rating strategies and clinical interpretation, and recognizing its limitations.
