As the number of racially diverse students on university campuses in Canada increases, so too do questions about whether and how postsecondary institutions are equipped to create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive learning community for a racially diverse student body. This research explored how a residence life management (RLM) team could build capacity to meaningfully engage with the subjects of race and privilege in an effort to contribute to the university’s purpose of advancing a just society. Guided by collaborative developmental action inquiry and participatory action research, this project engaged members of the RLM team to consider how they are currently navigating the subject of race and privilege and to identify support required to better facilitate learning on the subject of race and privilege. It also provided the RLM team an opportunity to transform a tangible leadership challenge into an organizational learning opportunity. Study participants indicated that engagement with the subject of race and privilege is currently limited and suggested that capacity building could be enhanced in two key ways: first, through an explicit organization-wide commitment that informs hiring and employee performance management metrics, and second, through intentionally designed spaces for learning and action through dialogue. This study identifies practical strategies to engage with the subjects on race and privilege and contributes to current literature on race and privilege by identifying both barriers and factors that enable engagement with the complex and necessary dialogue about race and privilege in a Canadian university context.

Psychiatry of the 21st century is also characterized by ramication into various specialized branches. Revolutions in the areas of psychopharmacology, psychotherapies and social therapies have become a routine in the eld of psychiatry. Mindfulness is one concept spanning across the bio-psycho-social realms which continues to be a topic of current interest both for the professionals as well as the lay public since more than 5 decades. Two of the most common among them are Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, a stress management model by Jon Kabat Zinn and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy , a mindfulness based model devised to prevent the relapse of depression6, by John Teasdale, Mark Williams and Zindel Segal. Several countries in the world have their own MBIs like Mindfulness Integrated Cognitive Behaviour therapy by Bruno Cayoun8. India also has its own share of MBIs in the form of Mindful Life Management 9 and Mindfulness Unied Cognitive Behaviour Therapy 10 developed by the author, though research evidences are only getting accumulated. MBIs aim to enhance greater attention to and awareness of present moment experience12. MBIs have been found to be of use in realms of health, cognitive, affective and interpersonal relationships. Various other factors related to MBIs like psychological and neurobiological mechanisms and potential risks also have been studied by several authors. Neurobiological effects of MBIs have been reported as functional and structural alterations in grey and white matter, especially in areas related to attention and memory, interoception and sensory processing, or self- and auto-regulation of stress and emotions. Amidst all these researches happening in different parts of the world, India didn't have any structured MBIs of its own till the end of the rst decade of 21st century, until the development of Mindful Life Management and Mindfulness Unied Cognitive Behavior Therapy by the author. This article covers the work being done by mindfulness researchers during the rst two decades of the 21st century

Purpose The incidence and severity of diabetes is particularly high in the French overseas territories (FOT). The RECIF study evaluated real life management of diabetic macular oedema (DME) treated by aflibercept in FOT. Methods A prospective, noncomparative, multicentric, non-interventional, study that evaluated functional and anatomical results of patients treated by aflibercept. Twelve retina specialists working in French Polynesia, La Reunion, Guadeloupe and Martinique participated in the study. Results 67 eyes of 57 patients were followed for 12 months. Average VA gain was 7.8 ETDRS letters. 29.9% of eyes gained at least 15 letters, 6% lost 15 letters or more. 67.2% of eyes achieved visual acuity of 70 letters or better. Average central retinal thickness decrease was 115.3 µm. The mean number of injections during the 1st year of treatment was 4.9. 69% of eyes had a loading dose of at least three-monthly injections. 3 eyes were switched to steroid injections during the follow-up for lack of efficacy. Conclusion This study confirmed the efficacy of intravitreal treatment of DME by aflibercept, in the French overseas territories. This evaluation of real-life management of DME underlines the importance of improvement of patient education and collaboration with referring physicians.
