Polyamines have been used as active materials to capture carbon dioxide gas based on its well-known reaction with amines to form carbamates. This work investigates the reactions between three amino-terminated poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers (G1, G3 and G5) and CO2(g) in aqueous (D2O) and methanolic (CD3OD) solutions. The reactions were monitored using 1H NMR spectroscopy, and yielded dendrimers with a combination of terminal carbamate and terminal ammonium groups. In aqueous media the reaction was complicated by the generation of soluble carbonate and bicarbonate ions. The reaction was cleaner in CD3OD, where the larger G5 dendrimer solution formed a gel upon exposure to CO2(g). All reactions were reversible, and the trapped CO2 could be released by treatment with N2(g) and mild heating. These results highlight the importance of the polyamine dendrimer size in terms of driving changes to the solution’s physical properties (viscosity, gel formation) generated by exposure to CO2(g).

Laparoscopic surgery results in physiologic changes that encompass multiple organ systems, with respiratory, cardiovascular and neurologic and splanchnic effects. Insufflation of the peritoneum results in reduced lung volumes, atelectasis, and endobronchial migration of the endotracheal tube. Pneumoperitoneum can result in changes to venous return, cardiac output and blood pressure. Hypercapnia due to carbon dioxide gas used in insufflation can reduce cerebral perfusion pressure. Complications during laparoscopic surgery often occur during port placement and creation of the pneumoperitoneum. Problems include injury to blood vessels during trocar entry, vascular injury in the pneumoperitoneum with limited surgical access, severe bradycardia and arrhythmias due to vagal stimulation from peritoneal stretching, subcutaneous emphysema, pneumothorax, gas embolism, and complications associated with steep Trendelenburg positioning. A thorough understanding of the physiologic changes associated with laparoscopic procedures and recognition of potential complications will facilitate in optimal patient care.  This review contains 4 figures, 1 table and 52 references Keywords: Laparoscopy; laparoscopic surgery; carbon dioxide; pneumoperitoneum; capnothorax; general anesthesia; subcutaneous emphysema; insufflation

Natural or local yeasts are microorganisms from natural ingredients obtained from fermentation without the need for artificial additives. The objectives of the present study were 1.) to evaluate the physical quality of potato doughnuts produced from the local yeast derived from residue of red fermented palm sap, 2) to obtain the best treatment from the use of local yeast in making doughnuts. In the fermentation process, yeast converts sugar and carbohydrates in the dough into carbon dioxide gas (CO2) and alcohol. Doughnuts are made from wheat flour, but the addition of potato paste can improve the texture so that it is softer and tender due to the interaction between gelatinized starch and gluten but can reduce its swelling power.             The experiment was designed using a completely randomized design (CRD) with three treatments and five replications to produce 15 experimental units. The treatments were a) Control (commercial yeast); b) Wheat flour: potato paste: local yeast; 2:1:1; c) Wheat flour: potato paste: local yeast; 2:1:2 and d) Wheat flour: potato paste: local yeast; 2:1:3. The results showed that the best treatment formula was obtained in the treatment B (wheat flour: potato paste: local yeast; 2:1:1) with 20,6% moisture content,  2,09% protein content and 3,644 color value (very like), 3,800 taste value (very like) and texture/tenderness with a value of 1032,500.

ABSTRAKPeran Respirator Dalam Pencegahan Dampak Kesehatan Akibat Polusi Udara Di Desa Klari, Kecamatan Klari, Kabupaten Karawang. ABSTRACTThe Role of Respirators in Preventing Health Impacts Due to Air Pollution in Klari Village, Klari District, Karawang Regency. This activity is in the background of Klari Village which requires attention to the role of respirators due to the impact of air pollution. In addition, it is hoped that this Real Work Lecture (KKN) activity can help the community in increasing public awareness of the importance of the impact of air pollution on health in Klari Village, Klari District. This is done by asking and distributing questionnaires to the Klari Village community with the role of respirators for health impacts due to air pollution. With the level of public awareness that is still minimal on the importance of the role of respirators on health due to air pollution. This is based on the condition of air pollution in Klari Village which is not very good due to pollution from many motorized vehicles, factory smoke, and indiscriminate burning activities. With the KKN activities in Klari Village, it is expected not only to increase the role of respirators for the Klari community but are also encouraged to overcome air pollution by planting trees that contain carbon dioxide gas absorption (CO2) and making trash cans to reduce the level of waste volume in the Klari Village environment. . Keywords: respirators; pollution; carbon dioxide (CO2); klari village; volume

Abstract Research on mid-IR silicon-based waveguides has recently received strong interest. Particularly, this paper focuses on one of the critical issues in micron-scale photonic integrated circuits, which is to efficiently couple a mid-IR LED (light emitting diode) light source to an external micron-scale waveguide. The optical coupling scheme is crucial for the exploitation of LED light sources in waveguide-based spectroscopic sensing applications. This paper reports optical coupling scheme between an LED mid-IR light source and a silicon rich silicon nitride (SiN) waveguide that could enable the use of LED-based light sources. Finally, the detection limit of the investigated device for carbon dioxide gas detection is calculated.

Abstract The purpose of current work is to study the effect of carbon dioxide on the shrinkage of smoked fish and to develop a technical solution for the implementation of technology with the use of CO2 in fish trade. We use mackerel, flounder and crucian carp as test samples. The studies were carried out in two versions: storage of fish in a chamber under traditional conditions and with the addition of carbon dioxide (CO2) to the refrigerating chamber. The use of carbon dioxide gas during the storage of smoked fish leads to an increase in the water-holding capacity of the fish in comparison with the traditional storage method. In our proposed method of storage in a cold atmosphere with CO2, fish shrinkage is reduced. The carbonate ions well bind water molecules in the hydration shell due to positive hydration, which slows down the processes of hydrolysis and oxidation of lipids inside the subcutaneous layer and preserves the moisture-retaining capacity of tissues. Thus, the use of carbon dioxide in the storage of smoked fish reduces weight loss and does not affect the appearance of the fish.
