Aim: To explore the knowledge and attitudes of newly graduated registered nurses, who have undergone standardized training in the intensive care unit, about the early mobilization of mechanically ventilated patients and identify perceived barriers to the application of early mobilization.Background: Early mobilization of mechanically ventilated patients has been gradually gaining attention, and its safety and effectiveness have also been verified. Nurses in intensive care units are the implementers of early mobilization, and the quality of their care is closely related to patient prognosis. However, the knowledge and attitude of newly graduated registered nurses undergoing standardized training, in intensive care units, on the early mobilization of mechanically ventilated patients and the obstacles they face in clinical implementation are still unclear.Methods: This qualitative study utilized the phenomenological method to explore the experiences of 15 newly graduated registered nurses undergoing standardized training in intensive care units in a 3rd hospital in Shanghai, China. Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted in June 2020. The Colaizzi seven-step framework was used for data analysis.Findings: A total of 15 new nurses comprised the final sample after data saturation. Three main themes emerged from the analysis and seven subthemes: perceived importance, low implementation rate, and perceived barriers.Conclusions: Newly graduated registered nurses undergoing standardized training in intensive care units have a high level of awareness of the importance of early mobilization of mechanically ventilated patients and are willing to implement it. However, there is a lack of relevant knowledge and other obstacles that restrict clinical implementation. Early mobilization should be included in the standardized training of new nurses in intensive care units.

Preparing nurses for practice and ensuring nursing informatics is included in their curricula is a challenge for many nurse educators. This study asked nurse educators from around New Zealand (n=40) what they perceived as the concerns, barriers and facilitators to implementing nursing informatics within their curricula. Among the findings a key issue is the constantly evolving nature of information and communication technology in healthcare and nursing which results in the ongoing need for professional development to keep up-to-date. Outcomes from this study are recommendations which will inform our next steps in this project to support nurse educators provide the best education possible for new nurses.

The nursing profession is heavily saturated with long hours and night shifts. Oftentimes new nurses spend months to years working on the night shift which influences biological processes such as the circadian rhythm. Their eating habits, digestion, sleep, and metabolism are all affected. Using the platform Google Forms, night shift nurses from the past and those currently working the night shift were questioned on their night shift experience, focusing on their diet and dietary habits. After the data collection was analyzed in Google Sheets, I drew conclusions and found trends among the participants. There were forty participants due to method limitations, but the participants showed many negative implications of being a night worker. In order to evaluate multiple perspectives from the participants, there were two groups of participants. The first consisted of nurses currently working the night shift, and the second group had nurses that have worked the night shift in the past but no longer do. Current night shift nurses were negatively impacted the most, but to my surprise, there were still dietary implications for those who do not work the night shift currently. For the most part, both groups of participants’ diets and overall health had declined; something needs to be done to help those helping us.

Abstract Background The New Nurses who lack the ability to recognize and manage anaphylactic shock can endanger the patients. In this study, we explored the effect of a simulated scenario designed to improve nurses’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities during the rescue of a patient with anaphylactic shock. Methods The program of a simulation-based training was designed to teach learners to recognize the signs and symptoms of anaphylactic shock, place the patient in the correct position, stop ongoing intravenous infusion of the antibiotic which trigger the anaphylactic shock, restart an intravenous infusion on a new infusion apparatus, give 100% oxygen via a nasal cannula or mask, preserve airway patency, call the rapid response team (RRT), and correctly administer the medications prescribed by the clinician. Instructors evaluated each learner’s skills and behaviors by using a clinical competency questionnaire. All learners then completed the Chinese version of the Simulation Design Scale (SDS) and participated in semi-structured interviews with their instructors after the training. Results All learners showed significant improvements in the 6 competencies assessed by the clinical competency questionnaire after the simulation-based training (all P<0.001). Scores on the SDS revealed that the learners were highly satisfied with all aspects of the simulation-based training (the 20 satisfaction rates were all above 90.00%). During the semi-structured interviews, new graduated nurses reported that simulation-based training in the management of anaphylactic shock was extremely important and would guide them in clinical practice. Conclusions The simulation-based training in anaphylactic shock is a potentially viable and effective method to teach new registered nurses to manage clinical incidents.

Abstract We exploit changes in U.S. visa policies for nurses to measure the origin-country human capital response to international migration opportunities. Combining data on all migrant departures and postsecondary institutions in the Philippines, we show that nursing enrollment and graduation increased substantially in response to greater U.S. demand for nurses. The supply of nursing programs expanded. Nurse quality, measured by licensure exam pass rates, declined. Despite this, for each nurse migrant, 9 additional nurses were licensed. New nurses switched from other degree types, but graduated at higher rates than they would have otherwise, increasing the human capital stock in the Philippines.

KATA KUNCI KEYWORDS ABSTRAK COVID 19, perawat, stress kerja Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologi dan bertujuan untuk memahami pengalaman perawat di ruang intensif yang rentan mengalami distres psikologis dan bagaimana mereka memaknai pengalamannya. Masih sedikit penelitian yang mencoba untuk menggali lebih dalam mengenai kondisi psikologis perawat dilihat dari sisi subjektif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara mendalam terhadap tiga orang perawat yang sedang atau pernah bekerja di ruang intensif. Satu perawat ditugaskan Ruang Isolasi COVID 19 yang pernah bertugas di ruang intensif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan beberapa tema yang sama antar partisipan terkait dengan pengalaman mereka di ruang intensif dan ruang isolasi COVID 19 seperti adanya rasa cemas, pekerjaan yang melelahkan. Tema yang muncul sebagian besar mengandung emosi negatif dan distres psikologis yang dialami selama bertugas dalam konteks yang beragam antar partisipan. Terlepas dari emosi negatif, partisipan masih terdapat sikap positif yang menjadi motivasi mereka untuk tetap mengabdi. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan secara spesifik tantangan unik yang dialami oleh partisipan dan dampaknya terhadap kesehatan mental mereka yang tidak dapat dijelaskan melalui penelitian kuantitatif. ABSTRACT This study uses a phenomenological approach and aims to perceive nurses' experiences in the intensive room which has vulnerable to have psychological distress and how they interpret their experiences. There are limited studies that reveal about psychological distress from nurse’s subjective view. Data is collected through a depth of interviews with three new nurses, who are on duty in intensive care room and a nurse in the COVID 19 Isolation Room, who has also served in the ICU. The result of this study shows some similar themes about their experiences in intensive care and COVID 19 isolation room such as anxiety and exhausting job. Majority of theme contain negative emotion and psychological distress while on duty in special context among participants. Regardless negative emotion dominated, positive attitude that encourage instrinsic motivation to serve patiens live. The study revealed specific challenge and experience among participants and how affect their mental health which not revealed from quantitative study.
