The purpose of this review is to explore factors affecting brand building in libraries. Based on the nine steps of the National Health Service (NHS) center for reviews and dissemination, articles on the subject of library branding were searched in nine Iranian databases and seven international databases. The search period includes all date range of databases until 7–22 January 2021. The results were assessed for quality and 44 English articles and 3 Persian articles were selected for further analysis. Factors in promoting libraries brand building fall five categories. They include library architecture, library information resources and services, librarians’ personal branding, marketing, and library management. Inhibiting factors in libraries brand building have two final categories including internal and external inhibiting factors to brand building. Internal inhibitors covered branding costs, lead-time for branding, effort for branding and its management, the difficulty of strategic brand planning, and library staff unpreparedness. External inhibitors covered the difficulties of branding in the digital age and the economic situation of the country. If libraries manage their brand and move toward rebranding in line with the new information environment, they will be able to survive in today’s competitive world and build their true value in relationship with users.

Aim: The paper examined the university library in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the preconditions for achieving and sustaining the same in Nigeria. 4IR is characterized by a level of automation, deployment of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, internet connectivity and accessibility to the global information network, subscription to reputable online databases, quality and comprehensive collection in diverse formats, preponderance of digital natives among patrons, increased demand for seamless access to online resources and virtual operations, new library spaces (learning commons, research commons and makerspace), open scholarly communication, research data management, social mediation applications, digital curation and preservation. The challenges militating against effective crystallization of 4IR university libraries include: financial constraints, inadequate infrastructure, resistance to change, inadequate skills and competencies, security and intrusion issues, lack of exposure to international standards. Conclusions: The paper recommended the following as requisite panacea: leadership, demonstrating and justifying returns on investment, benchmarking practices, anti-intrusion and back-up systems, adequate power supply and bandwidth, endowment and corporate social responsibility, indigenous library management software, and capacity building initiatives.

Aim: Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) brought significant innovation and improvement to library services and methods of meeting user needs.  Assessment of user satisfaction with the various library services is an important variable toward inclusive library management and marketing of library services in the 21st century. With the application of ICTs bringing about different resources and various accessibility modes (print and online), it became necessary to investigate user satisfaction with various available library resources and services. Methods: The study addressed user satisfaction using adapted customer satisfaction scores (CSAT) metric with Rodski Survey to elicit information from 560 respondents that visited the library within the space of one week.  The questionnaire was given to the respondents during their library visit twice daily for one week and the process excluded those that have filled the questionnaire before. Results: The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics.  The findings revealed the level of user satisfaction to be average. It was also discovered that the resources in the library did not meet their information needs as the majority responded that the resources are inadequate and the overall assessment of their interaction with librarians is excellent despite the inadequate resources. Conclusion: Based on the findings, recommendations were made to create a holistic marketing strategy to improve usability of the library, to acquire more resources and funding to meet user expectations, and to address the need for adequate management of library resources.
