This study measured the level of awareness, understanding, acceptability, clarity and consistency by the Benquet State University’s personnel of the University, College and Department’s vision, goals, mission and objectives (VGMO). The study also determined the manner by which the VGMOs were disseminated. The results of the study showed that brochures are the most frequent manner of disseminated materials that display the University’s VGMOs, leading to higher levels of awareness of them. The level of awareness, understanding, acceptability, and consistency of the University’s VGMOs, the College’s goals and objectives and the Department’s program objectives were analog for both male and female personnel, but the clarity levels differed significantly. Faculty members, compared to non-faculty members, have higher levels of awareness, understanding, acceptability, clarity and consistency in their recognition of BSU’s VGMOs. Keywords: university vision, mission, goals, objectives, awareness, personnel

With the increasing prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) globally, including in Nigeria, self-care practices are universally recognized as imperative to keeping the illness under control and preventing complications. It is important to determine how competent patients feel about managing their diabetes; as well as their psychosocial adjustment. Self-efficacy measures these important aspects of diabetes care and act as a guide to health professionals on how best to tailor diabetes education and support. There is a dearth of studies on self-efficacy and associated influences, among people living with diabetes in Nigeria. Hence, this study was carried out to fill the lacunae. This descriptive study was carried out at the Out-patient Clinic of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, among 235 people receiving treatment for diabetes. A total sampling of all available patients who provided consent at the time of data collection was done. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire consisting of a section on sociodemographic and clinical characteristics including fasting blood glucose; followed by a section on diabetes self-efficacy. Diabetes self-efficacy was measured using the validated and adapted Michigan Diabetes Empowerment scale (DES). Ethical approval was obtained from the University of Ibadan/University College Hospital Institutional Review Board (UI/UCH IRB). Data were entered into the Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 20. Data were analysed using frequencies, percentages, mean, independent t-test and Pearson’s correlation at α 0.05. Participants were predominantly women (60.9%) and had a mean age of 59.3 ± 14.0 years. More than half of the participants (55%) had a high self-efficacy level. Educational level and having a family member who is a nurse or a doctor were significantly associated with high self-efficacy. Fasting blood glucose level was negatively correlated with self-efficacy and the domain of managing the psychological aspect of diabetes. A good percentage of people living with diabetes had high self-efficacy, which was influenced by educational level and having a health professional as a relative. Those with high self-efficacy had better glucose control. It is recommended that individually-tailored diabetes education be provided for people with poorly controlled glucose level.

This thesis does not seek to trace the full history of Adult Education in the Victoria University College District. Although such a history would be of value to those concerned with Adult Education, its size would be beyond the scope of this thesis. It will seek to show the broader influences of the 1938 and 1947 Adult Education Acts, as they have affected the development of Adult Education within the Victoria University College District. This will involve a discussion of many historical themes, but it will concentrate largely on the organisational and administrative aspects which have sought to give to Adult Education an identity of its own, whilst setting it in the pattern of life-long education linked with school, home, office, farm and factory.

The Depression began in the late 1920s, but was not simply triggered by the October 1929 crash in Wall Street. In the two years between 1928-29 and 1930-31, "export income nearly halved. ... The government ... slashed expenditure," including severe cuts to public spending in health and education. As Ann Calhoun notes:[t]he effect of the 1930s Depression on [Schools of Art] students and instructors alike was massive: salaries were reduced, the school admission age was raised, overscale salaries were limited, grants for sewing and science were withdrawn, administration grants were cut back, training colleges in Wellington and Dunedin closed and student allowances decreased, and grants to kindergartens were withdrawn.A proposal for a town-planning course by John Mawson (the Director of Town Planning)) and Cyril Knight (Head of Architecture, Auckland University College) likewise failed due to "lack of numbers and Depression cutbacks." Helen Leach also notes the impact of cuts to education more generally, writing that: "[m]others of young children who expected them to start school at four or five learned in May 1932 that the age of entry would be raised to six."

Jelen tanulmány a nemzetközi tudományos versenyképességet méri a rendészettudományi profillal rendelkező intézmények körében. A nemzetközi tudományos szemléletváltásba jól illeszkedik az egyre kiéleződő verseny, mind a kutatók egyéni, mind az intézmények és országok szintjén. A nemzetközi tudományos szemléletváltás legjelentősebb folyamata a tudományos munka „piacosodása”, melynek keretében a szerzők megélhetésüket kötik a kutatómunkához. A folyamat jelentős eleme a nemzetközi rangsorok, különösen a jelen tanulmányunk vizsgálati kereteit adó nemzetközi egyetemi rangsorok felértékelődése a tudományos teljesítmény mérhetővé válásával. A vizsgálatba hat intézményt vontunk be: Central Police University, College of Policing, Israel Police, National Research Institute of Police Science, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Shandong Police College. A publikációs aktivitást tekintve megállapíthatók a bevont szerzők körében legnépszerűbb tématerületek is, melyet a „Gyilkosság; Sorozatgyilkos; Gyilkosok” tématerület vezet. A társszerzői hálózat elemzésekor egy igen aktív és erőteljes tudományos együttműködés rajzolódik ki a vizsgált intézmények szerzői körében. Az ehhez a társszerzői hálózathoz való csatlakozás a hazai, főleg Nemzeti Közszolgálati Egyetem központú rendészettudományi kutatók számára prioritás a nemzetközi versenyképesség eléréséhez.
