Anatomical and imaging evidence suggests neural control of oblique and horizontal compartments of the genioglossus differs. However, neurophysiological evidence for differential control remains elusive. This study aimed to determine whether there are differences in neural drive to the oblique and horizontal regions of the genioglossus during swallowing and tongue protrusion. Adult participants (N=63; 48M) were recruited from a sleep clinic; 41 had Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA: 34M, 8F). Electromyographic (EMG) was recorded at rest (awake, supine) using 4 intramuscular fine-wire electrodes inserted percutaneously into the anterior oblique, posterior oblique, anterior horizontal and posterior horizontal genioglossus. Epiglottic pressure and nasal airflow were also measured. During swallowing, two distinct EMG patterns were observed- a monophasic response (single EMG peak) and a biphasic response (two bursts of EMG). Peak EMG and timing of the peak relative to epiglottic pressure were significantly different between patterns (linear mixed models, p<0.001). Monophasic activation was more likely in the horizontal than oblique region during swallowing (OR=6.83, CI=3.46-13.53, p<0.001). In contrast, during tongue protrusion, activation patterns and EMG magnitude were not different between regions. There were no systematic differences in EMG patterns during swallowing or tongue protrusion between OSA and non-OSA groups. These findings provide evidence for functional differences in the motoneuronal output to the oblique and horizontal compartments, enabling differential task-specific drive. Given this, it is important to identify the compartment from which EMG is acquired. We propose that the EMG patterns during swallowing may be used to identify the compartment where a recording electrode is located.

Mobile machine hydraulic circuits tend to adopt electrohydraulics. Such hydraulic circuits are based on controlled pumps, modulated hydraulics, sensors and controllers. This allows adapting the hydraulic circuit operating modes to the changes of external conditions of the machine operation. Application of hydraulic circuits with electrohydraulics in mobile machines allows to use mobile machines efficiently with a high number of removable endangers, increases their performance and improves the quality of performed works. The authors propose an adaptive hydraulic circuit for a mobile machine. The operation process in the adaptive hydraulic circuit in static and dynamic modes is determined by the interaction of the pump controller and pressure differential control valves. The hydraulic system operation stability, its fast response and readjustment are determined by the controller parameters. It has been revealed that the main parameters affecting the dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic system are: throttle area and coefficient of amplifying the pump controller orifice, dampener area and coefficient of amplifying the pressure differential control valve orifice. These parameters affect the stability, controlling and readjustment time in the hydraulic circuit differently. A functional including the values of controlling time , σ controlling and losses in the pump controller was used as an optimization criterion. The optimization has been made according to the developed mathematical model applying the method developed by I. Sobol and R. Statnikov. During the optimization each controller parameter changed on 3 levels. 81 tests were made and the best combination of controller parameters for the optimization criterion was determined. The following hydraulic circuit operation values were reached under the optimal values of parameters = 1.0·10-6 m2, = 1.0·10-3 m, = 1.2·10-6 m2, = 10·10-3 m: = 1.1 с, σ = 32 %, = 0.82 kW that comply with the requirements towards hydraulic circuits of mobile machines.

Purpose This paper aims to present a control method to realize the constant force grinding of automobile wheel hub. Design/methodology/approach A constant force control strategy combined by extended state observer (ESO) and backstepping control is proposed. ESO is used to estimate the total disturbance to improve the anti-interference and stability of the system and Backstepping control is used to improve the response speed of the system. Findings The simulation and grinding experimental results show that, compared with the proportional integral differential control and active disturbance rejection control, the designed controller can improve the dynamic response performance and anti-interference ability of the system and can quickly track the expected force and improve the grinding quality of the hub surface. Originality/value The main contribution of this paper lies in the proposed of a new constant force control strategy, which significantly improved the stability and precision of grinding force.

By analyzing the shortcomings of the traditional fuzzy PID(Abbreviation for Proportional, Integral and Differential) control system (FPID), a multiple fuzzy PID suspension control system based on road recognition (MFRR) is proposed. Compared with the traditional fuzzy PID control system, the multiple fuzzy control system can identify the road grade and take changes in road conditions into account. Based on changes in road conditions and the variable universe and secondary adjustment of the control parameters of the PID controller were carried out, which makes up for the disadvantage of having too many single input parameters in the traditional fuzzy PID control system. A two degree of freedom 1/4 vehicle model was established. Based on the suspension dynamic parameters, a road elevation algorithm was designed. Road grade recognition was carried out based on a BP neural network algorithm. The experimental results showed that the sprung mass acceleration (SMA) of the MFRR was much smaller than that of the passive suspension system (PS) and the FPID on single-bump and sinusoidal roads. The SMA, suspension dynamic deflection (SDD) and tire dynamic load (TDL) of the MFRR were significantly less than those of the other two systems on roads of each grade. Taking grade B road as an example, compared with the PS, the reductions in the SMA, SDD and TDL of the MFRR were 40.01%, 34.28% and 32.64%, respectively. The control system showed a good control performance.

Metabolic homeostasis in animals depends critically on evolved mechanisms by which red blood cell (RBC) hemoglobin (Hb) senses oxygen (O2) need and responds accordingly. The entwined regulation of ATP production and antioxidant systems within the RBC also exploits Hb-based O2-sensitivity to respond to various physiologic and pathophysiologic stresses. O2 offloading, for example, promotes glycolysis in order to generate both 2,3-DPG (a negative allosteric effector of Hb O2 binding) and ATP. Alternatively, generation of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) critical for reducing systems is favored under the oxidizing conditions of O2 abundance. Dynamic control of ATP not only ensures the functional activity of ion pumps and cellular flexibility, but also contributes to the availability of vasoregulatory ATP that can be exported when necessary, for example in hypoxia or upon RBC deformation in microvessels. RBC ATP export in response to hypoxia or deformation dilates blood vessels in order to promote efficient O2 delivery. The ability of RBCs to adapt to the metabolic environment via differential control of these metabolites is impaired in the face of enzymopathies [pyruvate kinase deficiency; glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency], blood banking, diabetes mellitus, COVID-19 or sepsis, and sickle cell disease. The emerging availability of therapies capable of augmenting RBC ATP, including newly established uses of allosteric effectors and metabolite-specific additive solutions for RBC transfusates, raises the prospect of clinical interventions to optimize or correct RBC function via these metabolite delivery mechanisms.

Abstract The control strategy of driving system for the distributed electric drive DRe20 car of Tongji University DIAN Racing team is developed and optimized according to the competition rules of Formula Student Electric China (FSEC). The VI-grade and Matlab Simulink cosimulation experimental platform is established to study the effects of different dynamic control strategies, such as equal distribution, open-loop electronic differential and limited slip differential, on the performance of the DRe20 racing car. The simulation platform is also used to optimize the control algorithm and the setting of different parameters in the program, then the results of simulation analysis and optimization are applied to the actual car experiment, providing a lot of reference data for the adjustment of suspension system and electronic control system of the DRe20 car. The simulation and actual test results show that the limited slip differential control strategy we developed and optimized in 2020 can give full play to the design performance of the DRe20 car, and the comprehensive performances have been improved compared with those in previous years. The optimized dynamics control strategy has been applied to Tongji DIAN Racing car during the 2020 Formula Student Electric China competition, in which Tongji DIAN Racing Team wins the championship.

AbstractImpairment of inferior olivary neurons (IONs) affects whole-body movements and results in abnormal gait and posture. Because IONs are activated by unpredicted motion rather than regular body movements, the postural dysfunction caused by ION lesions is expected to involve factors other than simple loss of feedback control. In this study, we measured the postural movements of rats with pharmacological ION lesions (IO rats) trained to stand on their hindlimbs. The coordination of body segments as well as the distribution and frequency characteristics of center of mass (COM) motion were analyzed. We determined that the lesion altered the peak properties of the power spectrum density of the COM, whereas changes in coordination and COM distribution were minor. To investigate how the observed properties reflected changes in the control system, we constructed a mathematical model of the standing rats and quantitatively identified the control system. We found an increase in linear proportional control and a decrease in differential and nonlinear control in IO rats compared with intact rats. The dystonia-like changes in body stiffness explain the nature of the linear proportional and differential control, and a disorder in the internal model is one possible cause of the decrease in nonlinear control.

Dynamic modulation of endothelial cell-to-cell and cell–to–extracellular matrix (ECM) adhesion is essential for blood vessel patterning and functioning. Yet the molecular mechanisms involved in this process have not been completely deciphered. We identify the adhesion G protein–coupled receptor (ADGR) Latrophilin 2 (LPHN2) as a novel determinant of endothelial cell (EC) adhesion and barrier function. In cultured ECs, endogenous LPHN2 localizes at ECM contacts, signals through cAMP/Rap1, and inhibits focal adhesion (FA) formation and nuclear localization of YAP/TAZ transcriptional regulators, while promoting tight junction (TJ) assembly. ECs also express an endogenous LPHN2 ligand, fibronectin leucine-rich transmembrane 2 (FLRT2), that prevents ECM-elicited EC behaviors in an LPHN2-dependent manner. Vascular ECs of lphn2a knock-out zebrafish embryos become abnormally stretched, display a hyperactive YAP/TAZ pathway, and lack proper intercellular TJs. Consistently, blood vessels are hyperpermeable, and intravascularly injected cancer cells extravasate more easily in lphn2a null animals. Thus, LPHN2 ligands, such as FLRT2, may be therapeutically exploited to interfere with cancer metastatic dissemination.
